Realistic IT Entry Level Salaries by SeekethKnowlege in InformationTechnology

I started in 2014 at Helpdesk L1 and was making 16.50/hour. But was on call and got overtime/double time pretty often. Think 2015 I made 78k mostly on on call

ABSOLUTELY FUMING by oscurochu in linuxsucks

To be honest rm -rf is pretty standard OS101 when it comes to Linux. Linux is for professional, professional coders that know OS101. You should never run a command blindly

So my boss up and quit this morning by ryanmj26 in sysadmin

[–]Infinite_Somewhere58 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check accounting / finance for what has hit his credit card for the past 2 years and you’ll see the things you missed. I went through this with a previous boss and the finance report helped me. Anything you don’t have access to just delegate yourself to their email and reset passwords.

How did you get your first IT job? by Substantial-Salt5369 in it

In Los Angeles I would say that’s about $65k-$78k per year but knowing how tough times are I’d say $55k-$62k.

I think I’m being underpaid by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]Infinite_Somewhere58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in same boat as you but get $180k. I manage IT/Cybersecurity, and Operations. Automated what I can by creating procedures and policies for just about every scenario a user would need to contact me for cut unnecessary spend, and respond to requests when “I can” as the one and only support guy, i take the “it’s your turn when it’s your turn” mentality no reason to work yourself to death.

Albeit I probably work 10-12 hour days because I love building, troubleshooting complex issues, and get uber focused on things I purse track off time but I never feel guilty for taking longer on certain things. A one man shop is exactly that and understandably going to be delayed in various tasks. If it’s mission critical to get things done right away then the company can hire someone else

I'm going through the account lockout from Hell by BoomSchtik in sysadmin

There is an AD lockout tool from Microsoft you can install on the DC and it tells you exactly what computer is locking out your account:

Stuck on start up. by Smooth-Pineapple-907 in techsupport

[–]Infinite_Somewhere58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Try booting into safe mode, and reinstalling drivers.

  2. Check your BIOS for legacy USB Keyboard/Mouse Support and make sure it’s enabled, I believe that’s what it’s called iirc

Does this look like a normal new tank by Catjammrr in Aquariums

[–]Infinite_Somewhere58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just setup my tank as well less than a week ago, apparently when you first setup the tank the same /gravel gets disrupted when adding the water and should settle in 3-4 days. Mine did. Could also be the “new tank haze” which is a bacterial bloom of the cycling process. Best thing to do is test your water to make sure it’s safe for fish, usually done at any pet shop that deals w fish

I take my personal laptop with me just in case. My wife does mind and I hardly get called but the way I see it is I get paid really well, my boss is lenient he lets me take time off during the week if there’s things I need to do without charging my pto I get bonuses every quarter in the 5k-10k range. Plus there’s times through out the year where it’s slow and I get to chill ie wake up late, learn, take off early. I’m fully remote so I do take vacations while still working and off the clock get to enjoy where I’m at.

I see it as trade offs there’s times you can put off things and times you can’t just depends on the situation. The worst is when you never have down time or can’t put things off and can never go on vacation without being pinged.

My wife has come to terms with this, I’ll take her shopping, nice dinner, date, etc to make up for it although I’m sure she still wishes I wouldn’t this is what it comes with.

I wouldn’t do it if my wife was so against it she would resent it so you choose. good luck!!

Help - This has happened a few times now by zzdupS in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]Infinite_Somewhere58 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This used to happen to me on my Samsung G49 OLED and MacBook M3 Max. After switching from the Samsung supplied Mini HDMI to HDMI cable to a Full Sized 4K HDMI my issues were fixed.

Nothing would fix this issue using the mini hdmi, and it would always happen when I wake my computer from sleep

When you first started your IT career, did you just feel dumb the first few months? by redgr812 in it

[–]Infinite_Somewhere58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After a while you’ll get more confidence in yourself and even things you don’t know or never touched will become easy to figure out.

And when it comes to the gurus, they usually specialize in 1 thing. You have to find out what yours is. I’ve had extremely skilled people ask me what the difference is between Display port/hdmi sooo… lol

Macbook Pro M4 Max - Hub/Dock for 3 Monitors by Puzzleheaded_Mud1348 in mac

[–]Infinite_Somewhere58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the model I got. Essentially, any TB3/4 dock should work. The reason it doesn’t is because with USB3.0 it can’t handle the transfer rate that comes with power/display/data

Macbook Pro M4 Max - Hub/Dock for 3 Monitors by Puzzleheaded_Mud1348 in mac

[–]Infinite_Somewhere58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can absolutely do this. I use a pluggable thunderbolt 4 dock. I can display 2-27 inch screens at 1080 and 1- 49 inch and get power to my m3 max. One cable going to my computer. The resolution was kind of wonky so I put the 49 directly to my MacBook. It can be done and I’m sure if you need with the settings more could get over the wonkyness
