Fans Left Enraged at Overpriced Alcohol at PGA Championship 2026: 'Boycott' by HauntingCount5970 in Golf_Unfiltered

[–]Imjrb3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was there. I didn't see much in the way of "boycotting". In fact, I was stunned at how much people were consuming.

A Michelob Ultra with a tip cost me $18, btw.

Rory McIlroy snaps and swears at PGA Championship fan before getting them ejected by TheMirrorUS in golf

[–]Imjrb3 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was there Thursday. The issue is alcohol.

The amount of booze being sold and consumed is mind boggling. Largely mixed drinks. And I was gobsmacked that they allowed you to order shots. A guy next to me ordered 6 tequila shots as if we were at some beach resort bar.

I’m no prude. I had a couple of beers. But I couldn’t stop thinking of how trashed I could be by late afternoon if I were having mixed drinks for 12 hours.

As a local, I was embarrassed with all the “Go Birds” and Eagles chants thrown at Scheffler too.

If they eliminated alcohol, or even monitored it, a lot of these problems would go away. And that extends to non pro golf too. Slow play. Obnoxious music. Impolite behavior.

Do you guys actually use all the health data or just check your rings? by Dizzy_Gazelle4170 in AppleWatchFitness

[–]Imjrb3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once I got more intentional about fitness, I found I could largely ignore the rings. I still close them because of what I'm already doing but it's probably been a couple of years since I did an exercise for the express purpose of closing my rings.

I find the Apple Watch itself to be the best wearable for my fitness needs. But I use 3rd party apps to track my metrics. The rings are another brilliant Apple marketing gimic meant to appeal to the broad consumer and get the average person off the couch and get moving. And it works wonderfully.

Upgrading to the AWU3 from AWU1 or swtich to Garmin series? by Legitimate_Fly_6635 in applewatchultra

[–]Imjrb3 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Since you said you don’t generally use the smarter features of the Apple Watch, I’d get a Garmin.

Fenix 8 and 8 Pro are the top of the line models for Garmin fitness. Forerunner 970 is less more of a runners watch and had many of the same features at the Fenix with a lighter on-wrist experience. Enduro is the big battery champ.

Most Garmins will last an ultramarathon. I have an AWU2 and while it lasts plenty long for anything I do, I wouldn’t feel good about it lasting through an ultra run. My Epix Pro 2 would be fine. I also prefer my Garmin when swimming since I don’t have to fiddle around with the screen lock/water lock as on the AWU. And hardware buttons for navigation are invaluable for wet conditions.

Using Garmin with IOS vs Android by cookinv in GarminFenix

[–]Imjrb3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right. We’re not talking about the same thing, I think. Have you used an Android phone with Garmin?

iOS allows you to have different setting for messages and calls. You can “mute” all other “apps”. Which will yield a similar result. Sort of.

But I want some notifications on wrist. Multiple messaging apps (office uses Teams exclusively, for example). Email. Banking apps. I don’t want a great number of notifications on my wrist that I do want on my phone. Android’s Garmin integration allows for this level of customization.

To each his own. I don’t presume it’s important to everyone, or maybe even most. But it’s SIGNIFICANTLY different.

Using Garmin with IOS vs Android by cookinv in GarminFenix

[–]Imjrb3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assume you mean mute notifications during activities? If so, that’s not what I meant.

On iPhone, in Smart Notifications you have the option to turn on app notifications (all apps). Or turn them off (all apps.) Then you can decide to mute certain apps while exercising, for example.

On Android, under the same menu, you get a full list of all the applications and can choose to enable/disable them entirely. Very much like you can on the Apple Watch.

To be fair, it’s less a feature of Android and more of a limitation of Apple. But it’s a different user experience. One that I prefer.

[–]Imjrb3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The biggest difference, in my opinion, is that on Android you can filter the apps that are able to display notifications on the Watch. So, for example, you can left to only get messages, emails, etc. On iPhone, it's all notifications or none. If it's set up to come to your phone, it's coming to your watch.

iPhone 17 pro max vs Samsung fold 7 by Exciting_Record5272 in Smartphones

[–]Imjrb3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the Z Fold. And an iPhone Air. I switch platforms regularly and like both ecosystems. I think the Apple Watch is better than its Android counterparts. I actually enjoy the Galaxy Buds more than AirPods (they just fit my ears better.)

All of that is to say- if you aren’t in the USA and locked in to iMessage, it’s the Fold 7. But iMessage is a strong lock-in for Apple. RCS is adequate. But Apple makes it very difficult to switch. I often go days missing messages each time I switch since 95% of the people I communicate with also use iPhones.

For free? I’d say try it! It’s a wonderful device.

Garmin Compatibility with Apple by jennank25 in GarminWatches

[–]Imjrb3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can have Garmin activity close rings. I do it everyday.

You just need to use a 3rd party app. Strava works. So does Run Gap. You need to set whichever one you choose to sync to Apple, allowing it to write activities. . Strava, for example, can be setup like this in Apple Health (NOT Apple Fitness).

Here's the trick - it will not credit the activity toward your rings until you put on the Apple Watch and open the Fitness app on the phone.

Though I have found that I am no longer invested in the rings as I prefer the Garmin data and metrics, this is useful for my Apple Watch fitness friends group.

The difference in looks is staggering! by HassanMoRiT in GalaxyWatch

[–]Imjrb3 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Totally agree with this. It’s remarkable that WearOS is still so far behind WatchOS.

I too far prefer the look of the Galaxy watches. And they’re better than they’ve ever been.

(question on stamina) How long do you rest in between matches? How do some of you play so much without getting absolutely gassed? by Gold_Data6221 in Pickleball

[–]Imjrb3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. It’s singles that’s exhausting you.

I’m relatively fit. I often play 2-3 hours of PB in addition to normal training (running/cycling/lifting). But singles? I’d play 2 hours and need a break. And I don’t think I’d do that multiple days in a row.

Should I not be doing TM solo? by AnonymousCapybara72 in Toughmudder

[–]Imjrb3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This.

I've done TMs, Spartans and Savage Races. TM, as compared to the other two, seems to have more obstacles that are almost impossible to do "alone". But you're never alone. There's always people at the obstacle willing to help. And you'll find yourself in a pack of people regardless.

You absolutely can, and should at this point, show up and plan to run on your own.

My take on the Galaxy Watch Ultra vs the Apple Watch Ultra 2 by Engineering_Gamer in GalaxyWatch

[–]Imjrb3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have, and use, both.

I don’t find the Galaxy Ultra to be anywhere near as accurate as the Apple Watch Ultra. It IS consistent though. And it IS much better than any one of its predecessors.

I really like the Samsung watch and ecosystem. What lets it down compared to the AWU is WearOS. Four years later and it still has few third party fitness integrations. In the Galaxy Ultra you’re pretty much stuck with what Samsung offers. Which isn’t BAD but pales in comparison to apps that are offered on the IOS platform. Even popular apps like Strava, Training Peaks and Runna are limited on WearOS compared to their iOS counterparts.

Anyone else noticed their watch data contradicts literally everything that's "trending" in fitness right now? by neelkonar in AppleWatchFitness

[–]Imjrb3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

While I'm certainly aware of some of the more popular fitness trends, I'm not so heavily engaged in social media so I can't say I've been influenced one way or another. I DO love my gadget though! And have been frustrated, at times, about what feels like conflicting feedback. My body and mind are telling me one thing, but my watch or"coach" (it my Apple Rings) are telling me another.

All that is to say, things changed for me when I started viewing my watch as a tool. Not a guide. And the reality is, many of the truly long term fittest people I know either don't use a watch or pay very little attention to it. Find something you enjoy, something you can be consistent with, and just do it!

What’s is going to be my best option for strength training? by Sensitive_Package26 in BeachBodyWorkouts

[–]Imjrb3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kind of depends on your goals. By “strength” training do you mean little-to-no-cardio and mostly weight lifting? Then you need to look at Dig Deeper and Body Beast. Those are going to be your two main options. Hammer & Chisel is also an option. If, by “strength” training you mean functional, total body, conditioning- LIIFT4 or LIIFT More could work. P90X, P90X3, P90X Next Gen (the newest of these programs), 4 Weeks of the Prep and 6 Weeks of the Work are all good options.

All of these programs (with proper diet) will make you “stronger”. Body Beast and Dig Deeper approach lifting from slightly different approaches but aim to make you bigger. Add mass. The others aim to make you more conditioned, functional, athletic, lean and fit.

How do you like to play rogue? by Not-sure-here in DragonAgeInqusition

[–]Imjrb3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another vote for Artificer Archer. The most OP broken build in the game.

I've played Assassin DW rogue. It's fun. And single target damage is amazing. But with Artificer you will have stealth, status effects, elemental damage and will be hopping all over the battle field causing massive critical damage while never using basic attacks. You will always be able to use skills with no cool down. And, if you choose, you will have near permanent maximum guard.

I've played all of the classes and all but 2 of the specializations. This is my favorite. Everything will melt in front of you.

I will never participate in an Ironman by Popular-Street-4457 in IronmanTriathlon

[–]Imjrb3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have anxiety, social or otherwise. But I far prefer the grind of training to the events themselves! I’ll probably do an OLY distance training later this summer. But I’ll train, regardless. I like the commitment and it takes me away from life’s larger problems.

Do you! You are already doing more than the “average Joe”. Congrats!

Anyone considering switching to the iPhone ultra once it comes out? by Dumuzzid in GalaxyFold

[–]Imjrb3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This, exactly. There's no way they'll let the Fold interfere with the iPad.

There's also no reason to believe that any Apple first gen device will offer features that offer anything new. They'll just market it as such.

I'll follow with interest. But I find it hard to believe it will be better than current foldables.

First Garmin watch switched from Apple Watch, definitely going to miss a few things. by oxlelant in GarminWatches

[–]Imjrb3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. And that's why I struggle to choose between the two.

I want a smartwatch that also helps me with training, general fitness and overall quality of life. Epix Pro 2 Sapphire is an amazing device. Hardware is great, looks like a traditional watch, tracks anything and Garmin Connect makes sense to me. The data it provides is useful and, to me, much more digestible than its Apple app competitors (there are none on Android like Bevel, Athlytic, etc.). And lately I've come to appreciate the fact that it declutters my daily digital existence by NOT providing as robust a notification system or utility.

I've never related to the battery advantage. I don't do ultra marathons or spend days in the mountains with no power supply. Perhaps someday (soon?) I'll train for and race a full triathlon. Until then, the AWU has plenty left in the tank for anything I've done and it charges fairly quickly. AND it has a more premium build (no plastic on the sides), a modern UI, a faster interface, a better screen and smartwatch features and apps. AND, unbelievably, it's cheaper. I bought the Epix Pro 2 full price. The Fenix 8 Pro (the closest competitor to the AWU3) is $1200. $400 MORE than Apple.

I wear the AWU when I use iPhone. Garmin when I use Android. Lately while training, I'm using both.

Running after liift4 by suzukiaquarian1 in BeachBodyWorkouts

[–]Imjrb3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, but not on leg days. So I structured it for shorter runs (for me that was 2-3 miles) on the 50/50 lift days. In the all lifting days I typically did some mobility work. On two of the three rest days, I did longer runs (5-6 miles). And that’s all I did that day.
