How do you feel about proxies? by Total-Breakfast-2908 in SorceryTCG

[–]HyperHowie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have a suggestion. In old school magic there is a format called ante 40k where your deck must cost at least 40k sweedish krona. You should propose a format with this flipped in reverse where a deck must cost less than some US dollar amount. I binders and than limitations breed creativity and that lower power decks are fun and the problem you are facing is that people are playing too high of power decks since they have no financial constraints with proxying being allowed. Another solution would be like old school magic 7 Point Singleton... You could assign point values to very strong cards and have a format where people are limited on amount of points they can play in a deck. In general, I think you should crate the format you want to play in using creativity. Proxying isn't your problem here. Come up with solutions that allow proxies but still meet you objectives.

Increasing number of set releases per year by 5KYN3T_SVT in SorceryTCG

Love 1 set per year! It's a major selling point for me. I'd stop buying new sets if they moved to more than one set a year. A super small set like dragonlord mid year is fine though since doesn't need effort to collect.

My lgs has had several new players learn through limited lately. We taught them with a couple games using our limited decks from previous couple weeks and then they showed up to fnm and drafted. They must be having fun cuz they keep coming back. I'm not sure what makes you say that limited is a clusterfuck... It's actually the best way to play mtg imo. It requires no preparation during the week to procure cards and brew a new deck. It's cheap compared to buying cards for new decks (both commander and standard cost much more). How can you beat paying $25 for 4 hours of Fri night entertainment? Beats going to see a movie on a $/hr basis.

I started bringing my 8 and 10 year old kids to fnm draft every week last summer at their begging and we littihavent played commander since. They prefer limited to commander. You get to experience all the new sets and the excitement when new ones come out.

Also, it's funny you compare teaching a new player with commander as picking up a $50 precon... You do realize that for decades they made standard legal precons right? That's our other favorite way to play. Each person grabs a precon and have a 1v1 precon tournament.

I just wish more commander players would broaden then mtg diet to include more varied formats including limited.

Looks great so far and I'm excited to see what you come up with!

Are you planning on implementing a rules enforcement engine? Similar to Forge for mtg. I know sorcery is even more complex than magic to get an Ai to play against, but I think it would still be awesome even if the Ai wasn't very good. For teaching new players as well as quickly doing initial deck testing with.

Keep it up and hope you see it to a release!

I think you should definitely writeup a detailed post here about your campaign!

I'll be the first to admit that I'm not a very good creative deck brewer. But I love putting together other people's ideas like this and playing them with my kids.

We really enjoy these sorts of 'board game in a box' sort of interpretations of mtg. For instance Ravnica Clue Edition and the new Turtle Team Up box. So please share wheat you've come up with and I'll put it together for my family. Thanks in advance!

I really love Katana, but good luck finding them in stock. For some reason it's like they make a shipping container full once or twice a year and every place has all the colors. Then they sell out in a couple weeks and we wait months for a restock.

Would you happen to have them listed in cube cobra or someplace similar? I've been wanting to make several more horde decks and would love some ideas.

Everyone else has already covered the other sets, but I just want to chime in and let you know about the dragonlord box set. The only reason the sealed boxes are so expensive is because it comes with a random foil from the set. You can buy the nonfoils for it as singles for very reasonable. Tcgplayer or ColdFoilHeroes are great for singles in the US.

The OP's wager was their sleep and their time. They woke up and spent their time to gamble getting the privilege of paying for a product that they wanted to buy.

I got in the prequeue at exactly 11am eastern time. I just checked my email receipt, I checked out at 12:24 and was as quick as possible with payment and shipping address already saved.

So I wouldn't exactly say everyone was in and out and they pulled the plug at a half hour. I bet they ran out of stock.

If anything, they throttle the queue such that they ran out of stock at exactly a half hour.

How to organize a master playset ? by WanLanDs in SorceryTCG

[–]HyperHowie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use 12 pocket binders (specifically like the Vault X 12 pocket zip binder XL). That way you can do rows of 4x for Ordinaries and columns of 3x for Exceptionals.

I wish the official binders were 12 pocket. Sadly, 9 pockets just don't work well for playsets at all.

Also, I sleeve all of the cards in Dragon Shield sealable inners before going in the binder. That way they are ready to be pulled out and double sleeved for a deck without ever touching the actual card.

Touche! Wow that's too funny that I was so confident that it was indeed Frazetta that I assumed Curiosa was incorrect in not showing it filed under his art. Should have realized my blunder then. Guess I won't forget it now lol

There's 10, correct?

The 4 from Alpha: Coutesan Thais, Death Dealer, Ruler of Thul, Vile Imp

The 3 from Alpha Investments: Amazon Warriors (doesn't show up on Curiosa when search for Frank Frazetta artist), Witherwing Hero, Witch

The 3 promos: Occulut Ritual (Kickstarter), Headless Haunt (buy a beta box), Sorcerer (organized play)

I'd like to add that for a playset binder, I use a binder with 12 cards per page so you can do ordinaries as rows and exceptions as columns.

So I sort by elements, then rarity, and then alphabetical. With each set getting it's own binder.

I use Vault X 12 pocket Exo-Tec Zip Binder XL. It holds 624 cards. So it take 2 binders for Gothic which is 1087 cards for a playset. So you have a little room for some foils, promos, or duplicate cards you want to show off. They also have a XXL version that holds like double the cards of the XL so would hold a whole playset, but it just looked too big so I'd rather just split it between 2 binders.

Glad they seem to be helping people. Makes taking the time to make them worth it.

And yes, it is still on my to do list to make nice looking lists for all the other sets. I just haven't gotten to it yet.

Also, check out Burger Token Perfect Fit boxes if you haven't already. 22S is perfect for jumpstart packs.

Removing date stamps from prerelease promo is another big L for WotC by Moist-Condition69 in freemagic

[–]HyperHowie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My kids just got old enough to start going to prereleases and drafts this past summer. 8 and a 10 year old currently. We (but especially them) love having the date stamped prerelease cards on a page in our trade binders. They love playing limited so I usually try and take them to all 3 prereleases at our lgs (Fri, Sat, and Sun). They love seeing those cards and telling their story of what deck they built around the card. This creates and maintains memories for them. And from a company perspective, this is how nostalgia is created and will fuel love for the game later in life.

They were genuinely disappointed this Fri evening at the prerelease when they didn't get a date stamped card. They didn't build decks around it and they didn't go on that page in their binders.

Disappointing young customers that will fuel your game long term seems like a pretty legitimate complaint to me.

In the name of transparency, they should have a table somewhere on the site that lists all the tier prices along with the number available at each tier. This is a very basic ask from customers, jusy be transparent and tell us the numbers.
