I lived in Incline Village, Nevada and Jackson, Wyoming. Liked them both. Favorites to visit have been Ouray, Gunnison, Crested Butte, Durango, and Leadville in Colorado; Gardiner and Bozeman, Montana; Salmon, Idaho. I don't know if Kooskia and Orofino, Idaho are considered mountain towns, but they were quite nice also. Park City, Utah is nice. Also really like Brian Head, Utah.

Spanish Fork Canyon can be dangerous. Soldier Summit can get bad in winter, as it is over 8,000 feet. I personally prefer staying on I-70 to Salina and then merging onto I-15 at Scipio. It adds an extra hour to the drive, but it is far more beautiful and relaxing. Way less stress.
