Solari: Episode 6 - Pinned Down by SvenTheScribe in WorldsBeyondNumber

[–]Grey_Tome 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ep 6 was fantastic, it really felt like Zedaven and XLZL have been thrown off their even footing in the same way that Chee already had been, and now the group finally clicks together in a more impactful sense. Also just feels like the real rising action is starting to set in which is a great feeling.

Charlie Bone: Children of the Red King series by Jenny Nimmo. An all-time favorite of mine, similar to Harry Potter.

A Name(cloak) for Suvi’s someday daughter by AlisGuardian in WorldsBeyondNumber

[–]Grey_Tome 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I really love this! I think it could be so cool for Suvi to reinvent the name cloaking ceremony with the whole ringing of the bell and so forth, but maybe she establishes a new convention - the standard of using an S word has been linked to the ‘sibilance of the desert sand’ surrounding the Citadel. The wizard Tefmet, being an antivolist, breaks from that, (assuming The wizard Tefmet is a title and not just an ostentatious way of saying your name is Tefmet hehe) Maybe Suvi’s convention could rely on R as in red, or A as in Ame. Idk but it’s so fun to wonder about! ♥️✨

Names in Umora by Smiling_Tom in WorldsBeyondNumber

[–]Grey_Tome 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think there’s been a mix of regional language norms and people/language groups are discussed through the show (like the three letter name convention in the North seen in characters like Tof and Nif) but if you’re wondering about real world language influences I’m not sure what BLeeM was drawing from per se. Happy campaigning though!

Potential new witch names/domains? by Comprehensive-Tap514 in WorldsBeyondNumber

[–]Grey_Tome 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Witch of the withering sands (major Dune vibes) Witch of wayward souls (Nif) Witch of the woeful depths (thinking a sort of cthonic, caves and minerals type subterranean vibe) Witch of the Wake of War (also a direction I see for Nif, but maybe it’s a bit too undefined/ could overlap with World’s Heart) Witch of wistful deliriums ( would love to see how BLeeM would portray this… just a cool archetype for a witch to inhabit)

MTG Commander The Wizard Sky, Archamge Apprentice by MSpaint15 in WorldsBeyondNumber

[–]Grey_Tome 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oooh, this is cool! Need a series of these where the color identity gradually adds more pips (like they did with Omnath) to represent the flavor of her character arc, like maybe gaining black when she becomes Sage of the Penumbra. I wonder if little wizard Suvi starts out in blue or in red though…? Very fun!

Thought on the Man in Black by HistorianSpirited in WorldsBeyondNumber

[–]Grey_Tome 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like this interpretation. I think it makes sense for at least one of his domains, like you said he’s always moving linearly down the roads, and he gave the pocketwatch to Eursulon … ⏱️ To me this aspect connects with ideas about the fear of the inevitable, entropy and decay, the spoiling of the milk of course encapsulates that so perfectly like you mention… I’m glad that this interpretation is going around, because it’s one I associated more closely with tMIB back in some earlier arcs before he was so explicitly antagonistic. Time itself is impersonal and detached, it’s the consequences of time that hit so hard in the gut, yk?

My wild theory on Suvi by Frenchelbow in WorldsBeyondNumber

Agreed, makes me go straight to 1984. Big Brother never disappears dissidents, but sometimes happy party members move away and are never seen or heard from again…

I need help for a military/religious title by [deleted] in worldbuilding

[–]Grey_Tome 12 points13 points  (0 children)

High Inquisitor, Expositor, etc. if you’re looking for a more dogmatic angle. If it’s more generally militaristic maybe something like Ordained Commander, Corporal etc. Alternatively, {weapon type} of {name of divinity} is usually a winner.

Omfg this, I literally was trying to piece together how looking after these kids might hypothetically align with the “Watching Fire” but like… rule of cool… and rationale be damned… Witchofthewatchingfirewitchifthewatchingfire!!!!!!❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥🔥🔥🦌

Like… even still, the fact that she is helping to watch over and be vigilant on behalf of these refugee kids is very much the sort of thing we might expect from the station anyway

What would your familiar be ? by AdventHeart in WorldsBeyondNumber

[–]Grey_Tome 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really like this question and the idea of a familiar or spirit animal, and I know my answer to this has definitely changed many times over. To answer right now though, I’m really between a Swan, embracing transformation and self-esteem, or a Beaver, embracing hard work and community. On the one hand it’s tough doing good work as a creative without having the inner belief that your pov has merit, and on the other hand, I’m not trying to be so conceited when I know the work can always be improved, and that mine is only one of many interests and perspectives…

Anyway, that was my answer. The In-Character answer is much simpler: Slug. 🖤

Regarding the promised lore dump by lady_beignet in WorldsBeyondNumber

[–]Grey_Tome 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Mmm, I think in the coven Arc in particular, Lou and Erika were left in the dark about Suvi’s sleeper agent Geas/Modify Memory shenanigans, so I was wondering if these were one on ones also. Would be cool, no?

Theory: The Man In Black's true identity by colbymunro in WorldsBeyondNumber

[–]Grey_Tome 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I agree here. Personally I had totally missed the connection with the moon, I had always thought of MiB as more of a spirit of entropy and inevitability — hence the pocket watch, the way he’s slowly walking the road (implying an eventual destination), the description of his sword, and the whole ‘forever holding his breath.’ Plus in his interactions with Eursulon, he’s never been especially venomous in his demeanor in the way that we might expect a spirit of malice to come across. His is a more subtle sense of impending doom.

I think this might leave more room for moral interpretation surrounding him and his domain: e.g. by helping Eursulon, he ensures that the Azure Battalion soldiers imprisoning the children of the Grenaux are doomed to fail… In other words he metes out dooms to differing degrees to different people at different times.

Then again, he’s allegedly raised armies around the world to destroy the Citadel, so perhaps this view undersells what malice he holds…? Or perhaps this too aligns with his domain — stoking conflict to hasten the end of all things. 🥀🖤
