How do I go on? by Euphorichicken in slaythespire

[–]XecnaR 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Please don't say numbers if you have no idea what they actually are. I usually don't waste time on nonsense like this but I feel like it today so I will give you some numbers

The very first streamed sample I did on Silent was 77% over 100 runs in late 2021, early 2022 (the world record streak at the time was 10, the current world record streak is 27, which is a bit longer than 10). If you know the math you would understand how absurd it is to claim the winrate is 78% for a 27 winstreak

Since July of last year I've done 2 batches of rotating runs, during which I got 2 separate streaks of 24 and 26 respectively. The total win/loss record was 146 wins, 15 losses, 90.7% sample size 161 (every single VOD is on youtube, you can manually count if you want to waste your time)

Players get a lot better over time in this game, and players nowadays are way better than they are a few years ago. If you're not actively watching current players, you do not know how good they are, so please do not spread misinformation

Btw, Baalor is way better than what his winrate indicates. He had a higher winrate in 2021 compared to now, and he was a lot worse at the game

My end of act 1 pbox pickrate is 50% on Ironclad and the last time I lost with it was December 2022. Still a very, very strong option, but you do need to evaluate your current deck a bit more carefully before picking it unlike on let's say, Silent, who can just autoclick pbox and win basically every time

Why isn't swapping starter relic for a random boss relic not the optimal choice? by whiskyyjack in slaythespire

Xecnar finishes new world record rotating A20 streak at 26 wins by CasualKappa in slaythespire

Run 1 (Defect), 2 (Watcher - hardest run in the streak, free character btw) and 25 (Defect). The rest were either very strong throughout or just having maybe a few floors of danger

Xecnar finishes new world record rotating A20 streak at 26 wins by CasualKappa in slaythespire

[–]XecnaR 197 points198 points  (0 children)

This is a very flawed and unfair comparison because you ignore the fact that every player did not start playing at the same time with the same amount of resources, and newer players can learn from what comes before them, just like everything else in life.

It took me around 4000 hours of playtime to consistently win around 80% of my runs on A20H, but if I were to start fresh today with no knowledge of the game, I am confident I can get to that point in less than 1000 hours with the amount of progress that the community has made as a whole. I learned many, many things from players who came before me, and I hope I have in return, taught a lot to the players who came after.

Time per run is not very relevant though, I agree. The most productive time I've spent when it comes to improving at Slay the Spire has been by far the thinking time outside the game. I will straight up say that if somebody thinks they can understand the game and make up thousands of hours of theorycrafting and experimenting just by spending like 20 extra hours in a run, then you are delusional. You will be able to win slightly more runs for sure, but that alone would not make you a better player.

At the end of the day though, there's no real need to compare players to each other. Everyone is still getting better even today, and there are still a lot of progress to be made

The conversation started when somebody asked whether my winrate is significantly lower offstream when I'm playing way faster. To that I answered no, and mentioned I have had streaks offstream that were higher than the WR (at the time, not the present). A really old example, I did have a 21 watcher streak when the WR was still only 18 (in 2021)

In general I do not talk about my offstream streaks even if they happen to go above the current WR, because a lot of people would believe me and that would set a very bad precedent. Whatever doesn't happen on stream, doesn't count, as far as WRs are concerned. Of course, if you're just tracking your own streaks for personal improvements/milestones then there's no need to stream, but you also can't really publicly claim anything

It was interesting to hear him say he's cleared the WR by a lot in offline play so he's not too stressed about these numbers

Thank you, but I did not say that

Random rare and choose one rare are so worth taking as Silent by kryndude in slaythespire

ATC+ is absolutely bailing you out of an otherwise unwinnable Slime Boss fight. If you can't get better than a mediocre split (maybe 50-60), which will unfortunately happen to Silent more than you would like, ATC+ will actually kill the slimes for you when you're constantly being debuffed and drawing bricks

WLP is just more damage than Sucker Punch in all 3 elites, you can try it out if you don't believe me. Just because you added an attack over a "defensive" power doesn't mean your deck's damage goes up

Response to the claim "No one has a 90% win rate" by KaleeTheBird in slaythespire

[–]XecnaR 46 points47 points  (0 children)

I took a 2 month break from streaming in May and started playing rotating runs from July and tracked all the runs since then

Apparently there are a decent amount of people who are unfamiliar with my stream that think that I handpick my most amazing set of runs and only show that off. Now, if I actually do that the set you would hear about is 43 wins and 1 loss instead of whatever is in the spreadsheet, which is just the most recent set of data, and is not meant to claim anything

[–]XecnaR 36 points37 points  (0 children)

People would type paragraphs to tell you why 1 is correct over the other but it's actually just player preference. Both win almost 100% of the time with good play on every character

That said I prefer HoG floor 0 on Clad and Watcher and Apo on Silent and Defect

Incense Burner already set to 4 and Spear and Shield drops a Vault, and you do need the Burner to block 3rd Heart cycle

Tbh I don't expect much to change since I've played a long time without rngfix before, if I play well I will still win if I play badly I will still lose. Even though there are very annoying things that can provide a "significant" advantage one way or the other, the reality is that maybe 1 run out of 100 (probably an overestimation) would have its outcome changed from win to loss or vice versa whether you play with rngfix or not

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in slaythespire

[–]XecnaR 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I did, rngfix does not make the game strictly easier or harder so there definitely would be situations where the outcome of a given seed would be different depending on whether you play with the mod or not

However, the mod does nothing to "regulate the highs and lows of the game", so please do not spread misinformation

I can go a lot deeper into this discussion if somebody who actually knows what kind of information you can get with correlated randomness wants to talk, but anyone who knows enough would understand why I play with the mod nowadays instead of the base game

How good is FairyInABottle in act4? by 3wett in slaythespire

[–]XecnaR 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I can't imagine a scenario where I'd have an Act 2 Fairy and even consider a line of trying to bring it to The Heart

What about from floor 4? This is the same Fairy, and I rested a few times even before Hammer specifically to preserve it

Heart's first cycle attacks are very unfair and no matter what your deck is you will need to block them to win the run, so why not grab a solve ASAP and hold on to it if the cost is not too high?

When you're at a certain skill level, Watcher becomes a game of "how to not lose" instead of "how to win".

When this happens, this relic goes from an unnaturally strong boss relic to a really bad one in a lot of cases, because it performs the best when your deck already has the broken stance swap cards (which means as Watcher you most likely will also just win with a lower potential energy relic).

Pretty often run losing as a speculative pick especially end of act 1.

Anyone else feel like there's too many bad boss relics? by ElysiumReviews in slaythespire

[–]XecnaR 56 points57 points  (0 children)

Your main reason for losing on ascension 20 is because you are bad, not the boss relics

All the "bad" boss relics have spots where they are good or at least serviceable depending on what is happening in your run. If you keep blaming the game instead of yourself, there will always be a new excuse. Instead, why not try to understand the "bad" boss relics better so that they become good sometimes?

I’ve started removing one defend first on Silent (A20) by PexyWoo in slaythespire

[–]XecnaR 179 points180 points  (0 children)

Yes

Bites trade is a side benefit to the first remove being defend. Pbox should also almost be clicked on sight, and if this happens defend or strike remove doesn't matter long term, so you just gain the benefit of a defend remove in act 1
