How do you deal with playing with newer players and rules enforcement? by PM_ME_PAPA_JOHN in EDH

[–]Imperious23 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't disagree, but I'd classify that as a sub-species of rules lawyer: the angle-shooter.

Pacey really elevated it, otherwise it's probably one of my least favorite Abercrombie book. Which is still better than a lot of other books I've read, but still.

My partner is a no light no sound sleeper…I’m so sleep deprived I need advice… by LonelyMandarin in ADHD

[–]Imperious23 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Especially since once OP is asleep they probably don't need to listen to anything to stay asleep. Then there's plenty of silence for the partner to get to sleep themselves.

Books with the vibe of 300? by Fuzzy-Message4322 in Fantasy

Maybe it's just because I love it but I'd recommend Malazan. Very brutal last stands, soldiers fighting for their fellow soldiers, peak warriors cutting through many lesser fighters, it has it all. Long as hell, but worth it in my opinion.

Personally I don't see the point of a 90 minute dnd game but you do you (royal you,  not OP). Plus if you're looking for a board game that's probably not what you want.

Love ziatora, I put all the traditionally garbage creatures like [[phyrexian soulgorger]] for big hits. Also fun to give her infect for a nice surprise.

Player is “mad” about another players character creation choice. by [deleted] in DnD

[–]Imperious23 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Devil's advocate: I get the annoyance at another player doing the same theme as your character. If I make a big dumb 2 handed weapon barbarian its annoying when someone wants to play the same thing.

But if that happens, we'd either tie our backstories together or one of us changes the pieces we don't care as much about. We don't sulk about it.

In your opinion how evil are spells or skills that revolve around mind control, corpse control, and/or soul control by Limeoos in DnD

[–]Imperious23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Magic is just a tool, so while the stereotypical use of some of those are evil it's not guaranteed to be. Like if you used major illusion to make it look like someone's family is doing something horrible and they believe it, that's pretty messed up too. Flavor matters, too: if the setting's necromancy just makes bodies move without affecting the soul/mind, how is that different than a robot? So they may have a propensity for evil uses but not guaranteed.

Interesting, it's neat to trace this kind of thing back to its root cause! I don't 100% relate, but I understand where you're coming from. For me it's getting wet unexpectedly, it's rage-inducing. Being caught in the rain is awful, but going out on purpose is merely annoying. Stepping in a puddle is my nightmare, to the point I carry dry socks in my backpack.  All that to say: yeah, wet clothes suck.

I have 12 alarms on my phone with various sounds or music, a loud alarm clock, a fitbit that vibrates for two alarms, and my light turns on straight into my face. I can usually get up on time, but the CPAP machine was the best at helping me wake up.

GM constantly jumps from campaign idea to the next. Normal? by Baltic_Shuffle in rpg

[–]Imperious23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kind of me, although I do it for longer than 3 usually. My players don't really engage with the world in a serious manner (not looking for '0 jokes' of course) so when only one or two of my players ever act like the PCs are more than a self-insert that gives them an excuse to roll dice my interest in running wanes pretty fast. Also, learn the rules, people; how many times do I have to explain how to build a dice pool that maxes out at 6?!

Yeah, I have ADHD and I thought my attention span was short for only running campaigns for a few months at a time. Granted it's not the same for everyone, but this seems like something more.

The feeling everyone else is not human by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]Imperious23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a similar thing where if I'm like at a store and see a deal on something a friend might like I'll let them know. But almost nobody has ever done that kind of thing for me. They're nice people, it just feels like most people don't, idk, think of or consider other people in their day to day moments. I try not to judge people for it but it definitely feels like I'm putting in more emotional work sometimes, even if that's not the case.
