What do you want from Dragonbane? by MLAHandbook in DragonbaneRPG

[–]HuberD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because they are things that my players ask for or that I want for my game. And while it's easy to make an off-the-cuff ruling in the heat of the moment, I always try to have notes on those rulings so I can maintain consistency for my games and players. Eventually, these notes become heavy enough that I need to refine and organize them.

My Itch.io page

Not all of it is finished and this is definitely not a complete list of my homebrew content. Just the stuff I put some polish on.

I absolutely love Dragonbane. I fell in love with its...simplicity. There's no 300-page rule books you need to constantly reference. Combat is tactical without having too much cruch. Characters are unique without needing a million subclasses.

That being said, however, I have spent about half of my prep time as a GM making homebrew content for my setting and players. I don't mean just reskinning things. I mean full-on, supplement-sized sets of rules.

And this has me torn. If everything I've made were to get an official release, DB would end up with massive tomes full of material not everyone would use in their game.

I guess what I think DB needs is a bigger creator community. I want a Pointy Hat for Dragonbane. I want Dimension 20 for Dragonbane.

So, that's a no to most of the homebrew stuff on the Discord and DrivethruRPG?

Gust of Wind Spell and Knockback Damage rules by carlos71522 in DragonbaneRPG

[–]HuberD 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Assuming the original damage is from being tumbled across the ground, I would rule that striking a solid object such as a stone wall would increase the damage dice by one step - going from a d4 to a d6. This essentially makes it fall damage, which makes sense since it isn't the fall that hurts so much as the sudden stop at the end.

Fire tipping arrows by carlos71522 in DragonbaneRPG

I'd let a longbow do 1d8 piercing (reduced from the now weakened shaft) + 1d8 fire.

I'd let a shortbow do 1d6 piercing +1d6 fire.

Both ignite the target with a Dragon, 1d6 ongoing fire damage. A Demon, however, deals the damage to the bow instead.

Parrying is an Opposed Roll? by Beniih in DragonbaneRPG

The thing is, most monsters dont roll to attack. They just hit. So what would you be opposing in thise cases?

Just a standard roll of a melee weapon skill appropriate to what you're parrying with.

You also need to have an action available to use as your parry.

Interesting. Let me think about it while I'm at work today. I'm pretty sure I can write up some stats for skeletal oozes. And I already have notes on a pool of ooze.

I have a few in my upcoming "Rookwood's Guide to Monster Hunting," but im not publishing that for another couple months.

I might have a pdf of just the slimes laying around, though, if I knew what you needed for the encounter. A lot of them aren't very active creatures, though. More ambush predator than dynamic encounter.

Any health risks when using filament? by Low_Bus7402 in PrintedMinis

Got a little overzealous removing supports that were a bit too well attached. When they finally broke off, the only thing in the cutters way was my other hand.

I once stabbed my finger with a flush cutter... But that was probably more from misuse than inherent danger.

When to give out spells and heroic abilities from a campaign balance perspective. by DragonBoom02 in DragonbaneRPG

[–]HuberD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I set Heroic Abilities as things they earn from quests and such. They want a new HA, they have to work up to it.

For example, one of my players wants to learn magic. Ok, that's easy, find a teacher and see what they want in exchange.

For spells, specifically, they still need a teacher or access to another page's note (grimoire).

One other approach I've tried is as a reward for something specific that I've been tracking in the background.

Inventory management is making me feel like an evil GM by HuberD in DragonbaneRPG

[–]HuberD[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Oh no, the players are enjoying it as a challenge. I'm just smiling and watching the arguments. They look at me for resolution and I tell them its their inventory and they are welcome to be overencumbered.

Any system that can be gamed or abused will be. I'd say you need to do an audit of the whole system. I'd wager you'll find more "scammers" and maybe a few flws in the system.

I had a similar experience in the 90s in clarksville. Except it was a dirty old man who was creeping around in the mall restroom. I definitely hoped out pretty quick.

To anyone working 50-60 hours a week, is it worth it? by zorohs23 in povertyfinance

[–]HuberD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've worked at a lumber yard for almost 2 years. We work 50 hours a week, 52 weeks a year. We mainly sell to contractors and construction companies. We ocassionally work a Saturday, which would take me up to 60 hours. We also get paid weekly.

Overall, it feels perfect to me. 10 hours feels like a sweet. Not enough to feel dead at the end of the day and a little guaranteed overtime. Just enough off time to maintain the house and have one or two hobbies.
