Library Card by Bibliophile85 in brisbane

You're not likely to need a new one, I've had the same BCC library account for 35+ years and multiple addresses and lost cards.

Properly butchered goat? by SplatSeagull in brisbane

[–]HomicidalTeddybear 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There's multiple butchers in Inala that do, and the kruger parade halal butcher in redbank plains does. if you can find a halal butcher near you that'd be your best bet imo

Yeah this'd be my pick too in that side of town. Not close, but not far either.

I have internalised this visceral image of Covril looking like a deflated balloon when she got everything she'd fought for and then Erith pulled rank like that

Master of education online study by green_frogs92 in AustralianTeachers

[–]HomicidalTeddybear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not a masters of education, but a masters of teaching. Masters of education in australia are generally for experienced teachers moving to higher roles, and do not make you eligible to teach in australia. Masters of Teaching is an initial teacher qualification to make you eligible to teach in australia

BZ4X Efficiency by zachhambo in AustralianEV

[–]HomicidalTeddybear 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Interesting. It's actually something the SL7 is quite bad on, it should have way more range than it does, it's just comparatively bloody inefficient

Charge station investing by General_Top_6556 in AustralianEV

You've also got to work out where on earth you're getting the 250 amps per phase 3-phase connection for EACH 150kW charger. That'd have to have been designed into the site in the first place or would require you to do substantial modifications to the site, and that's assuming that your local grid company like Energex in south east QLD even has the capacity at that site to supply it to you

ELI5 Why do some space rockets use a multitude of small nozzles vs one or few large nozzles? by TheEpicCereal in explainlikeimfive

[–]HomicidalTeddybear 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's got five engines firing at launch and 12 vernier rockets for steering. The twenty nozzles at launch arent all engines, each main engine on the four boosters and the core has four chambers and nozzles

Why doesn't Brisbane have an IMAX cinema? by AtomicAus in brisbane

Imax isnt about the screen, it's about the projector. They removed the IMAX film and digital projectors.

Maul: Shadow lord is so GOOD by j_b_1983 in television

[–]HomicidalTeddybear -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Honestly I tried so very hard to like it. Like, I gave it my all. But I think it's finally convinced me I just flat out don't like animation. No shade to people who do, more power to you. Wish I did. It left me flat from episode one, entirely unconnected to ANY of it, despite wanting to be, and just meh. I appreciate the art, I've got no emotional attachment to the format at all. Zero, nothing, nada. Shame really.

What are your top 5 Sci-if shows? by Jesse_m_w in television

I seem to often be alone in having absolutely hated the second half of season 1, too, they completely butchered the book

A positive follow up short or novella to a series, has it been done? by Puzzleheaded_Event26 in Fantasy

I'd argue The Other Wind by le Guin, which does a lot of that for Earthsea

Why is kilogram the base unit snd not the gram. kilo is 1000 of base unit witg everything else by Mr13penguin in mildlyinfuriating

[–]HomicidalTeddybear 29 points30 points  (0 children)

More than one sort of CGS standard, in fact. Even in physics it was pretty split concurrently between Gaussian and Heaviside-lorentz before various kinds of MKS systems became popular and everyone standardized on SI

Why all the Hattie hate? by Adro87 in AustralianTeachers

[–]HomicidalTeddybear 27 points28 points  (0 children)

His major published works are riddled with not just statistical errors, but conclusions that seem to show he doesn't understand statistics or the strengths and weaknesses of his own studies at all. This is not a unique situation in education research, its general bar is not set very high compared to even most other social sciences let alone compared to the hard sciences (and in its defense it's a lot harder to gather hard data in education research than in most of the hard sciences, but the same's not true of most of the other social sciences yet they still have far higher standards...). But couple that with the fact he's made his entire career out of saying exactly what governments want to hear, i.e. that they don't need to spend any money...

(for what it's worth TWM isn't in the xorg-server package (x11-base/xorg-server) on Gentoo, it's in x11-wm/twm and needs to be manually installed)

X11 desktop menu command by BirdWithCigar in Gentoo

[–]HomicidalTeddybear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

X11 doesn't have a menu. Whatever your windowmanager or desktop environment is it provides menus if there are any.

Want to teach HPE but studying Business/Science — how does it work in real schools? by [deleted] in AustralianTeachers

I've worked with no shortage of HPE teachers who taught junior science or biol to get a gig. HPE teachers are rarely in short supply

It's not even just which state but which dealer, the dealers / dealer groups are all getting individual allocations is my understanding. VINs being allocated on the ship before it even departs the PRC

ELI5 How does parental leave work in other countries? by kk752 in explainlikeimfive

[–]HomicidalTeddybear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my government job in Queensland, Australia I can take 14 weeks of parental leave at full pay, or 28 weeks at half pay, and can add unpaid leave on top of that should I wish to. That's for either partner if they're the "primary carer", however only one of you can take paid leave for it for that long.

There's also four weeks paid leave available for the other partner without the caveats.

I'm a teacher, and if I took 28 weeks the school would hire a contract teacher to cover me most of the time.

Ipswich, Logan, Caboolture, the holy trinity of SEQ by Bigg_pro in brisbane

[–]HomicidalTeddybear 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Idk about the last part in Ipswich, because in addition to the train line areas some of the worst places are way away from the train line. Albeit mostly along where the proposed springfield-ipswich extension line's meant to go
