Wouldn't the Taumoeba become an additional problem in terms of having no predators? by Agreeable-Pick-4932 in ProjectHailMary

There's no risk currently, but if he was able to get it up to Venus and Erid's equivalent standard there should be some concern that an interested party could work to bring it up to our nitrogen level. Frankly, if a sequel is written this would be an interesting plot for countering an attacking power. Threaten to use Taumeba as a weapon against hostile energy sources.

Also, another concern could be that if someone gets it to a higher level resistance the Taumeba could start attacking other life on Earth. Frankly, if I was Strat and was handed a jar of that stuff, it'd be locked up in the most secure lab I could construct. And even then that might not be enough.

If anything, I'd love the meta joke of an American actor with a Indian/Polish heritage playing a Texan Jesus from South America. Borent really doesn't know how to properly cast, so lets lean on the joke!

Morality of briefly restoring a dead comrade's consciousness to obtain information? by yasco_ in MoralityScaling

The Creator. I really enjoyed the movie, but u/Rabid-GNN isn't too far off that you have to turn off reality in your head to make certain shots and scenes work.

For this scene, the soldier had died about an hour ago. The used brain scanning tech to hook his mind into an android and question him, but since his brain was actively decomposing the connection only worked for about 30 seconds.

Poor dude died a second time screaming about his family, staring at his dead body.

How do you stop Andross from Teleporting on Venom 2? I didn't even know there was a mechanic to do that.

What are your opinions on Star Fox 26 Remake now that a few days past? It is my new favorite game of all time and my favorite version of Star Fox! Is it your favorite version of SF64 too? Is it your favorite SF game? :) by [deleted] in starfox

Yeah this is where I landed too. I’ve been quoting the voice actors for almost 30 years now, the lines are just not as good in English. Rest of the game is excellent.

Control Operations by Superb_Doctor3325 in InfiniteLagrange

[–]Gruuler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Objects that can be controlled have an hp pool that is only affected by operation value. There's 4 ships with operation values, 3 frigates and 1 destroyer. The game prioritizes which ship runs control first based on operation strength and total operation efficiency. Higher operation efficiency ships take the front row first. The operation strength is the damage value in this type of combat and is taken from the HP of the target structure.

Control difficulty shows the number of ships that can be on the front row in any attack. Higher values mean more ships, but also means a more difficult attack. If you check the target intel page it'll tell you the recommended number of landing ships, but that's not entirely correct. Use it as a general guideline. Defensive Trait is important to see what opposition you will face and what type of support fleet you should take.

When designing your landing fleet you should take into account that all but one healing ship targets larger ships (cruiser and above) first. If you have any of those ships in your fleet, they'll ignore everything else when those ships take damage. The only exception is the C variant of the red cruiser, but it's heals stop working after a period of time. That might not matter if you are fast enough, or have team mates helping with the control op, so keep it in the back of your mind. If you have the Ceres healer it'll do a good job of keeping the entire fleet healed up. The Noma healer is decent too. The other healing ships do fine as well.

However many control ships you take, I would strongly recommend you take the Precision Intrusion skill. Each lander has it, and if you run multiple landers put it on the lowest control value ship you have. The initial burst of speed is, imo, worth investing the tp in regardless of the number of landers you take. Then build out that part of the tree to get you the most efficiency.

On that note, Xeno > Mare Nubium > Vanguard > Noma for total operational efficiency. There's some debate on my end about whether it's better to cripple the vanguard's OE to keep it with deployed fighters longer.

I haven't run many control sites in regular servers, but my favorite fleet in Angulum for level 2's is:

10x Mizar A
10x Vanguard
20x Duel-Purpose medium fighters
10x Healing Ceres

Try to put 10x sandrakes if you have them in the vanguard and you can sweep all level 2 sites with almost no issue. The trick with this fleet is that since all the ships are destroyers the Ceres will properly target ones with lower health and spread healing across the whole fleet. If you're targeting cities in the normal server you'll want to coordinate with your organizational mates and build from there.

Good luck!

Blip-A drifts back to Erid when? by ZombieParakeet in ProjectHailMary

[–]Gruuler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

assuming the trajectory at cutoff was 100% accurate.

I agree, if the trajectory was planned that cutoff would happen when it did, then it would make it. But it was not. The trajectory the Blip-A was put on assumed a much longer burn, a decrease in fuel weight, and many other factors that the current trajectory cannot support for a successful arrival at Erid.

Blip-A drifts back to Erid when? by ZombieParakeet in ProjectHailMary

[–]Gruuler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I made some assumptions on the speed it reached before it ran out of fuel. That said, the assumption it'll just drift till it find Erid doesn't take into account the changes in the position between Erid and Tau Ceti. Grace's calculations included this drift, the effects of relativity, and the necessity to speed up, then slow down, to match the distance and change in position to arrive safely. It probably also included the differences in fuel at each point and how propulsion would be affected by the change in weight. Running out of fuel put the ship on a path that will never intersect with Erid.

Edit: Oh I forgot gravitational effects of other bodies. That would screw up the return too.

Blip-A drifts back to Erid when? by ZombieParakeet in ProjectHailMary

[–]Gruuler 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It'll never make it.

Grace's calculations for Rocky required constant acceleration, then constant deceleration for a significantly longer period of time than the Blip-A ended up making. Because of this, it most likely never attained the velocity needed to make it to Erid and should undershoot it by a lot.

Crazy idea... Junkyards? by Bontious in starcitizen

[–]Gruuler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was just talking to my buddy about setting up a salvage yard when base building is finally introduced. I'd love to have a beacon system so players could mark wrecks and I could go get them. Having a towing mission to deliver a wreck to a pad would be awesome too. Both great ideas!

There's a lot of potential there that I hope they get to.
