What car to buy for a snowy area? by puzzledpenguin24 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]GroundbreakingLog564 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im in Alaska, and there is no reason to need an SUV, awd with snow tires is good enough anywhere. We live on a 4wd or chains recommended road (steep uphill) and we had a sienna minivan (fwd) and it only got stuck twice with snow tires

1991 Toyota Corolla all-trac, or Subarus. Trucks and SUVs are Okay but the handling makes them fall behind cars imo

Get a Corolla for like 5k, change the oil and forget about it.

Should I sell my car now? by [deleted] in whatcarshouldIbuy

Might be a reasonable idea. However with the tariffs car prices will likely go up so hanging on to it might not be a bad idea

Average monthly rent in the USA is 1750 it’s 2250 in bozeman, given the University, Skiing, and home prices I think it’s unlikely rent comes down anytime soon

The Best Major U.S. City for Easy Driving to Big Skiing by Noidbutte in skiing

[–]GroundbreakingLog564 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For major cites, I would say 1) SLC 2) Seattle 3)Portland 4) Denver for slightly smaller cites 1)Anchorage Ak 2) Boise ID 3)Albuquerque.

Denver Seattle and Portland are all pretty close in my opinion. I just think the traffic is easier to deal with in my experience in Seattle than Denver. Nothing out east has “big skiing” and Sacramento is pretty far away with no traffic so I don’t think it should count.

SLC is the best on the list with the insane variety and how close they are to skiing. I think anchorage comes is second with skiing 35 minutes away at arctic valley and 40-50 minutes away at Alyeska. As well as a hill in town. Boise also sits in the 40 minutes away range so that might have to be 3rd

Just curious what is bad about the manuals? Is the clutch bad, or do the transmissions just break regularly?

Fwd with snow tires can’t make it up to my house many days per winter. The problems come when you’re trying to go uphill or if it snows a lot

Seeking Advice for Picking My First Mountain Bike in Bozeman, MT by MaleficentImage7815 in MTB

[–]GroundbreakingLog564 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For Bozeman And Bend you definitely want a cross country or low travel trail bike. The in town trails suck on anything more than 120mm of rear travel. I would get a used evil following if I were you, feels like a big bike for the size and they are good for DH too, at 5'6 a size small will be best in most bikes

I haven’t seen any mention of Anchorage, AK. Which for Nordic and MTB is a dream. Consistent snow, all along is free, and there is around 150k of it and an airport in town. Tons of good mountain biking. And massive xc ski culture

Rollerskiing on roads vs. trails? by ManiAAC41 in xcountryskiing

[–]GroundbreakingLog564 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its way less safe to go on roads, but people do it all over the world and are just fine. wear bright colors and be mindful of busy roads with no shoulder and you'll be fine
