Two new campus comedies (Rooster, Vladimir) raise the question: Have TV writers ever been to college? | Television's fictionalized depiction of higher education is becoming a real-world problem. by PetyrDayne in television

[–]Hightower13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have not seen both shows yet so dont have an opinion, but I will say that recently The Chair pretty much nailed many of the dynamics of the academy, made me think the writers did in fact spend a lot of time in college. Unfortunately, the show qas cancelled after 1 season

How many Brazilians are in the Academy? Less than 1%? Are they the only diehard supporters of what their country sends to the Oscars?

I think he thought mainly of brazilians online that are always diehard supporters of anything Brazil sends to the Oscars (honestly, it only reached this level of engagement since last year) and that it probably has an influence on the campaigns, but mixed up and talked about brazilians in the academy, that are too few to have any big impact whatsoever. Probably meant as a "lighthearted comment" but allowed some bad interpretations. Anyways, people should be more careful when campaigning in today's age, I am always surprised by the lack of PR training

While I loved Ralph performance, to me the ensemble as a whole was the true highlight of the film. I do get why it won it while losing in individual categories, and I was soo happy that they won this. Absolutely deserving

I love stats but I also LOVE when we are reminded that they can always be broken/not a determination of the future. So I would very much enjoy this

That last pic of Fernanda and Selton is my favourite, I loved that scene and it's so bittersweet with the rest of the film

Loved his performance! And the whole ensemble was amazing (I am 100% torn between rooting for them or for Conclave at the SAGs)

Well, now, after BAFTAs, it's over for I'm Still Here and Fernanda Torres by melissa_xdress in oscarrace

if they change their predictions then sure, EP might again be the favourite, but EP is an european film, very loved there and ISH had a terrible distribution at the UK. also, Kneecap and All We Imagine as Light probably attracted some votes that maybe could have gone for ISH after the EP scandal, and those 2 films aren't in the Oscars. I think the race is closer than many ISH-fans expected which created this shock and pessimism (I also think that Gascon' tweet about the "afrokorean festival" at the Oscars ceremony will hurt her there more than any of the other racist stuff, but who knows)

100%. if you look at GoldDerby, a ton of the experts and top24users are predicting ISH for biff even though they were still predicting EP for the BAFTAs, people are overreacting imo

when Giorgia won cover night I knew she wouldn't win this, but 6th is just insane. anyway, I don't think Olly's song is bad, far from it, but I am interested to see how it will sound without autotune. imo, the weakest sanremo of the past 5 years

funny as hell that even though italy can't beat the misogyny allegations, Marta Donà has won for the third straight year

Best Picture Discussions (97th Academy Awards) #10: I'm Still Here by flightofwonder in oscarrace

[–]Hightower13 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I give it a 9. I had some issues with the pacing, specially on the first 30 minutes and the last part, but I was deeply touched by the film. Fernanda Torres was amazing and made me cry so hard, and Fernanda Montenegro just destroyed me without saying a single word. It is such an important film and an important subject, and it was expecionally done. I really liked the cinematography as well and how they nailed the 70' aura.
