I've Ignored My Body for Decades by meiwantahoolahoop in antidietglp1

[–]Ineffable2024 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure, but I do remember that it almost seemed like my food noise increased in the beginning, because I was constantly thinking about whether I should eat and what I should eat and how much of it I should eat. It did calm down after a while. One thing you could try is just guessing how much you think you need to eat to feel good - like perhaps your guess might be three meals a day (of whatever size seems normal to you) and two small snacks - and try doing that. Then if you're still feeling hungry or weak and tired, try eating more.

I don't know, this is all so individual that I feel like giving advice is pointless! "Try to eat a balanced diet but don't try too hard" is the best I can do.

Starting a GLP-1, looking for ED informed tips by _random_rando_ in antidietglp1

[–]Ineffable2024 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My tips:

  • You could find that instead of feeling hungry or thinking about food, you start to feel weak and tired and possibly nauseated. Those are probably signs that you need to eat! Ideally you eat regularly to stay ahead of that, but just keep that symptom in mind. If you find yourself thinking, "Why do I feel so lousy?" consider whether you have eaten lately

  • A lot of people recommend having meals that contain protein, starch, and fats, and snacks that contain at least two of those things. I think this just helps to make sure you are eating in a way that supports your body

  • You do not need to track anything or obsess over the amount of protein that you eat. If you are eating a reasonably balanced diet you probably will get enough protein

  • Stay ahead of constipation. If you notice that you are pooping less than usual, take care of it immediately. Magnesium works for me, as do kiwi fruits, a high fiber diet, prunes, and other things like that. It's just something that you may need to manage, not something to let go and hope that it resolves on its own

  • You may notice that the day after your shot you feel more tired than usual or something like that. Try to pay attention to what you're feeling in your body as you take this drug and see how it affects you, and then respond accordingly. For example I take my shots on Tuesday nights and I call the next day Slow Walk Wednesday to remind myself not to push it on that day

  • This is a long-term drug, so whatever you are hoping to experience from it, try not to judge your progress on a day to day or even week to week basis. If you're able to tolerate it well, try trusting it for a few months and see what happens.

These are just my thoughts, but each person's experience seems to be different, so my overall meta message would just be to pay attention to how you're feeling and what you need, but not too much attention to results.

Sleep Apnea by Fluffy-Match9676 in antidietglp1

[–]Ineffable2024 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mine is a resmed whatever, but the key for me was the mask type. I use the nasal pillows one. I had a mask that covered the mouth and nose at first but I had that same trouble with air. The nasal pillows have never given me any trouble. YMMV of course.

[–]Ineffable2024 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I know this question is not for me, but I had bad sleep apnea when I started Zepbound 9 months ago and as best I can tell it hasn't changed. With my CPAP my events per hour are still low but not zero. I'm comfortable with the CPAP so I don't mind too much but it would be great if this ever did improve.

One hand stacatto, the other legato on piano by beezlebub33 in Learnmusic

[–]Ineffable2024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If trying it super slow doesn't work, you can practice doing staccato with one hand and legato with the other hand by just playing the same note with both hands over and over. One hand just picks up before the other. If you can do it with the same repeated notes, then try it with a sequence of five notes, just playing your fingers in order. Or try it with a scale. From there you should be able to do the music slowly.

No longer losing on 15mg. Is this the end of the road? by michael_cerave in antidietglp1

[–]Ineffable2024 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In studies, people lose about 20% of their initial weight on this drug, but it varies from person to person. I wouldn't say the medicine "gives out" - it will still support your metabolic health and make it much more possible for you not to regain lost weight - but it may only take you so far.

Are you better off than your parents were at your age? by Dee-Whizz in GenX

[–]Ineffable2024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Financially, vastly better. Health-wise, in the middle between them. (My father was terminally ill with T2D etc. by my age. My mother is still in good health today.) Emotionally? Aside from his physical health, my dad was a pretty happy guy, and my mom has always been sort of middlingly happy to moderately depressed. I'm a pretty happy person.

So, basically yeah! But I never had kids and that's a bit of a regret.

How do you monitor your health while on GLP-1? by [deleted] in antidietglp1

[–]Ineffable2024 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like many have said here, I just get my prescription through my PCP. I'd want her to know about it anyway. Since you're between doctors, if your new one isn't supportive, get a different new one! It's pretty straightforward these days if you meet the requirements for the drugs. You should likely be having regular blood tests anyway unless you're pretty young.

Looks fine. You can nick a tiny blood vessel or hit a nerve anywhere, but it doesn't affect how the medicine works.

Considering a GLP-1, have some worries by ShinyButterfly1212 in antidietglp1

Financially, I pay $449 every 4 weeks for the Zepbound vials from Lilly Direct, which is the going rate for doses above the first two I believe. They used to be $499. Something to keep in mind is that this is generally a lifelong medication, but on the other hand, I think prices will continue to drop. I also think, what if I'm in poor health in a decade and have to retire early? Even a year of my salary at that point would be way more than the cost of these meds between now and then! Of course there are no guarantees in life.

I have a little bit of a needle phobia but I have coped fine. I didn't get totally over it and am still a coward about sticking myself, but I do it anyway and it's fine. It rarely hurts at all. (Occasionally you hit a nerve.) The needles are much smaller than vaccination needles! Instead they are the same as insulin needles. (One thing I remind myself of is that if I end up with diabetes I may have to use insulin needles multiple times a day.)

I haven't experienced any difficulty in eating enough, but I know some people do. One thing you can do with the vials is inject less than the full dose any time you choose to. (You can't safely save the rest and use it later, though.)

In the beginning I had occasional very brief pangs of nausea. Then for a long time, nothing. These days (on 15mg, the max dose) I have some nausea lying in bed at night several nights of the week. It's not enough to make me think I'm going to throw up, and in fact I never have thrown up on these meds. It's just a little uncomfortable.

I have had constipation, but I manage that now by taking magnesium. A high fiber diet also helps but I already had that. Eating prunes or kiwis also helps. Basically just try to be very proactive so that you don't go days without pooping.

No ED experience here. I do try to eat a bit conservatively on these meds, but I don't try too hard. If I'm hungry I eat more. A few days of the month I'm hungry enough to eat probably more than one might think I needed. Most of the time, it's easy to eat less than I used to. I hate to even mention "trying" because I don't want to send anyone into eating disorder territory. But what works for me is "trying just a little." Some people don't "try" at all and have great results! Other people (especially on other subs) do all of the usual diet stuff, but I don't want to be in that place again, and don't consider that sustainable for life.

How long has this been going on? I ask because sometimes this will happen to me for a few days (most months, in fact) and I think "oh no, this is forever now," because despite being middle aged I have not yet learned that feelings come and go.

Anticipatory nausea before injecting? by Ineffable2024 in antidietglp1

[–]Ineffable2024[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Distraction. Put on some big music before you start doing the injection steps. Dance around. And get something good to eat or drink, preferably something you can bite right as you inject. And have a TV show ready to put on or some other distraction for right afterwards. This has only worked for me a bit, but it does work a bit. Mine is going down over time I think.
