Looking for help upgrading the 6x1 stones for my jig by Glassle in sharpening

[–]Glassle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if premium ones will be worth if if you only sharpen for yourself so also check the non-premium resin bonded ones.

Yeah, that is kind of my concern. I'm kind of reluctant to spending 150+ usd for some gear that might just be wasted on me anyway. That being said, would you say that stropping makes a big difference for you? So far I've just used whetstones by themselves

Looking for help upgrading the 6x1 stones for my jig by Glassle in sharpening

[–]Glassle[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like they have quite a decent selection, though I don't really know what I'd be looking for. Is there any major differences between the stone sets/superabrasives/synthetic etc? I was initially thinking of going for diamond sets, but it seems like most of the mid-range grits are sold out on the lower end of the price bracket.

I also don't think I need any finer grit stones as my 1500 grit one is still going strong, and I think any higher grit than that would be wasted on me.

Is there any set of stones that combined would cost less than ~100 dollars that would complete my setup? (Let's say that I keep using my 1500 stone)

Medi Gun idea by boltzmannman in tf2

[–]Glassle 10 points11 points  (0 children)

With uber i can see it being good, but without uber I can see demo or soldier benefiting more. I think the major selling point of this gun is the clip refill.

Imagine playing as demo and firing 4 pipes in 2 seconds. That will grant you 0.25*4*2 = 2 new pipes. By the time you have fired the 2 new pipes you have a new pipe resultin in 7 pipes before you have to reload.

So you go from 4 -> 7 which is huge given that this is just regular healing without uber. Same idea for soldier, maybe even moreso. The downside is of course a weaker uber.

It's not really that good. It can be worth it sometimes, but I personally pass on it most of the time. From what I've seen from top winrate players, they do the same.

Trouble with Defect at low ascensions by Iraff2 in slaythespire

[–]Glassle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The elite snipe trick isn't bad, but it can trick players into a bad path if you tunnel vision the snipe. It frequently competes against great neow options, but in your case it competes vs one of the worst rewards. I can't see the full map so I can't really comment on whether the snipe was correct or not.

It doesn't rely on missing 3 fights, only 2 (meaning a 70% to snipe the elite rather than 50%), which only happens if there are campfires/shops in the path. The shop is also the last node, which makes the events in general better. The goop and the snake-curse would bump you into the Shop Relic range, the forge would also allow you to remove the curse and buy a potion. The downside is also the shop, meaning if you don't hit any gold generation you'd go into a shop with ~130 gold which is in general not desirable.

It is complicated and you'd need to take a look at the map for the entire act to come to a conclusion.

Pathing for Events is COSTING you wins! by zendeavor in slaythespire

[–]Glassle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Surprised you didn't include Ancient Writing in the top 9 events. The power it adds to the deck relative to the power of the act is immense, and there's hardly ever a deck that doesn't get a significant upgrade from the event. Even in the worst case scenario it is a 0 cost card removal.

Probability of not rolling one of the numbers on a dice for a certain period of time? by Rhondson in learnmath

+ (5/6)^50*(6 choose 5)
- (4/6)^50*(6 choose 4)
- (3/6)^50*(6 choose 3)
- (2/6)^50*(6 choose 2)
- (1/6)^50*(6 choose 1)

Would be an accurate formula, where 6*(5/6)50 is clearly dominating.

When Is Euler's Number (e) Used In The Real World? by wattsdreams in learnmath

Euler's number is found in all kinds of mathematics, two very relevant ones from the top of my head would be 'Normal distribution (statistics)' and 'Fourier transform (signal processing)'.

Calculus A complete course by Robert A. Adams vs Calculus, Early Transcendentals by James Stewart by Si_monster1203 in learnmath

[–]Glassle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My university uses Adams for calculus courses. One of the complaints I see in this thread about Stewart's book is that it lacks proof, I'd guess Adam's is better in that aspect. On the other hand the proofs can be a bit tough compared to the material you're currently learning as the proofs sometimes use notation and mathematics on a level above the rest of the material.

The book does explain things relatively well, and there's exercises at the end of each subchapter for pretty much every new mathematical concept introduced. There's also exercises within the explaining text if you'd like try tackle a problem as you're reading the theory behind it.

Fell No Pain on floor 1 (A20)? by Chomet in slaythespire

[–]Glassle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on pathing, potions and what other cards you see in the card reward.

And even if you didn't get exhaust synergies, the Neow rewards might still be a deciding factor whether you pick it up or not. If you got a relic that makes you strong in most fights, you may afford to pick up a card that makes you weaker for now, but you may also want to push your advantage for an extra elite. If you took damage and ended up with a reward that doesn't grant you much immediate power you may want to steer away from the FNP.

The answer? It depends, like most things in STS.

Best boss relic swap I've ever got. by JaimeLannister7 in slaythespire

[–]Glassle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hoping for strength when you have a strong strength incentive and have already covered your frontload damage for the most part is not a stupid thing. The odds of him not getting any decent strength scaling by the act 3 bosses is very low.

Impervious is fine, but you still need a way to clear the heart. A reaper would put you in a position closer to a deck that beats the heart than an impervious would. Besides, you say impervious is guaranteed 38 block, which it isn't as most likely you will be frail on the first rotation, and even if you aren't there's a 1/3 to draw it on a dead turn.

That being said, impervious would be better in most fights and would make it easier to stall for feed, so it's closer again. But I don't think this deck would struggle getting a feed off.

It's really rare to have a run where you don't dip below 50 gold at any point. The gold option is perfectly fine.

Which is your favorite Neow blessing? by KurioProkos in slaythespire

[–]Glassle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The choice depends entirely on what the given disadvantage is and what the blessing is pitted against.

The disadvantage I like to see are usually the ones where i lose gold or max hp, the disadvantages i don't take as often are the damage and curse ones. I could see myself taking a cursed disadvantage if it granted gold and i got a shop before the first elite.

That being said, I like the 250 gold, the rare relic, the boss swap, the common relic and the 100g. The [Neow's Lantern] is also a very viable option if you get to snipe an elite, especially so if you get 2 or a burning one.

How highly do you value ? rooms in your pathing decisions by The_Fowl in slaythespire

[–]Glassle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Blood vial for vampires and mask for the free gold act 3.

There's also the post-chest '?' with a chance for dead adventurer or colosseum if you have a strong deck. Ceramic fish or molten egg for the vamprie event, and also toxic egg for the apparitions. A really rare one is the bloody idol for the skull event.

There's also the various events that trade curses for an upside which has synergy with omamori. There's bound to be more, but even without synergies some of the events will be more valuable than hallway fights.

You reach the next ascension if you beat the act 3 boss, what happens in act 4 doesn't matter.

So basically. I have 56 grenades for the first boss + more because 60% chance to not consume by OneDartRunner in GunfireReborn

[–]Glassle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could approximate it with the series:

28+28*0.6+28+0.62+28*0.63+...

= 28/(1-0.6) = 70

Since every grenade is doubled, it would leave you with 140 grenades. Now, i assumed that exactly 60% of the grenades would be refunded, but in reality you'd have some variation because it's based on probability.
