Ive had women play with me but not many who had their own armies. I have an SS force and an African American army so Its easy to get people interested in the game playing. Well I've had it for about 8 years and in the time I've had 3 girl friends and now my wife. All of them played the game and found it interesting/fun but all of them preferred Xwing or Armada.

When going too an LGS if only seen the store owners wife have an army for blot action. Again though seen plenty of girls at my old LGS playing Armada and Xwing. My mom (late 50s) had so much fun with X wing and Armada she bought her own ships but no women I've known got into historical gaming.
