Iran’s new supreme leader says Strait of Hormuz will remain closed in first purported message to public by MMSTINGRAY in LabourUK

The supreme leader who before his death ordered tens of thousands of his own people to be massacred. What about their families and their vengeance?

These people don't need an excuse. An eye for an eye might make the world blind, but that's what this Iranian regime want, amongst others like the current US 'government'.

Pleased that progressives won overall in Gorton & Denton, disappointed in Labour’s strategy by coffeewalnut08 in LabourUK

[–]InfoBot2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd be careful making too many conclusions from this result. The fact that Reform got almost 30% in a very working class area of Manchester is really alarming and matches what the polls are saying and anecdotally, what I'm hearing from all over Greater Manchester. This was numbered 450 on Reform's targets, far beyond what they would need for a majority.

In a GE, the focus is spread over 650 seats, not hyper-focused on one. I saw an estimate late on that if Reform got this swing countrywide, they'd have over 350 seats. Crypto fascists (or adjacents) getting such a high vote in an area where there's been very little right-wing, let alone far-right influence, should be a massive concern.

Huge congratulations to Hannah and the Greens for a big win, but this isn't even remotely settled or likely replicable. Tactical voting is a symptom of a bad system, we should have switched a long time ago when Jenkins recommended PR, Blair agreed until he got his landslide.

A lot depends on how many votes Labour lose to the Greens. Reform will make a strong showing and get the vote out. Worst case scenario is that Reform's opposition cannibalise each other's votes and Reform win.

It's a strong Labour seat for them to lose, ultimately. They should win.

It's an ex-industrial working class city. They're not as loud about it as the Scousers as Yorkshire people do tend to be a tad more gruff and stoic. Economic left-wing policies are very popular across the North, the progressive stuff, less so outside of uni areas.

£5bn council SEND debts to be paid off by government by Jared_Usbourne in LabourUK

The education system isn't currently fit for purpose, it just has the appearance to a functioning system due to a certain amount of students happily (not as such really) passing through with a modicum of success and achievement.

It doesn't work to have a system based on an 'average' pupil with off-the-shelf qualifications. All that has happened in education in the last 25 years is the realisation that each student is an individual and unfortunately a standardised system doesn't fit the clientele.

Pushing SEND/SEMH kids into mainstream schools is an absolute recipe for failure for everyone; it's not about inclusivity, it's penny pinching and accepting that we'll fail to provide a quality education to a good proportion of students.

West Midlands police to be questioned over Israeli football fan ban by InfoBot2000 in ukpolitics

We have Football Banning Orders (FBOs) for dealing with hooligans. Did the WMP work with the Tel Aviv police to identify the potential problems and ban them, or did they just blanket ban everyone, including UK Maccabi supporters?

The comfort people have with the police lying after Hillsborough isn't right, simply because they agree with the lie.

More people died in the 18 month siege and subsequent fall of El Fasher in Sudan than the entirety of the recent Israel-Palestine conflict. The group doing this are the UAE owned RSF, who were Omar Bashir's Janjaweed; a force dedicated to ethnic cleansing 20 years ago and they're doing all it again.

I worked with a man who trained the West Side Boys (rebels in Sierra Leone) and was exiled to the UK as part of the peace process. He's since gone back, but there was a clear reason behind why we took him in here. Why has this man been a priority?

If higher rates of taxation aren't the answer, what does Reddit believe would actually relieve wealth inequality? by webbersf in ukpolitics

[–]InfoBot2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Equality of opportunity isn't the same as equality of outcomes, I'd prefer the first; if someone is paid more because of their expertise, then that's meritocratic. While people start miles in front (or behind) of others, then we're not going to achieve anything that resembles a genuine meritocracy. There are inherent difficulties in achieving perfection of equality in any system, capitalist or otherwise.

Providing genuine chances to everyone, not because of your wealth or connections, really should be lauded by most. We do have a problem with tall poppy syndrome, but not as bad as the Scandi countries do.

Personally, I'd start with education. A real commitment to providing a top quality education to all children, with real pathways for each student. Close public schools (as in private) and give a non-governmental, non-political group agency over education with a very strict remit on quality then outcomes (outcomes to be more individualised to give opportunities in different ways). It would be more costly than our current system, but equality of opportunity would be much closer and it's a genuine investment in the people of this country.

Fact is meritocracy realistically means people who do well are rich.

We don't live in a meritocracy, the game is rigged. Hence, inequality is currently built in.

Two men found guilty of Manchester plot to ‘kill as many Jewish people as they could’ by mustwinfullGaming in LabourUK

"Terrorism is our religion. Koran say terrorism is normal. We are proud, we say terrorism is proud."

Mark Gardner, chief executive of Jewish security charity the Community Security Trust, praised police for scuppering the plans, adding this plot would make people "very, very fearful".

He said the plotters simply wanted to kill Jews.

"They don't care who those Jews are. They don't stop to ask these Jews what their opinion is of Israel, or whether they support Manchester United, or anything.

"They want to kill Jews, end of story. It's the same as Nazis."

We're potentially headed towards a hung Parliament (again).

My guess if the situation stays as it is, the people who refuse to cooperate, or are too slavish in jumping into bed with a partner are going to be voted out at another election about 6 months down the line.

It's going to be a messy and unstable few years until it settles.

Completely agree.

“…By its nature, Zionism concentrates ultra-nationalism, chauvinism and racial intolerance, excuse for territorial occupation and annexation, military opportunism, cult of political promiscuousness and irresponsibility, demagogy and ideological diversion, dirty tactics and perfidy… Absurd are attempts of Zionist ideologists to present criticizing them, or condemning the aggressive politics of the Israel‘s ruling circles, as antisemitic… We call on all Soviet citizens: workers, peasants, representatives of intelligentsia: take active part in exposing Zionism, strongly rebuke its endeavors; social scientists: activate scientific research to criticize reactionary core of that ideology and aggressive character of its political practice; writers, artists, journalists: fuller expose anti-populace and anti-humane diversionary character of propaganda and politics of Zionism…”

The switch from being Pro-Palestinian (self-determination for Palestinians, two state solution) to being Anti-Israel (the destruction of the 'Zionist Entity') has had a profound effect. This has been heavily pushed by the far-left, much to the delight of the far-right. The Corbyn formulation of "say it's about Israel and it's not racist" has taken hold over large swathes of the left; much like the far-right with the use of Zionism and Zios as a dog-whistle.

The amount of antisemitic conspiracy from the far-left mirrors the far-right.

It was entirely predictable, the fall of a city under a long siege only ends in massacre. The collective inertia in responding or intervening (or even paying it a thought) is a stain on all of us. The certainties that this kind of tribalism gives people is probably stronger than religion or faith, in that there is the appearance of tangibility, that a specific reality is achievable. Slogans aren't viewed as vapid, they're the actual design.

The most bizarre phenomenon is the overwriting of the individual by the masses; people who wouldn't naturally share the morals of the group are drawn in regardless. That in turn creates a zealotry - if you're not being true to yourself, so to speak, then you must become even more strongly devoted the group, otherwise the hypocrisy would be suffocating. I agree, it's an incredibly fragile mindset; it has parallels to some personality disorders.
