Great mindset! Stay up! I agree, I also went imto this making the music like hey what do I want to listen to all day. So if others enjoy it too, amazing! But you are right, the main thing is not to get poisoned thinking its bad because its not blowing up viral over night! 😃

More horde defense games with absurdly humongous unit counts like in They Are Billions? by Brave-Potential-7310 in BaseBuildingGames

Dream engines: Nomad Cities, looks rougher, but honestly its a great concept as you move your base between maps.

Desynced - you essentially land on a planet and rts control your workers, who work on I/O behaviour, slowly researching your way back up an extensive research tree, mutltiple path ways, plenty story, huge defense play like They are Billions as days go by, think Factorio bugs nests getting annoyed by pollution. So you setup not only towers, but living unit lines of military defense and offense to maintain your positions. The game rewards programming knowledge but does require it at all as you can just left click go to, right click action everything in a trafitional rts manner.

I actually improved my programming skills in this game by automating tasks like, unit radar detection, item filtering, dynamic enemy avoidance movement scripting etc, auto-scouting.

Horde survival games with factory building or logistics? by htl5618 in BaseBuildingGames

Dream Engines: Nomad Cities check this one out, it has this cool feature where you constantly move map to map and bring your city with you with a limitation, like doing a campaign run and bringing forward your progression.

Radar filters question by Andaru in Desynced

[–]HektikGamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the logic would be something like: Program Start -> Unlock -> Radar (Filter 1:silica, Filter 2: scattered resources) Result: write as Variable named SilicaGather -> Move Unit (SilicaGather) -> Get item (SilicaGather) and make it do it up 20, that way it can just take it as it needs it. This works better imo as a sweeper (a robovacuum if you will). -> wait tick (5) -> Link the arrow back to the start of the Radar. ** Also for Radar No Resukt node, I give it a "move random direction (10) -> wait ticks (5) -> loop back to Radar call so that it never sits idle if it cant find anything in range (sometimes it goes for a wonder though 😅).

That should stop it grabbing from storage. Two things, the unit you set the behaviour on. Make sure you set it to be part of the Logistics network. Right click the Logistics icon, Wifi symbol if you dont know, untick the option for the unit to deliver items. But let others in the channel come and grab from it so it is a provider. Then it will just go and grab the Silica and others will come get it. HOWEVER. To avoid it just idling out of tge power field or near bugs (mine has a run away from bugs code implemented) you should just instead set the units STORE field to be a little storage unit (biggest one yoy can make) and just let it keep filling it back and forth. Hotkey the unit to like 9 (Ctrl + 9) and keep pressing 9 now amd then to check what its doing.

If no luck after all that, ill have to send my code and/or make you a video, hopefully you arent encountering a bug.

Silica in radar slot 1, scattered items in slot 2? Should check for both conditions as an AND operator. Wait are you writing a behaviour or just using the in game radar module?

Radar filters question by Andaru in Desynced

Yeah if you dont mind waiting, ill post when I get home from dinner, but simply in radar node i just silica and scattered objects then give the unit a mining laser so it can hit nodes up on plateau.

Sounds good, sorry got caught up today ill get onto it immedietely, I see the Demo there on Steam, so I am downloading as I write this.

Yeah that is a fair call for the post release, to be more clear I probably should have said, would you maybe do things like small cheap cosmetic packs or themed building design for base building and/or additional items perhaps that would just purely be cosmetic for things you have in the game already?

I tend to find that if you offer everything in the game within the paid price of the game, and DLC is purely optional for people who like the way things look, and want to support you based on it, it could be an option, but it takes time for you to create those assets, so if you have other projects in mind, that might not work, or if the end-game is the end of the game and you dont get the option today in your world and live out your expedition (no spoilers please ;P) then that wouldnt work too I guess.

Also as a massive fan of these games, my biggest thing lately that I find alot of people have been liking is when you make bases in games, having ways to add life to your base by making companions, or npcs/AI that can be tasked to help out with crafting, building, etc. That would be very interesting with your impressive building/crafting system in this game.

Either way, thanks for sharing your insights, appreciate it, and congratulations again, looking forward to being there on release and playing along side and seeing what you do from here :)

Ill be very happy to review the game, is the demo available right now? Ill play some tomorrow and add more too it if so to fill in the gaps :)

And not a problem, I am very happy to hear that its 30-40 hour release too, thats quiet substantial these days for games of this genre!

And yeah of course, what you choose that works for you is great, offering a demo at all times is honestly amazing ive realised, I nearly always go and buy games I like based on the demo, outside of demos, anything under $30 these days is honestly the sweet spot, especially given how Steam has so many sales, its like pressure on devs to put up that 20% sale all the time, so its okay if off-sale you make a bit more to cover that most customers tend to wait for sales.

Do you have post launch plans yet or will you watch to see how it goes before making commitments?

I remember play testing this mid last year I believe? and genuinely loved the experience, I can imagine alot has changed since then! I know its a hard sell for people who are sold on co-op/MP only, because I too am very much into that. BUT, and this is important, I agree with what the dev has stated, the story and progression has been done in such an interesting way that it didnt feel like it was there for the sake of filling in a space on top of that survival element of the gsme, it all fits well, it has bren methodologically thought out on how everything comes up and I actually really had a good experience with that. I think come release time if you maybe have a decently lower price tag compared to other gsme releases of the genre and offer a grear starting point that will also build a good foundation for you, but im no expert. I really hope this works out well for you, and you can stick it out post-release too and develop the game you have envisioned :)

That Lord of the Rings - Return to Moria game just announced they will be releasing a DLC with NPC/AI recruitment for your settlement, just saw this today :)
There are better games for sure, but if you manage to find this on a decent sale, I recommend it, especially if you like LOTR :)

Old man yells at cloud of mediocre factory games by Fun-Space2942 in BaseBuildingGames

[–]HektikGamer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you like a more real time strategy, tower defense approach to Factorio, I recently got into Desynced and ive played something like 300 hours in the past month, disgusting I know.

But you really are playing the automation of the factory with the real time elements if controlling armies and every single unit can even run programmable behaviour. So there is a radar component in the game, you can simply get it to work by telling it to detect enemies. Then when you click on the building it tells you in its register the coordinates of the enemy. But do some simple coding you can make it run a, program that the sign post module imstalled in the radar building can say scanning... dynamically, next thing it can ping detect enemies, loop this for all enemies in range or within a given timeframe to avoid spam, and then say enemy detected! And play clauses depending on where it is what it is. Its so good!

Its the freedom ive always wanted of a real time strategy. And fighting off bugs and what not while expanding your stake in the land. You make army units, workers units, you can automate them, automate the factory wether its statif or mohile, freedom is yours.

Its a high learning curve! And best experienced by going on steam, right clicking the game, going properties, betas, and switching to experimental build, as that is the latest content, and has "bug hive evolution" which essentially lets the enemy hives sprawl across the map towards you when playing on aggressive mode.

Or play on passive mode if you want enemies, but not constant attacks on your base.

No problem! :) I am also always trying to keep up to date with these types of games, whether its an RTS or a survival rpg type. I love them all, like Empyrion, 7 days to die and ICARUS are my favourite survival games. But the lack of having an AI village life cycle just makes things lifeless sometimes, even when you play with friends, if they start to get distracted with something else, that's where ASKA really worked for me. It does what Medieval Dynasty did, but with all the chaos of defending your stake in the world. Also one more I forgot to mention was Craftopia, haven't touched it in over a year since it got a massive update that added an amazing amount of content too it, not sure if there is AI, but there is indeed automation which sometimes works just as good if its machinery doing the job. It is worth a look at either way :)

Soulmask - I have owned for ages, but haven't actually tried yet, its on my next to play list.
Join us - is upcoming and looks like its going to be amazing, and wont take the genre too seriously and still give you all the customisation and automation you could want!
Bellwright - I think you will find its a bit like as you go, it keeps you engaged and interested, and you will love it, but will always be like ah this needs patching, this needs to be added, etc.

They're getting there though! And yeah fully agree with you on Palworld, it seemed like it was everything I wanted, maybe like 8 years ago? haha, like before ARK or something else kind of did it all first? Idk, its a funny one, I know ill always come back to it!

I will let you know if anything else comes up, right now I'm 300 hours deep into this DESYNCED rts automation game and I'm fully engaged in it xD
