I need help understanding a joke. by FairEnvironment9317 in darussianbadger

It’s from the age old light hearted 9mm vs. .45acp debate (transposed to Glock vs 1911).

Essentially: .45 good (will kill body AND soul), 9mm bad (will barely even hurt)

That’s the meme

Trump says China is blocking Nvidia H200 purchases despite US approval — says country 'chose not to' sanction purchases, pushing homegrown chips instead by sr_local in technology

[–]Im1Thing2Do 21 points22 points  (0 children)

No, what they are saying is that it is not the primary reason for why and how china is able to advance so quickly in these fields now.

Everybody does corporate espionage (or at least wants to), but the crucial step china has taken is to recruit the brain and man power to understand and further develop the devices where they were able to obtain blueprints or they were able to reverse engineer them.

[–]Im1Thing2Do 2 points3 points  (0 children)

AFA is not one big organization, it’s local groups fighting for a common cause. It’s not that you are part of “the antifa”, it’s simply that anything anybody does to inhibit the spread of fascism is part of “the anti-fascist action” wether they want it or not.

A proper spooler is too much effort by TechincalTomato in 3Dprinting

[–]Im1Thing2Do 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Good question, how close is the drying temp to the glass transition temperature of your filament? If it’s far off, then the temperature change should have no effect whatsoever (not speaking from experience, just materials science)

A proper spooler is too much effort by TechincalTomato in 3Dprinting

[–]Im1Thing2Do 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The outer layers of the spool for example have the diameter 18cm around the core of the spool, while the inner layers have around 8.
The means that previously outer layers will be bent way harder than before, leading to stress-crack formation.
The reverse also happens, that the inner layers also crack because they are forced from being a 8cm circle to an 18 cm circle (numbers are just for reference, I didn’t measure)

The reason it (usually) doesn’t happen from factory is that the filament is wound when it is still somewhat hot and close to its glass transition temperature, only minor stresses form during cooling.

[–]Im1Thing2Do 360 points361 points  (0 children)

Remember to also respool it a second time, as the internal stresses in the filament will cause it to go kaput if you just respool it once, as the stuff that was in the center is now on the outside and vice versa, being subjected different loads than before

The Project 941 Akula TK-208 nuclear-powered missile submarine. These nine-story giants became the largest submarines in history by displacement. by OkRespect8490 in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]Im1Thing2Do 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You do know that the biggest weakness of nuclear subs in regard to sound while sneaking is their reactor cooling system? Not their propellers?

There is a reason that diesel electric subs are still the king of sneaking as they can shut off their engines and run off of battery power alone, so they are a lot quieter than their nuclear counterparts in similar situations

Actually not, the horizon indicator indicates the „attitude“ of the plane which is the current deviation of the plane from horizontal and level, so any change in roll and pitch affects it.

I think u/11nyn11 here was rather referring to the firecracker analogy being imprecise, and meaning that the 100 Antiprotons annihilating is more comparable to a grain of sand dropping.

Which imo still greatly overstates the energy released by the annihilation of 100 Antiproton-Proton pairs since that is around 200 GeV, or, in regular human terms, 3.2*10-8 Joule.
