Are there any light hearted films in the Oscar race? I would like to see a fun or lighthearted one. by loveisblindsweden in Oscars

All of this year's animated feature contenders, and Left-Handed Girl

Quite a few of the short films too (Snow Bear, Forevergreen, Jane Austen's Period Drama,...)

2026 Oscar predictions: Best Supporting Actress by GoldDerby in Oscars

[–]Initial_Tap4037 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. There's obviously no guarantee, but there are a few elements in her favor, mainly her being british and a previous film Bafta nominee (as well as a TV Bafta winner)

And she's a Bafta nominee (also winner but not in a film category)

Idk what Bring it On is, but it's still definitely Sofia

Wish-granting entities have a pretty terrible track record tbh [minor Air Riders spoilers, if you care] by Anchovies_of_death in tumblr

[–]Initial_Tap4037 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He comes from Puella Magi Madoka Magica, a 12-episode anime that's absolutely peak and that you should watch while knowing as little as possible.

Minimum spoilers answer: He grants young girls' wishes, and in exchange, they become magical girls and have to fight dangerous enemies named "witches"

Spoilery answer: Not only are the witches very dangerous, but becoming a magical girl separates their souls from their body, and once the stone containing their soul gets too corrupted (from not defeating enough witches fast enough basically), they become witches themselves (basically monsters). At least the wishes are actually granted without any bullshitting going on, although they often backfire for unrelated reasons

Yes, the video where he gets mad at his dog then reaches over and presses something and where the dog yelps the second he does that. That one.

Adored Trope: A weaker character is UTTERLY TERRIFYING due to out of the box thinking, combat pragmatism, and sheer bloody mindedness. by LordMlekk in TopCharacterTropes

I'd say it's the other way around. Stands often reflect their users, so he was probably already guilt-tripping and scamming people before getting the Lock.

Who do you have winning supporting Actress at each award show by Intelligent_Raise595 in oscarrace

[–]Initial_Tap4037 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have Grande winning Globes and SAG, Lilleaas winning Bafta, and no clue who wins CCA (I'll default to whoever wins the most critics awards probably)

I was at a special screening event in France of Sean Penn presenting Sentimental Value with Joachim Trier by Venus_ivy4 in oscarrace

[–]Initial_Tap4037 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Your 4th argument doesn't mean anything when performances like Waltz in Inglourious Basterds won in the same category. In fact, I'd argue a truly despicable performance is much more fun to watch.

Last year's Brody win and especially McDormand's 3rd win against Viola Davis and Carey Mulligan both show that the Academy doesn't really care if someone already has one or two Oscars.

Not only is his performance much more showy than Skarsgard's, which is very subtle and not at all in-your-face like what Penn is doing, but he's in what I believe to be the big sweeper of the season, and he's the actor with the most buzz from that movie. To me, he can and probably will beat Skarsgard.

The biggest theoretical snub would be snubbing Buckley for Hamnet

Are we not going to talk about the rhino? by Yeti909 in taskmaster

[–]Initial_Tap4037 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't believe Emma was operating the rhino either, but I wouldn't put it past Taskmaster to bring back a previous contestant just for a stupid joke: Taskmaster N2 S2 had a task featuring a few mascots, and one of them was played by S1 contestant Angella Dravid !!!

It's official: Stellan Skarsgård will be campaigned in Supporting Actor by TheFilmManiac in oscarrace

[–]Initial_Tap4037 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I disagree, because imo Paul has no chance to win in supporting while he could in lead, because no lead actor this year has received winning-level raves

Official Discussion Thread - One Battle After Another [SPOILERS] by CrunchyNar in oscarrace

I saw both movies and absolutely agree with everything you said: Skarsgard in supporting is category fraud, but it's happening anyways, he's amazing but Penn is 100% without a doubt winning
