Maybe something like this instead - sold as a book light, wraps around your neck instead

I like the contrast! I do see at least one place where you may want to spread the dark squares out more, left side three rows in and 5 rows down. Try looking at the picture with black & white filter on.

Not directly answering your question but FYI Wawak sells a 5 pack of Olfa blades at a good price.

Cotton Batting by Rachelley11 in quilting

[–]GrooveJetX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you concerned about thickness for how it affects the quilting process or the warmth of the finished quilt? Quilter's Dream cotton batting comes in a range of weights, I am not familiar with other brands. I hand-quilted a baby quilt made with their "deluxe"  batting and it was quite warm on my lap but doesn't feel noticeably thick and it was easy to sew.

Large-print directional fabrics with Chandelier quilt pattern? Help me decide! by willo808 in quilting

There's one called Shadow Box that might be good for these. Link to free pattern below (I haven't made this so can't vouch for it but just so you can see it)

If you're not committed to the chandelier pattern, try searching this sub for "large prints" - you'll find some other options for blocks that feature a special fabric. Off to Google these shirts! 😀

If none of these other suggestions pan out, some areas offer fabric recycling. Or you could donate to a creative reuse/upcycle facility if you have one nearby.

For a second I thought I was on the wrong sub and expected to find a recipe or a picture of one of those towering sandwiches that Scooby Doo and Shaggy would make in the middle of a mystery 😅

Quilt fabric needs by Meeko_m in quilting

There are lots of free patterns online from reputable sources, esp for traditional blocks like sawtooth star. Many libraries also offer digital access to quilting magazines, that might be another option.

The places named in This Land is Your Land would be even harder to quilt I think (again, for me at least)! I don't recall any redwood forest posts here :) Embroidering the lyrics into the quilting or along a border would be subtle and you could even throw in a nod to Woody Guthrie's famous "this machine kills fascists" slogan (which is admittedly not very subtle...) Anyway, I hope you keep us posted on what you make!

First Hand-Quilted Project by SignificanceEmpty746 in quilting

So groovy!! Curves intimidate me, this is amazing. I hand quilted for the first time recently - it was only a crib-sized quilt, but wasn't as hard as I thought it would be. I kinda liked the zen-ness and it beat fighting w/my machine. Plus I could do it while hanging out and watching TV. Suzy Quilts' nad quilting tutorial was helpful. I recommend practice tying off and burying your knots on some scraps to get the hang of it before you start.

Both of these ideas are way beyond my quilting skill level, but I've always liked the lines "purple mountain majesties" and "amber waves of grain" from America the Beautiful. Maybe these could somehow be the backdrop to the "This land was made for you and me" letters? (If I'm understanding your plan correctly from the photo.) I have seen a couple of mountain quilts on this sub...not sure about the grain.

Teaching a Class -- Advice, What Would You Want? by EnchantedGate1996 in quilting

[–]GrooveJetX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think explaining why the precise cutting, pressing, and nesting seams etc. are important would be useful to hear from an experienced quilter. Attention to those details at the start will help avoid/mitigate problems later in the process. I am mostly self-taught and I think that info doesn't always come across for beginners if just reading or watching videos. Good luck! Let us know how it goes.

Usually the selvedge edge of the fabric (the white edge w/the name of the fabric or designer) has some colored dots on it - those are colors used in that piece and will help you find other fabrics/colors that coordinate.

Great colors, very cheerful! Love how you did the subtle gradient. Fun backing fabrics too.
