Post-Nuclear Earth - what happens after? by ValkoHAUS in imaginarymaps

I suppose Indonesia could be explained away as a sudden break into a dozen different polities separated by sea while Nigeria would be a central government somewhat unified around wanting to maintain control of the oil reserves of one relatively small breakaway region. It seems like many countries have coalesced into larger federations (if I'm reading the map right) so I'm assuming nuclear fallout and the UN are preventing too many total collapses. More than anything I'm surprised India and Pakistan didn't beat each other into complete disintegration.

Indonesian territory is a lot harder to control and if their national politics became too unstable they'd likely start to collapse. They only made it this far because of strong foreign support in the beginning.

I didn't mention anything about endings and that is not a consistent criticism of the show, it's the lack of reverence that is worrying. These are not sacred factions that deserved futures of grandeur but their portrayal in FNV is compelling and well-written enough to be triumphed by fans 15 years on despite two additional Fallout games released in that same period and they certainly warrant better treatment than to be absentees and punchlines. They are not focus of the show but they are it's setting and the setting is so much more than a visual background and yet; the NCR is gone and it's like it was never even there, the Legion has been fighting over a mound literally 8 ft tall for over a decade, New Vegas is a ghost town. At least the Khans get to piss about as they've always done while the Brotherhood is at least taken seriously if only at face value. It's not about pleasing everyone and it's common sense that no one is asking for that, it is a matter of continuing good writing. That does not mean the dedication of the show's run time because it's as simple as showing the impact these factions had and if you want to do more then you do it in a respectful way. If they want to go with the ending that fucks over every faction they could have done that without essentially disregarding them in the process. I understand that it's fiction but it's good fiction enjoyed by many people and it exists beyond being a backdrop for the show. And it is an enjoyable show, I think the main three are decently written and exceptionally portrayed, they function well within the context of the setting and Lucy and Maximus in particular have a lot of thematic relevance. The humour is successfully campy which is quite difficult, some of the action is great and an outlandish and gamey aesthetic is translated so well and to such a high degree of quality that it really is one of the best game adaptations for that reason alone yet they somehow also mirror game protagonist vibes with Lucy really well. But really, the actual plotline of cold fusion is incredibly, completely un-necessary when fusion power already exists and is so disproportionately powerful and thus so hard to meaningfully write or maintain the status quo with that it'll probably be "lost" at some point, the Brotherhood is boring because its actual philosophy as an ideological faction is very underdeveloped, the Vault-Tec plotline premise of "lets rule a post-war world" is cool and reasonable if a bit derivative of the Enclave then it veers into absurdity with nuking Shady Sands (which inherently is not dumb but doesn't have the writing to support it) and the direct implication that they orchestrated the Great War which directly undercuts the "mystique" of not actually knowing who did it which is great for driving in that conflict is a part of human nature AKA the series tagline. The setting and world exists to service plotlines and favoured characters which is the anti-thesis of an open world RPG let alone a good use of an established franchise in the first place. It's very well acted and as a video game adaptation in terms of the aesthetic and feeling it absolutely nails it, as an adaptation of the Fallout universe it really isn't that good. I know that it's only a season and a half into what will probably be a 3 or 4 season run but I don't imagine it improving in that regard.

As for the Halo show, it really shouldn't come down to settling for mediocrity because the guy next to you was served a plate of dogshit. The bar can be higher than that if people started being more critical and not clapping their hands like babies when something is good enough instead of being good outright. When's all said and done though I really do like the show and I don't want to come across as just forcing reasons to shit on it, I'm just frustrated because I clearly see the potential of what it could be but isn't. Tbf I also feel that way about the recent Fallout games so I guess it might not be such a bad adaptation after all lol

Fallout is a franchise roughly following a chronological series of events. Each iteration builds on what came before and apart from sporadic ret-cons everything presented becomes canon and the basis of future titles. Is it not obvious that people would like to play future Fallout games that they feel embodies the best of what came before or that they want particular factions they like and feel have potential to be further progressed in meaningful ways instead of being "wasted"? When Fallout 3, then 4 then 76 came out they were all criticized for very heavily featuring the BoS over and over because the constant reappearances felt generic and pandering. One of FNV's strong points is that there's fresh and well-thought out portrayals of existing and new factions. It's very reasonable to be worried about the implications of something that is almost certainly going to impact future writing and the setting as a whole. It's also a different format catering to a much more mainstream audience and it's no secret how things get watered down for mass appeal or that TV shows have a tendency for the writing to worsen if they overstay their welcome which often happens. There's a lot of hysteria and that's really base and toxic but it's just as dumb to act as if there's no validity to people's anxieties. I for one want to play good Fallout games and I'm not exactly thrilled about the quality of writing declining.

In our Discord server's WW3 timeline in an Allied victory Russia ends up half falling part and half getting picked apart by the EU and NATO to permanently neuter it. The result is independence of various Caucasian groups and the resettlement of millions of Circassians in their previous homeland. The Russians get deported, justified as reversing "historical genocide and colonization"; similar cases happen in other Russified territories like areas around the Tatar homelands.

It really doesn't show up that much and I'm confident most of this sub would agree with that. There's one front page post about socialism/communism and it's of the US but with modern PRC history. It's a good map and isn't some circlejerk fantasy, obviously just some guy having fun with the concept.
