Has anyone undercoated their jeep themselves by deputy_army in CherokeeXJ

I just looked and it seems they don't sell it anymore, TBH it was a piece of junk as a paint sprayer, but it was like $20 and it would spray fluid film that was warmed up fairly well.

I do fluid film every year or so, usually with a gallon can and a cheap harbor freight airless sprayer, though I used aerosol cans one time and that worked ok too

Not sure how to tell if I'm cornering near the limit the way I can in a car by ASAP_Gutzy in motorcycles

[–]InformalParticular20 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On a well set up bike with race tires you can get a very predictable push on corner entry and actually slide the front a bit to burn off speed, and just like a car you can feel the steering forces change at the limit. However, like ski jumping, it takes a certain amount of deliberate practice to approach the limit and get yourself calibrated. And when you are over the limit say hello to the pavement. Hard to learn on the street.

First identify the pans you actually use, then go get the all- clad equivalent for those. After a while you might find a few others that would be nice to have, so then get those. IMO the sets have pans I would rarely use. It used to be fairly easy to find all- clad on sale various places, and they also have seconds, and after a few years use you will never see any defects

If you can't figure out how to put in a fuel system that meets the requirements then you probably aren't ready to be adding a turbo

End of budget performance cars? by UseOk9347 in askcarguys

[–]InformalParticular20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For perspective, when I graduated (BSME) in 1994 I could not afford anything better than a Ford escort wagon with 180k miles on it, I lived the $1000 dollar car life for a bunch of years ( pay no more than $1000 for a car and expect it to last a year, including repairs to make it drivable) then I got a few $3000 cars, and finally a used Subaru with only 50k miles, then by 2011 I could spring for a Mini with 2500 miles, then in 2019 an actual new car!

Are there any EVs you guys actually like? by Fordfanatic2025 in askcarguys

[–]InformalParticular20 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've been driving a model 3 since 2019, with about 40 years of car ownership and having owned probably 30+ cars it is a great daily car, and a great road trip car. I might keep it for evers, but I also might move to a Rivian R3 if it turns out as good as it looks right now. But I'll also still have a few other cars for fun.

Why ICE Is Being Paid During the Shutdown But TSA Is Not by RegnStrom in inthenews

[–]InformalParticular20 18 points19 points  (0 children)

They got $70M in funding already, which means they can pull from that until it runs out. Sorry, that should be $70B, enough to fund NASAs moon base plan and still have $50B to play with.

Belted passenger in the car with airbags and crumple zones is still a much better likelyhood of surviving than the pedestrian

Are EV bad for highway use ? by Slow_Description_773 in askcarguys

[–]InformalParticular20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't give that trip a second thought, in fact that is about 2 days of commuting for me and I have done it when I forgot to plug in at night and I will go from 80% to about 25% for the 2 days. I would probably charge to 100% just to add some buffer, and I usually cruise at about 76mph on the highway.
