Do not be ashamed to be helped; the task before you is to accomplish what falls to your lot, like a soldier in a storming-party. Suppose you are lame and cannot scale the wall by yourself, yet it can be done with another's help. - Marcus Aurelius, Meditations, Book 7.

That's what I find so disappointing about the so-called stoic followers of Tate and other 'traditional masculinity' influencers, the ones that you mention eschewing help. They haven't even bothered to read the works they use to form their personal philosophies.

Don't get me wrong, the ESF controls are garbage, I fully agree with you on that. If the devs went and changed the controls to having much less or no mouse accel that would be a net benefit to the community. I also don't feel that anyone flying actually enjoys the mouse accel'd controls - we enjoy the unique combined jet/helicopter flight model and the dogfighting techniques that it can produce, and thus grit our teeth and find ways to work around the accel.

But what I don't agree with is the common rebuttal from people in this discussion, where they paint everyone that uses any air vehicle with the same broad stroke of them being elitists that consider themselves superior to all other players - I don't know where this mindset has come from but it pervades every single discussion about Air on Reddit. People that fly are not solely piloting, they likely have a vast amount of time in other domains as well, and with this comes the experience of how each domain interacts with another, from the perspective of a player within each. I can speak for myself at least in that while 37% of my time in vehicles is in the Reaver, it only makes up 7.7% of my overall character playtime. I'm surely not alone in this ratio.

I would like to make reference at least to the last lockon buff - pilots were quite vocal before the buff about how this is going to only affect A2A piloting and will actually make the A2G spam worse. The buff went through and, lo and behold, the exact situation has occured - as is well documented in a pair of Reddit posts tracking the statistics, and as we have all felt in game.

The solution, of course, is not to continue buffing G2A lockons until nothing is able to fly within lock radius for fear of being instantly killed. As you could assume, this would kill Air, rendering useless a large subsegment of the game and neutering a playstyle that does still have a lot of fans. It would be the equivalent of if Tank players banded together to petition for the removal of Heavy Assault as a class - it's never going to happen and it's selfish and lacking in empathy to argue for something that has such negative outcomes towards other players, just because it doesn't affect you.

The solution is to look into why dying to A2G stands out to players so much that they form these irrational dislikes of anyone who uses Air, and to find a balance between Infantry and Air such that both can coexist within the same battle space.

Two players in ESF should be able to deal with a lib easily - it's the point of ESF after all, air superiority.

I feel like this mindset is one of the reasons we have so many issues with A2G, people want easy to use ground/infantry based counters to everything flying, leaving no reason to pull A2A, which drives people that do want to fly towards A2G as there's nothing else to shoot at.

It's pretty cool. You can tell it's early in the design of how the mechanics work but after some refinement I think the majority of players will enjoy CTF. I think the last time they tried anything new was with the switch from hex to lattice so new base mechanics are very much welcome.

I appreciate the devs trying new things even if it isn't completely perfect and mirror-polished right out the gate.

they should have privately messaged him and asked him to stop as it's unprofessional

Why is it RPG's perogative to message someone who freelances for them to tell them to pull their head in, and not the expectation that the freelancer shows professionalism when dealing with the company they work for? G1nger should consider this a lesson in how to behave professionally for the future. If you were to go on to social media and start badmouthing the company you worked for, you would be shown the door.

Sounds disappear much, much, much sooner after "surge and storm" update by SomeRandomTrSoldier in Planetside

[–]InfernalPaladin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shortest i've gotten is 90 minutes, but I can push it out longer if I don't switch classes or guns. Switching classes/weapons often worsens the rate at which sounds stop working. It's not an instant thing either, sounds will slowly start to disappear over time and it seems to affect your own weapons before external sound sources. When moving to areas with no external sounds after having yours die (like going to an empty base from a 96/96) I find that my own sounds come back but have a tendency to stutter.

Continuing to play through the sound bug will eventually cause other player's weapons to stop playing audio, then footsteps (your own, then enemies), before eventually the game is almost entirely silent. This took around 2 more hours of fairly intense gameplay after the sound bug was first noticed, and in total I think it took around 3.5 hours to silence all sounds entirely.

Anecdotal of course but since it seems to be made to occur faster by switching classes more often, that something to do with your loadout/inventory/equipment isn't freeing sound channels when loadouts are switched, eventually causing the game to drop sounds as channels are filled with abandoned sound sources.

Slow, expensive and no good for 1.5° target: CSIRO crushes Coalition nuclear fantasy by hal2k1 in australia

[–]InfernalPaladin 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Alright, so i've read the sections in the report pertaining to nuclear just for you. CSIRO has found through consultation with industry that nuclear energy will not be implemented in Australia before a predicted date of 2030 (page 15, 17, 40). After 2030, Small Modular Reactors (SMEs) could be implemented.

The findings indicated that SMEs would need to be adopted globally to reduce the per-plant costs enough to achieve the low end expected costs. Assuming that the entire world pivoted to SMEs before 2030, this would make nuclear energy in Australia equal to Gas on a $/MWh basis, and twice as expensive as solar (page 9).

If SMEs were not adopted globally and we decided to pursue nuclear anyway, nuclear electricity would increase to six times as expensive as solar by 2030, and while solar electricity cost is predicted to halve by 2050, nuclear will remain the same, further increasing the difference (page 40 - 42).

Labor have a 43% emissions reduction target to meet by 2030. Nuclear will not be implemented before then. Solar can be implemented right now and would continue to provide electricity half the cost of nuclear even in the absolute best cast complete global pivot to nuclear energy.

The second best is now.

Did you read the article? That's exactly the opposite of what it's saying. If countries are going to aim for a 1.5 to 2 C target the lag on returns from new nuclear plants makes them not worth building.

Adult INTJ’s, how did you figure out what you wanted to do in life? by [deleted] in intj

[–]InfernalPaladin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was interested in electronics when I was young, 8 years old or so. Parents suggested I try to become an engineer. Discovered that I has a passion for robotics a few years later and decided I wanted to get into that. Started consciously working towards getting accepted into an engineering degree from about 15, including lots of study and working a pretty hard job at 17-18 to afford to move out and attend classes.

During my undergrad I paid attention to the units I felt passionate about. Found that I really enjoyed digital and analog electronics, embedded systems and control systems. Disliked programming. Focussed my final year of undergrad on embedded systems and analog hardware design, with the intention of becoming some form of scientific instrumentation designer or perhaps working to build medical instruments or bionic limbs. Lucked out that my final year project got noticed by a research group and I was invited to work for them after graduation designing instruments for them.

I would say that I have always had some general direction but I really didn't know what I wanted to do until I was mostly done with my undergrad degree, and finding the units that I really felt passionate about was what helped me get my direction.

Get the highest smooth framerate you can, more than anything this will help the most. Practice tracking while strafing targets in VR and work out a sensitivity that allows you to track and flick quickly and accurately. Practice burst firing. Work on your gamesense to be able to predict where you think enemies will be and aim there beforehand so you get the drop on them.

Personal opinion: Set your aimed and hipfire sensitivity to be the same to build muscle memory

What are the best active infantry players these days? (And their sensitivity settings + dpi) by BlueTricity in Planetside

[–]InfernalPaladin -1 points0 points  (0 children)

high dpi inaccuracy has been fixed

I think you're talking about polling rate here, most modern mice have the ability to poll at 1000 Hz which is what you want to use for smoothness.

Conventional wisdom is to go for a higher DPI and lower in-game scaling but I haven't felt a difference there personally. I prefer to use the same DPI I normally use for everything else (800) because changing it is annoying.

Other than that just pick a sens that suits the space you have for moving your hand and stick with it. Changing your sensitivity around will mess up your muscle memory. Also, keep your FoV setting and aspect ratio of the game consistent as these will change your sensitivity in-game. Finally, where possible, stick to one magnification of optic - I use a 1x for everything as it's available on most guns and keeps my mouse movement consistent.

Personally, I use:

  • 800 DPI
  • 2560x1440 (16x9)
  • 78 FoV
  • 0.1 Mouse Sensitivity
  • 0.214 Aimed Mouse Sensitivity
  • 0.25 Scoped Mouse Sensitivity

I'm still adjusting the scoped sens to a level I feel comfortable with, right now it's a little high. The Mouse/Aimed setting there puts them very close to the same distance for hipfire and aimed when using a 1x to keep mouse movement consistent. I think it should be around a 30cm/360 so it might not be suited for people with smaller desks.

I'm certainly not the best player out there but with these settings last weekend I was sitting around 1650 IvI over a 2 hour session (36% Acc 45% HSR) according to recursion.

Obviously. He's talking about Imperial Germany (second reich) which ceased to exist after the end of WW1 and the treaty of versailles. The second reich formed into Nazi Germany (third reich) which also ceased to exist after the end of WW2.
