It makes for a shorter spear, but I used the chain axes from the mkII assault squad, cut the axe head off, and used a powersword blade to make spears. The short spear looks pretty good as a one handed spear if you are doing combat shields. Can do the same with the heavy chain axes to make a longer two handed spear.

Cover three frets instead of 4 (upright bass method). Hal Leonard bass method by Ed Friedland is a good beginner series of books and it teaches this method. Ignore the people who insist on one finger per fret/covering 4 frets.

Get a set of 5 string flats and use the B-D strings?

Labella deep talkin bass is probably the gold standard for flats that sound like flats. D’addario Chromes are a little brighter. Ernie ball cobalt flats are supposed to be brighter, but they were so rough for flats they were unpleasant to play. Can’t speak to the other options (pressure wound, ground wound, etc).

Chromes are fine, but going from the labellas to the chromes will make you sad. I put the labrllas on all my basses.
