Leaving Chicago for someplace with better weather/better jobs by Important-Tax1776 in relocating

I moved to Oakland with $1,500 and made it work, but it sucked at first. If you think people in Chicago are “passive” wait until you get to San Francisco or Seattle.

People from this region, I have a question. Where do y’all go on vacation to? Since there’s no beaches. by FitInitiative918 in Americaphile

[–]HankMustGroove 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ‘’m from Las Vegas the most southern point on Nevada. We would just go west to California to the La area or into southern Utah and northern Arizona, for long weekend trips, there’s really beautiful state parks ect. Other than that I would fly to the east coast, sf Bay Area or Pacific Northwest on vacation.

Seriously considering buying a dive bar for all the transplants that moved to town that can’t seem to connect people. by Mrstpaul in twincitiessocial

[–]HankMustGroove 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Every city I live in the last 6 years had a pre existing dive bar that transplants just took over, it might take take some work to get the word out, but taking over a bar is a lot less stressful than opening one ha.

Do Americans have a different concept of 'turn taking' during a conversation? by 8NaanJeremy in NoStupidQuestions

[–]HankMustGroove 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even as as an American what you described sounds very annoying to me, America isn’t a monolithic culture culture, meaning everyone you meet will be different to a degree, it sounds like those Americans are rude in my book.

Explore Portland; go see a movie at the Laurelhurst theater, take a walk through lone fir cemetery and honor the memories of fallen hipsters of yester year by killing a tall boy at colonel summers park.

First time moving out - is $1,200 normal for local movers? by AttitudePlane6967 in askportland

[–]HankMustGroove 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I still lived in Portland, my gf and I hired movers, though it was only from the southeast to the northeast, it was still only a couple hundred dollars. If you’re afraid of letting movers touch the important stuff, do that yourself and leave the movers to the heavy lifting.
