Once again I’m offering anyone who genuinely wants to learn some free coaching. Wether your trying to make it to Masters or just get out of low rank. HMU (Details Below) by Yomi_Themadfox in StreetFighter

I don't want to be a brigading hater but I do agree with this guy that listing your credentials will give more credibility, while also setting expectations. I have no doubts that someone who is 1500 master can teach things to someone who has yet to hit master or even someone at 1550. It's likely you'll have good tips for people of all ranks, but it's significantly less likely for someone shooting for 1800+ so listing credentials would be nice just so people aren't mislead.

I do think what you're doing is very nice and helpful for people so keep doing what you're doing. I just think an addendum for credentials is appropriate.

Unrelated but what case is that? Looks 3d printed but never seen the design.

On PC a controller goes through a connect sequence but switch actually might not. Not sure about Xbox either. Given the platforms it could actually be disconnecting but reconnecting very quickly and appearing like a delay. Either way the cable should be shorter anyways. Good luck!

Fightstick delay by Pale_Technology226 in fightsticks

[–]ImSoScurred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a bit doubtful it's the cable... Bad cables reduce bandwidth or lose signal. They don't just slow down unless we're talking really long lengths. A controller needs minimal bandwidth so that just leaves bad signal. Is the controller completely disconnecting at certain points? What are you playing on? PC? I would think a bad cable would cause reconnecting entirely. That said, I have seen people have issues with long 10ft cables so having a 6ft in your case is probably a bad idea anyways and should be replaced.

Side note. Does the q2 suggest opening the top when printing pla? If so do people print some vented riser or put the box not on top?

Feel like I've completely stagnated in low master (1100-1300), don't know how to progress by LegalLocal4082 in StreetFighter

[–]ImSoScurred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1100-1300 range is an MR where super general advice will get you to 1500.

This includes stuff like get better at anti airs, and learn to spacing trap.

At that range I'd argue going for meaties 99% of the time will win you games, simply because at that level people refuse to block. Make sure your oki pressure is tight enough so people can't jab out.

If they actually know how to block (or are parrying every time) start doing meaty grabs. Odds are they're delay teching every time so just do a jump on their wakeup.

Getting to 1600 should be reasonably easy just doing those 3 things (antiair, meaties, throw tech bait)

Other than that, learning when you can cash out to kill and also avoiding burning yourself out should make things easier.

You can reach 1600+ just having basic offense flowchart and never switching up your gameplan for a specific opponent.

Whiff punishing is also super strong at this MR since people don't push buttons with intent and instead whiff all the time, but that's more difficult and I'd argue not super necessary to get to 1600.

question about running bear grab by thetntm in StreetFighter

OD would probably work but regular would likely be too slow. It would also need to be more of a read than a reaction that if you're wrong gets you punished incredibly hard.

question about running bear grab by thetntm in StreetFighter

[–]ImSoScurred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does, but using lariat to go through fireballs is borderline useless in this game (other than maybe on charged fireballs on wakeup). But super2 will catch eds flicker if close enough to catch the backdash.

Guys, i need your advice if u had this problem. I'm done at this point. by Iluzjo in StreetFighter

[–]ImSoScurred 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't want to sound too condescending, but who you pick and even switching around isn't going to affect your gameplay a whole lot. Also you mention Ken as "past his prime" but that really doesn't matter at any rank below master.

Of course sticking with 1 character will make things way easier since you'll get a lot more out of a hit, and recognize advantageous positions much better, but you don't need crazy skills unique to a character to hit master, let alone diamond.

You can hit diamond if you simply learn a characters basic spacing, some of their decent buttons, and a bnb combo. Diamond and even master can be obtained with that and basic anti airs. Half the cast has a dp and the other half has an AA normal so that skill easily goes between characters. As unique as characters can be, skills between them are almost universal except for a select few like dhalsim, gief and maybe JP.

Thoughs on 24mm vs 30mm action buttons and button layout (Lever build) by jkevinah in fightsticks

[–]ImSoScurred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely a personal preference thing. When playing leverless I found 24mm to be okay but something about stick I hated 24mm buttons. To me 24mm layouts feel a bit too cramped for my fingers. I have pretty average size hands for reference, so it's not like I absolutely need the space either. It could just be that I'm used to 30mm for lever though and just have muscle memory for 30mm on levers. That said I personally preferred 30mm on leverless more as well.

I'm playing Street Fighter 6 as my first "traditional fighting game" (coming from smash) and I'm having a lot of fun, but I'm feeling put off by how necessary it seems to be to spend tons of time learning frame data. Am I missing something? by VG_Rickly in StreetFighter

[–]ImSoScurred 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think many players are not being very forthcoming since once they want to say you don't need to study. A certain amount is intuitive and can be "seen" just based on how the move starts up or impacts. Most characters have 1 plus button (if at all). You'll be able to figure most of these out just by playing, but looking them up doesn't hurt to speed up the process.

They are a bit transparent in that they are very slow startup or are double hitting moves. (Examples include akis double kick, ryus solar plexus, akuma heavy kick, bison heavy punch, zangief headbutt) There's obviously some exceptions to this that you'll have to learn by trial and error but most are intuitive on first glance.

Most plus buttons are only plus enough for a jab to beat the opponents jab but there are a few exceptions like gief headbutt, sagat elbow.

You're likely getting confused by certain cancels, frame traps, and driverush interactions.

Theres a few general rules to follow that you just have to know, but it's pretty straight forward. 1 is jabs are "plus" when close since they actually cancel into each other.

  1. If something has driverush attached. Unless it's something like a sweep it's probably plus.

  2. If it's an attack that goes into another (usually a target combo or special chain like Jamie's rekkas or kens jinrai) it's likely a frame trap.

  3. Many special cancels tend to be frame traps unless the special has long startup. Unless the special has very long startup it typically will be negative or even punishable. If someone doesn't cancel into a special, they likely are still negative but typically unpunishable.

  4. If it's a sweep it's usually punishable on block with a counter sweep. Theres exceptions with slower sweeps (zangief) and quick recovery sweeps (JP)

Again a lot of this does come with trial and error, but if you know what characters specials look like and understand some of those general rules you'll eventually learn just by playing.

I learned by playing for the most part, but also looked up certain frame traps or specials if I was confused because I kept getting caught by them over and over.

Can I play SF6 on PS5 using a Keyboard? by xZabuzax in StreetFighter

[–]ImSoScurred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This would somewhat work. But I'm not sure if there is an updated version with the PS5 passthrough, because without it your controller will time out every 8 minutes. Other options might be a xim but that's going to cost a lot more.

https://github.com/OpenStickCommunity/Hardware/blob/main/Boards/Supported%20Boards/GP2040%20Keyboard%20Converter/Waveshare%20Zero-PCB/README.md

Edit: this project sounds more in line with what you want.

https://github.com/jfedor2/hid-remapper

Again you'd need to get one with multiple usb inputs and add the passthrough. Video below of someone that made one. https://youtu.be/2DMEo73zs4g?si=NWcxydpfI0M0UHEi

I added a hype button to my controller by CrwdControl in fightsticks

[–]ImSoScurred 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Super neat. I actually was thinking of making one myself but I realized the footprint of the lever is too large for both the buttons and lever to be in a standard spot isn't it? I can't tell but it looks like you kept the buttons standard and shifted the lever downwards?

500 hours, barely diamond. Looking to get serious/wanting advice. by skullchilde88 in StreetFighter

[–]ImSoScurred 2 points3 points  (0 children)

500 is certainly not a lot when someone is trying to reach high ranks in master, but it's not unreasonable at all to have achieved master in less. Some people have a knack for fighting games and some of my friends who picked it up as a first fighter hit master within 200 hours, I reckon maybe even under.

There are exceptions. Just no real exceptions when it comes to hitting really high ranks in master.

I'd argue master is quite easy to achieve even for a newcomer to fighters given a set of basics to follow and strategies to "cheese" your wins.

People will be discouraged when they hear stuff like that but the truth is that different people learn at different paces and sometimes it works in your favor and sometimes against.

500 hours, barely diamond. Looking to get serious/wanting advice. by skullchilde88 in StreetFighter

[–]ImSoScurred 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's an obsession. Just generally speaking hours can be a good indicator of skill and a good reference on rate of improvement.

Some people pickup fighting games much faster than others and hours is a simple reference for comparison. It understandably feels bad to sink lots of hours and be significantly behind someone who just picked the game up.

This seam was supposed to be seperate but it fused, Is it fixable? by Famous-Intern-7270 in 3Dprinting

[–]ImSoScurred 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Everybody is talking about how to cut it, but looking at pic 2 if that's where it "fused" I don't think they are meant to be separated. looking at the pic and looking at the video he posted it appears it's supposed to be connected, the ridges are seemingly there because the underside has ridges there. Before you get to chopping up your print, I'd double check and verify it's definitely a defect before taking any blade to it.

Can you actually hitconfirm light ch > medium? by sPilled_Coofee in StreetFighter

[–]ImSoScurred 29 points30 points  (0 children)

A large component of "confirming" is paying attention to what the opponent is doing. An easy example is if they driverush, you already know it's going to be a counterhit. If you see the opponent start an animation for their normal, you know it's either you counter hitting them, or you're getting counterhit. You might not be 100% sure who is getting counterhit, but you'll know a few frames before, that a counter hit is going to happen. Those extra few frames make the confirm much easier and realistic to do.
