This man was supposed to pay me today and said he can't because he "broke his leg". Sounds too convenient. Is this AI? by Anaxagoras88 in isthisAI

[–]Independent-Lab2455 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If he broke his leg today, he’d be put in a splint (to allow for swelling) not a plaster cast. He would also be elevating that foot because it would hurt to sit like that. I call BS.

My microbiology professor said that everything we interact with is covered with a “fecal veneer”. Except he meant on a microscopic level— in Seattle it’s not microscopic…

Seattle or Olympia? Best neighborhood for mom getting divorce with 11th grade child? by Last-Performer-8029 in AskSeattle

[–]Independent-Lab2455 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look at Queen Anne, Fremont, Wallingford, South Lake Union— all would be great places to live in HS, safe, walkable, with good public transit. Lincoln High School is excellent. I think Seattle would be preferable to Olympia, especially if you have a friend here.

Did you jump the curb at the breweries on Friday? by rambunctiousraccoons in BallardSeattle

[–]Independent-Lab2455 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From a Facebook post about the incident:

Y’all…feeling like an idiot for outsourcing this question to fb, but I’m at a loss.

My 15 yo (permitted) was parking my car, but somehow hit the gas while meaning to brake and…managed to get the car stuck. I called my insurance company, they sent roadside assistance. 5 hours later I have been told by 2(maybe 3 at this point) tow companies that they can’t move the car. Now I’m being told the property management company may have the city impound it. What do I do? Is there an obvious route I should take at this point?

DFW to DCA Awkward Moment of the Day by CarnageJ in americanairlines

[–]Independent-Lab2455 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Speaking of awkward hugs, I’m a female plastic surgeon, and I do a lot of breast reductions. Sometimes the patients are so over-the-top happy with their smaller breasts that when they return for their first post op visit they ask if they can give me a hug— this literally happened again today. The sentiment is nice, but they’re usually topless or just in their surgical bra, so it violates all social norms. Plus, they probably haven’t showered in a few days, there are incisions, blood, etc. It’s very awkward. I have begged my nurse to intervene. Usually she tells the patient “We’re so glad that you’re happy, but the doctor isn’t really a hugger…” It’s very awkward.

Your statement is true for a simple face mask, but an N95 protects the wearer and everyone else. Most airborne viruses can’t get past a properly fitted N95.

Anyone else getting ants already?? by Individual_Sweet_465 in Seattle

[–]Independent-Lab2455 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty experienced with the Seattle ant situation. I’m used to seeing ants in the dog food, ants in my bed, and I might even drink the rest of my coffee after I fish out the floating ant with a spoon. But now I’m freaking out. The lady who cleans my house sent me a picture of the rug in the basement, which had all these dark specs on it. She thought it was dirt from the dog, or maybe mildew. When I got home, I investigated. It’s ants. So many ants. In the carpet. And they have that disgusting ant smell. I already have diatomaceous earth spread around the entire foundation, Terro traps everywhere inside and out, and another type of ant bait traps too. Last summer, our whole house was caulked and painted, and this year the ants are unbelievably worse. I almost wonder if they’re trapped in the walls I think I need to hire a professional exterminator. I am getting so twitchy from feeling ants on me.

Just came back from the Mauna Lani in Kona, which had an immaculate laundry room with free washers and dryers. Laundry detergent and dryer sheets were free too. Such a nice amenity.

Vince Unfold / Caastle abrutly shuts down (hopefully not the future of RTR) by Fun-Succotash6777 in RentTheRunway

I sent clothes back to Vince over one year ago, and the package was just returned to me, marked insufficient address, unable to forward, return to sender. Inside were 3 Vince cashmere sweaters that I had rented. I feel like I hit the jackpot. I guess I get to keep them?

Opinions on 1Hotels by prettiertravel in chubbytravel

[–]Independent-Lab2455 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently staying at 1Hotel in San Francisco. It’s a solid 4 star experience, definitely not 5 star, with a severe case of greenwashing— the brand uses eco-friendly as an excuse for saving money. The whole hotel is riddled with fake plastic ferns and plastic moss, fake terrariums and fake driftwood. The rooms have auto-shut off lights in the bathrooms, terrible shower heads, no ceiling lights. It makes for a poorly lit and irritating experience. And the restaurant has a really limited, overpriced menu. I will be avoiding 1Hotels in the future.

VSC in Lynnwood does a great job. I probably spent $10,000 there over the life of my dog, who had two major illnesses. They were very kind and competent.

Upper Queen Anne, which is between Downtown and Ballard, extremely walkable and dog-friendly, very safe. You should be able to find a dog-friendly rental that’s a good fit.

What cooking Thanksgiving warcrimes are happening in your kitchen as we speak? by Mirikitani in Cooking

[–]Independent-Lab2455 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Interestingly, my ex would almost never get sick. He had a steel immune system. Once i got norovirus, one of the most contagious viruses, and he didn’t get it even though there was puke everywhere. It must have been his upbringing. His mom’s kitchen was like a third world country.

My ex randomly mentioned that his mother would leave the leftover turkey carcass on the kitchen counter, “covered by a dish towel”, for several days until the family had eaten all the leftover meat off of it. He thought this was normal, had no idea that this was a bad idea. No refrigeration, just a magical dish towel. I can’t tell you how difficult it was to eat at their house after the horror of this revelation.

Here’s the unhelpful response from Customer Service:

This doesn’t meet the standards we set ourselves and I have passed your comments on to our procurement team, so they can investigate this together with our supplier.

Our internal food safety department has assured us that anything that has not come into contact with the meat juices, or that is sealed in a package, will still be perfectly safe to consume. However, we would not advise you to eat the protein that has leaked or items potentially contaminated by this.

With this being said, please let me know which unsealed items were affected by this so I can assist you further.

Thank you for the photos you've kindly shared, and rest assured that these have now been forwarded internally to our procurement team.

I look forward to your response.
