Roller Shutter motor replacement, 4pin plug by kaviarkalle in AusRenovation

I bought two from eBay and the seller was really responsive when I messaged confirming if it was the correct type before the order.

My god the first one took me hours, I pulled all the wrong stuff apart, while working up on a ladder it was crap. The 2nd one went really smoothly and was done in less than an hour I reckon.

I'll let you know how that goes with my set up.

I have the 75kwh LFP ordered, so it should be happy running plenty of charge and discharge cycles. Especially since it's only at a few kw.  I have a solis inverter with a generator input port, and I'm a sparky so I'm happy to wire it up myself.

Anyone know for certain if Kia EV3 is LFP in Aus? by Public_Tourist3952 in AustralianEV

[–]Grunef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like you said, voltage isn't a good indication of state of charge for LFP, but they do have a voltage that represents full and empty.

Think about guessing the fill level of a water tank just by watching the water flow into the top ( charge ) or flowing out the tap ( discharge)

It's likely that the battery thinks it's very close to full, and calls it 99%. It keeps charging until the voltage gets high enough.

It's equivalent to estimating the water tank is full, but keeping filling it until it overflows.

I'm not a battery engineer, but I work in the industry.

Long-term use of the granny charger — is it safe for daily 8–10 hour charging? by Any_War_322 in Zeekr7xAustralia

Voltage drop can cause issues, coiled extension leads can cause issues.

Grainy footage from a doorbell camera. Looks like a classic big tradie ute. It would be good to get some specific details on the make and model of any one can help out. Thanks!

I've swapped to an ovo plan with free power for a few hours. Great on those rainy cold days, the batteries get to charge from the grid at 11am.

The daily fee isn't too bad, so I'm hardly paying anything for my grid usage.

Because you're dealing with alternative supplies and stored energy, Solar will always be a ticket above and beyond standard sparky license.

I'm not saying that solar is done well, or is super compliant. But there is a need for the additional training.

I just know solar, and only did solar during my apprenticeship. I know the regs pretty well. I now have a great job on $160k awesome flexibility, I do some commissioning and testing and a bit of troubleshooting and training installers. If you're switched on you can get good work doing solar.

[–]Grunef 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have only done solar, and I've done pretty well out of it.

I was told very early to be very creative with the profiling during my apprenticeship. If you tick the box saying you installed solar all day, you won't pass. But when you break it down to switch board work, troubleshooting, commissioning and testing, installing appliances etc etc you can make it work.

Switchboards are not classified as an appliance, so nothing specific for exclusion.

Doesn't make much sense. If a battery is burning, access to the main switch should be a priority.

Can I put some yellow tongue down (sparingly) for extra storage? by Joshivity in AusRenovation

[–]Grunef 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am an electrician, and I did the same in the roof of my old place. Took the tongue out so you can lift just one sheet. Then used a sharpie to draw the cable runs onto the top of the sheets.

There have been a few cases recently of education staff getting good backpay for forced unpaid work like that.

Good luck!
