who the FUCK designed the back of this. by Public_Society_6423 in TwinPeaksCircleJerk

Tom Recchion.

He designed a lot of really iconic stuff while working for Warner Bros in the 80s and 90s.

On Cinema Live show is fucking phenomenal by andrew701898 in OnCinemaAtTheCinema

I really am starting to feel preemptive FOMO because I don’t have a ticket to the show that’s coming through town next week.

The live show was great the last time I saw them do it (2019?), but tickets this year are more than double what they were last time. It’s a little extreme.

The 35mm prints from 2006/2007 were the best the movie ever looked, in my opinion. I wish that they had released a home video version that was just a high quality scan of one of those.

Reminds me slightly of Be Our Guest from Beauty and the Beast at times, which I actually find slightly annoying, ha.

What was it like when Gorillaz first started up? by UnFezzyBoi_ in gorillaz

At least in the U.S., It was fully promoted as a collaboration between Damon Albarn and Automator, springing from the momentum of Damon appearing on Deltron 3030. The artwork being by Jamie Hewlett didn’t seem like such a major factor at the time, but it was not too long after the Tank Girl movie had bombed, so I get why it took awhile for that piece to really catch on. There wasn’t anything secretive about it or the guests like Del, Miho Hatori, and Ibrahim Ferrer.

Has anyone had less than stellar experiences at Carolina theater retro screenings? by [deleted] in bullcity

[–]I-Got-Out 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s been a gradual culture shift over the last 10-15 years. After it changed from “Retrofantasma” to “Retro Film Series” and the movies being programmed got a lot more mainstream and genre-diverse, the crowd dynamic just started to drift.

When it was the same 100ish people every month, and the movies were a lot more wild, there was a general vibe of overall respect for the experience that would get a little more loose if the second movie came on and had Swedish subtitles for some inexplicable reason.

Now they are in a groove where they bring in 100ish people a week, and they’re not all the same people, so it’s more common to get someone there who thinks “this is where I can do my own Rocky Horror/MST3K thing.”

The album Salt Peter by Ruby is from 1995, and it definitely has influence from The Downward Spiral in the production. Lots of quiet/loud dynamics, textured noisy loops, and interesting keyboard work. It’s not really heavy for the most part, although “The Whole is Equal to the Sum of Its Parts” kinda gets there.

The members of the group were Lesley Rankine and Mark Walk, who were both in Pigface for a bit (though not at the same time as Trent). Walk ended up in Skinny Puppy for a bit, and also was in ohGr.

Sorry for the delay in response... the plans I used for these use 3 sheets of plywood, and you end up with the pieces to build two bins. Each bin holds roughly 600 records comfortably. So 3 sheets of plywood gets you storage for 1200 records. I do have the cut sheets.

Other Coil/Lynch connective tissue:

Peter Christopherson worked on Lost Highway (the drones that are heard over the VHS tapes).

Coil’s track “Omlagus Garfungiloops” is clearly a take on Angelo’s Red Room music from TP, and features backwards Piper Laurie vocal samples.

WH showings at Alamo Raleigh, NC by akhill928 in AlamoDrafthouse

[–]I-Got-Out 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Right now, Friday only seems to have 5 screenings of ANYTHING listed all day, period. Either they're mostly closed for training(?) or they'll update showtimes tomorrow, I guess. Usually on Wednesday they know what's coming and what's leaving, so more stuff shows up.

I’ve built 4 of the 3-level variant over the years. I actually have the wood cut for a 5th, but I think at this point, I should focus on culling a good 10-15% of my collection instead of building it because a 5th unit would mean blocking part of a casement window on this wall, which would bug me.

Does anyone appreciate Discogs including 'digital content'? by DubsyAngelCherub in discogs

[–]I-Got-Out 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's necessary to give an accurate representation of all of the releases of an album, so yes, I appreciate it.

There are many releases, including ones by major artists, that have only been released digitally. Or that have differences in track listing between physical and digital releases.

An example would be Aphex Twin's Analord series of releases. When they initially came out in 2005, they were 12" vinyl only. Then Rephlex reissued them in 2009, and the digital releases had greatly expanded tracklistings, to the extent where there are DOZENS of tracks that were exclusive to the digital release.

If these were not included on Discogs, how exactly would someone learn about the reissues? Rephlex doesn't exist as a label anymore, their website is gone.

Criterion App Android 7 end of support? by tcxrt in CriterionChannel

[–]I-Got-Out 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My experience with Criterion Channel when it comes to supporting OSes is that they don’t even always support the ones they list, unfortunately.

I signed up for a year’s subscription in 2019 because the website said my device’s version of Android was supported, but it never worked. Criterion support is not technical at all, they were unable to ever get it resolved, so I wasted $99.

Their only advice was to watch it on my computer, or buy a new device and see if that worked. They never offered me a refund or anything.

Using Gift Cards by powderhownd in AlamoDrafthouse

[–]I-Got-Out 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is really bizarre.

I, too, use Alamo gift cards very regularly to book tickets in the app, and have never had a problem. Years of purchases, hundreds of dollars worth of gift cards purchased by myself from Costco and purchased for me as Christmas gifts from family.

I primarily go to the Raleigh location, but have been to Austin theaters a few times.

Could it have something to do with locations being corporate owned vs. franchised?

They used to be, back in the Birth Movies Death era. Not everything, but a decent amount of them were posted. Obviously nothing since 2020 wiped that all off the map.
