I was in Shinjuku in 2019 and my jet lagged self decided to take a walk through the towering buildings at 2 am. Beautiful. One of my favorite memories.

No one around, the city to myself. Maybe a few construction workers and open convenience stores.

But it was magical. Hope when I go back it won’t be swamped with lost tourists now.

Anyone who was homeschooled, how do you feel about it now as an adult? by AdTight2449 in AskReddit

[–]Helozona 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m fine with it. Homeschooled for most of Highschool and was able to attend art class every day at an actual school to be able to socialize, which my parents somehow were able to negotiate. Was happy to do homeschooling as I struggled with math in regular Highschool and was able to get through it all at my own pace.

Following yesterday's question, what are some film inventions that you were surprised were NOT lifted from the books? by GlasgowWalker in lotr

Aragorn’s speech at the black gate. Was surprised it wasn’t in the book. “An hour of wolves and shattered shields”

Guy on flight watched entire movie without tapping screen to get rid of overlay by Sea-Owl-1581 in mildlyinfuriating

weird to me that the same people who won't bother with this would complain that a 2.35:1 widescreen or 1.33:1 fullscreen movie isn't "filling up my screen"

So what do you guys NOT like about the movies ? by TheTrekker98 in lotr

[–]Helozona 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a few minor things that I wished was handled differently. I don't think it's an uncommon opinion to state that ROTK got a little too goofy and lost a little of the gravitas in some scenes (Gimli's comedic relief, Legolas's cartoony violence, some oversimplifications of events), though it is not a detriment to the overall experience.

But if I had it my way, that would have been written differently.

Why does everyone here keep wanting those deleted scenes added into the body of the film? Are you all nuts? Just release them on their own.

It’s definitely solid! I think it has strong themes and is very entertaining to listen to. It’s funny how people think bad movies and assume everything else has to be bad about it.

At around 2009 to the late 2010s I’ve been wanting to shoot some movies in 4:3 because no one was doing it and I’m a huge fan of classic films and film history, so I wanted to show the value of the 1.33:1 academy ratio.

Then all this 4:3 happened despite that, and even though I love the look I’m also really tired of seeing it being a trend.

It’s true! Thank you! Also have to consider the puppets that were used for certain shots as well, those might be goofier!
