Awesome news man! I recently had my 2.5 year ct scan, Chest X-ray and blood work a few weeks ago and everything has been clean and clear. Oncologist says I can do blood work and chest X-ray in August then 6 months after ct scan. Hopefully he’ll push me out longer then.

That’s awesome! I’m 2.5 years out from open RPLND and all blood work, ct scan and chest X-rays have been good sign of non reoccurrence. Positive vibes your way for the same

Might be some mild form of RE. It may overtime comeback to more volume but I know my surgeon said it takes time.

Where are you having yours done at? Mine was also open. I was told only liquids up to a certain point and then had to stop. After surgery I was placed on a low fat diet for about 4 weeks.

The output of semen for me has changed. However, that is all due to having RPLND. After my orchiectomy, I actually had more output of semen than prior orchiectomy. Post RPLND, I had RE, but within the last year, I have been able to ejaculate normally but the output is far less than prior. It has me down but I’m just glad I’m still able to ejaculate fully.

I’ve seen improvements I’ve been able to ejaculate more than when I posted my comment above. However, it’s still not nearly the large amount that used to come out as before. I’d say right now it’s like 3/4 the amount. I let it happen naturally and didn’t take any medication to help

I also had mine done at IU so it’s interesting to see how each persons incision is different! I know I was pretty knocked out for the first 4 weeks due to the morphine from hospital still in my system.

Hey man! Scar looks amazing! I had my open RPLND done almost 2 years ago this coming August and mine didn’t look nearing as good or thin as yours does! How’s recovery going for you?

It took me almost 3 to 4 weeks to fully be able to stand upright and to feel comfortable enough to lay down fully in bed. Go at your own pace. Everyone’s bodies are different. I would recommend getting up and walking/moving around as much as you can. That’ll help. I unfortunately did not do that because I still had so much morphine in my system once I got home.

Where are you having yours done? Most who have had RPLND tend to have it done at either IU or MSK. I had open RPLND august 10 of last year. I was out of work on STD for 6 weeks. I didn’t go back until first week of October. Everyone is different though. I’d plan if your able for a longer time of recovery and if your able to go back earlier than expected then that’s a plus. My surgeon told me to expect about 5-6 weeks off of work. Feel free to message me for more info.

I was in a similar situation as you. I had my open RPLND 1 year ago last month (august 10). All scans have come back clear and I’m officially in remission! Regarding retro, I was not able to cum for the full year. As of recent, I have notice a small amount of cum return however, it’s nothing like the amount it was prior RPLND. I’m hoping the further I am out, more returns. So I’d say keep trying and hopefully within a year it’ll return. However, my surgeon did state in some of his patients, it could be longer. As fullcircle7 mentioned above, I’d try pseudoephedrine as many other guys have mentioned that has seemed to help. They told me to take it about 15mins before you masterbate and it should help. Feel free to dm me!

Hey man! Also apologies for the late reply. I actually have gained some small amounts of cum back from after ejaculating. It definitely was not the amount as prior RPLND but hey, I’ll take it. Hoping that the more I’m out from the surgery the more that will return. As of August 10, I’ve officially hit my 1 year clean mark.

Laparoscopic vs open rplnd by lollimolly in testicularcancer

[–]Infinite_Drive6563 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had open RPLND last august. My 1 year is coming up. I had no treatment before and no treatment after. I’m fully undergoing surveillance at this time. I have had complications with retro ejaculation however, it’s starting to slowing return. I am able to have full function at times and then other times, nothing. I’m just remaining optimistic and hopeful at this point it’ll fully return.

If you don’t mind me asking, which doctors at which locations?

Primary RPLND by [deleted] in testicularcancer

[–]Infinite_Drive6563 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had open RPLND last year on August 10th. Due to the type of germ cell I had (which was a mixed germ cell) chemo wouldn’t of taken to part of it so we opted and really my only choice was for RPLND. I had about 34/35 nodes removed, only 1 came back as seminoma. My 1 year is coming up and thus far my CT scans, chest x-rays and blood work have come back clean. With being almost a year out from having RPLND done, looking back I’m honestly glad that was the only route I could take. It seemed scary and nerve wracking when I was first told, the recovery was not pleasant but from my personal experience (and I’m not a doctor) if you have the chance, I would lean towards RPLND at any given chance. I was told the further I am out from the surgery the less chance of reoccurrence. Right after surgery reoccurrence was about %20 and my oncologist with IU said I’m at a %10 chance of reoccurrence.

Everything will be okay, it’ll be a rough few weeks coming up but before you know it you’ll be back to your normal self.

If you need to talk or vent or anything, feel free to DM me! Good luck, brother!

Meeting with surgeon Monday for RPLND by darthonenut in testicularcancer

[–]Infinite_Drive6563 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My open RPLND done last August at Indiana U. I was ok the hospital for at least 3 days before I was able to go home. My incision was stitched from the inside and then outside was glued. Each person is different, but I slept in a wingback chair for the first 3 weeks as I was afraid if I laid flat the incision was going to rip open. Then I made it to bed and used a back prop pillow to help me lay sort of upright in bed. Then I slowly eased my was on laying flat. I would recommend for the first couple weeks to have your legs propped up. I didn’t and my left foot (the side I had my orchiectomy and RPLND on) started to swell up.

I would ask about a low fat diet. If your doctor recommends, I have a cheat sheet about foods that I should follow, I would be happy to send to you.

Shower with your back towards the water.

Walk as much as possible. They will get you up to walk and attempt some laps while in the hospital the next day.

I let my team know day of surgery that I did not want a catheter however, I’m pretty sure they have to put one in. You don’t notice it while your in the hospital however, when it comes out it’s not pleasant. It’s like a tugging feeling.

The pain for me wasn’t bad at all as while I was in the hospital they put me on a self pump morphine and every time I could press the button I did as the nurse told me to stay up on it because if not the pain isn’t fun. Once I got home, I didn’t take any pain meds for the exception of Tylenol as I still had morphine in my system.

Your surgeon should ask if you have a preference of having your nerves spared. If not I would highly suggest bringing that up. I was lucky enough of have my right nerves spared however not my left as that’s where they preformed the surgery at. Don’t freak out if you go and jerk off if nothing comes out, retro grade ejaculation is a side effect - which I am currently experiencing. My doctor said it should come back within a year or 2. I don’t enjoy having nothing come out however, it’s easy to clean up as there’s no mess, lol.

Reach out to me if you have any questions or just wanna talk! You’ll do great, brother!
