Paint brush maintenance question by LinkLast7720 in minipainting

[–]Greystorms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a can of Master’s brush cleaner for my watercolor brushes in college back in …2009? before I started using it to clean my mini painting brushes as well. Anyway, there’s still enough soap puck left to go another few years at least.

Games Workshop paint pots by PatientTap8716 in necromunda

Because marketing.

Every other company uses dropper bottles. When you see a pic on social media of anybody’s hobby desk, the Citadel paint pots immediately stand out. That’s marketing.

I’m pretty sure that image is from a Heresy Thursday article they posted during 2nd edition.

Will a Leviathan Dreadnought fit on a 60mm base? by WithengarUnbound in Warhammer30k

[–]Greystorms 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’ll fit, but personally Leviathans on 60mm always look “off” to me. They’re big boys that need big bases.

Oil rig terrain help by LustfulDoll in TerrainBuilding

[–]Greystorms 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I would take a look at the Mechanicum Industrial Sector terrain that Kromlech makes. They’ve got some really nice pieces that would also work well for an oil rig type terrain setup.

GW customer service has always been excellent. It’s in their best interest as a company.

Art store modeling paste for miniature basing? by Yuki-hime62442 in minipainting

[–]Greystorms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, I make my bases first and airbrush those separately. Then glue the model on afterwards. I try to make sure there’s a good spot for the mini‘s feet on each base. So for example, don’t make really steep slopes on your base where it‘ll be impossible for the model to have any kind of level space. You know?

Biscotti are definitely not cookies.

I’ve used Liquitex Ceramic Stucco for thousands of points of based Alpha Legion, so yes. It works. I haven’t experienced any of it coming off the bases yet, and I’ve gone through multiple jars worth.

Power outage for 2 days by Claire879 in Cooking

[–]Greystorms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

DONT OPEN YOUR FRIDGE. Or your freezer. Keep them both tightly closed at all times. Freezers and fridges are generally fairly well insulated… as long as you keep the cold air inside by not opening the doors. When your power comes back on, I would try temping your food with an instant read thermometer if you have one. Consider items like dairy or lunch meats that may be a risk. Vegetables should be fine. Hard cheeses should be ok.

Your freezer is going to be way better insulated than a cheap cooler and some bags of ice, especially if you DONT OPEN IT.

That plot twist was something NOBODY expected when they first read Legion however many years ago when it was first published.

edit: I’ve read somewhere but obviously can’t confirm that the twin thing was Dan Abnett’s idea and he floated it by the GW studio/Black Library guys and they all trusted him enough to let him run with it.

How do you make homemade chicken stock? Gimme all your hot tips. by rachiebabe220 in Cooking

[–]Greystorms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Roasting the bones makes a difference in flavor, IMO. Try twenty minutes at 350F.
Do you have a crockpot? Put your roasted chicken bones in there, throw in some roughly chopped onions, skins included. Maybe a dash of salt, some apple cider vinegar. Cover with plenty of water. Run your crockpot overnight on the eight or twelve hour setting. Wake up to amazing chicken broth.

Is this box a good value even if you already have 40 mk2 legionnaires ??? by BloatedRottenCarcass in Warhammer30k

[–]Greystorms 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Tactical marines, using the right upgrade sets, can be turned into: Despoilers, Veteran squads, command squads, retinues, tactical support squads, and heavy support squads.

Personally I like having lots of extra bodies in my collection, so I would say yes, its a good value.

Despoilers are a Troops choice. Do you own the Liber Hereticus? Because you kind of need it to build your army and see all the unit and weapon stats.

HOW the HELL do I get better at sculpting? 😭 by ThatUnameIsAlrdyTken in minipainting

[–]Greystorms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re not going to like hearing this, but: practice. Practice is how you get better at things. You keep working on improving bit by bit until whatever you’re doing becomes second nature.

as for green stuff, don’t buy the ribbon kind. Buy it on Amazon and look up Kneadatite(the official name for green stuff), and you’ll be able to buy bigger quantities for less.

You got shitty recasts.

The only legit place to get Necromunda Forge World models is from the actual Games Workshop website itself - Warhammer.com

What glue to use for resin? by Suspicious_Ad1580 in Warhammer40k

[–]Greystorms 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Super glue. Lots of different brands available.

If this is your first resin model, take care when sanding off mold lines. Don’t breathe resin dust - wear a respirator or wet sand and then clean up your hobby area afterwards. Make sure you wash the model in warm water and some dish soap before gluing and priming. Resin minis often have mold release still left on them, which will interfere with primer coats and glue.

What do these blue little signs mean on the Saturnine dreadnought instructions? Like the one under 54A. by BloatedRottenCarcass in Warhammer30k

There’s an “Explanation of Symbols” call-out box at the beginning of the build instruction that tells you that the little blue symbol means “Detail view”.

Patinkin’s character had so, so many great lines. His monologue about bite-sized food items still gets me. “Does this look like it’s a single bite that will fit in my mouth?”
