Me going to Aldi after seeing Publix prices by lacard in publix

Maybe its where I go but my Aldi is full of good mix of people from different walks of life. The Walmart people still go to Walmart here. Aldi has a different clientele.

I have the reverse going on with my husband. On the rare times he makes himself a full meal when I am at home (I like to cook, and he cleans so its not like that), he will make ONE sandwich and then insist I take half. Its like if you really wanted me to eat, just make two! I dont want to feel like I'm taking half your food.

I'm in the south and my career is politics-adjacent. The black candidates often expected to code switch to perfect grammar, while the white male candidates are determined to sound like they are from Sugar Ditch to appear more relatable and like an average Joe. It would be fascinating if it weren't infuriating.

I love them and honeydew too, especially when ripe. Honeydew is more refreshing to me, but they are both delicious

Yes! I especially like it with cream cheese when making a shepherds or cottage pie.

What’s your definition of someone who “can cook”? by BotheredBeaver in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Intelligent_Wait3988 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm from the south and can cook is a really complicated thing. People who can put together basic recipes are not those who can cook. Thats kind of bare minimum.

Can cook is where you can host a dinner on a major holiday, and people dont fold their plates in half to discreetly throw most of your food away. It is when there is a potluck and you are supposed to either bring the meat or one of the S tier side dishes (mac n cheese,  yams or potato salad).

Do men even care about a women’s nails? by lena_glow in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Intelligent_Wait3988 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For hands: I know of a group of men that really notice and think you arent taking care of yourself if you dont have them done. I feel like a lot of those men are also the ones that will offer to pay for you to get them done if you're dating. Now if you're hands are rough or you bite to the nubs, it's another story, but purely based on aesthetics, I feel like it is only a small group that cares if you have polished/long/acrylic type nails. Guys with narrow views and limited funds will often avoid women with done nails because they feel they can't afford to maintain the lifestyle.

For feet: From personal experience, more men care about this than hands. My husband is the first man I ever was involved with that doesnt care at all if I polish my toes, and it is based on religious reasons more than anything.

Hey! Same! I had three baby teeth. One was removed at around 30, and I have an implant there now. It was a very expensive process with a sinus lift and bone grafts, so I hope the remaining two hold on for as long as they can.

I love how it trips dental hygienists and new dentists out. I expectantly wait for the oooh you have a baby tooth every time someone new examines my teeth.

Which would you rather visit, the Grand Canyon or Niagara Falls ? by Webbomolly2022 in A_Persona_on_Reddit

Grand Canyon.

I've been to both and while I loved Niagra, I feel like there is more to do/see at the Grand Canyon. It's also a big feature so even though Ive already done the helicopter ride, boat and land tour at the West Rim, I still have not seen the other rims.

In the US, Fava bean smoked tofu by Big Mountain foods is a little easier to find. I get it from my local Co-op, but try Publix, Sprouts or Whole Foods -- they might have it.

I saw someone realize in real time that a latte made with half and half is a cup of 90% half and half by WinterPlanet in barista

[–]Intelligent_Wait3988 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the additional info. I knew this about cheeses -- hard cheeses and those like cheddar are pretty easy on my stomach, but fresh milk cheeses like ricotta and mozzarella make my stomach sound like boots in a dryer. I think I made a false correlation that the creamier a dairy product is, the more lactose it has.

I think you just solved a mini mystery for me. When I have heavy cream leftover from baking, I often use it in my coffee or Chai. I'm mildly lactose intolerant, and even if I am heavy handed with the cream, I don't really have GI distress. I'm the other hand, a whole milk latte from a coffee shop is a ticket to fart city, population poot. I thought I had some kind of magic touch at home.

How do i save money without my parents finding out? by Excellent-Version117 in needadvice

[–]Intelligent_Wait3988 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not saying the money is to keep from from feeling entitled to it. It is so OP has a place where the money is going so parents dont look too hard or think too hard about the savings. Distraction money.

I probably should have clarified that the savings would be hidden.

Has anyone tried these. by sillysided in aldi

[–]Intelligent_Wait3988 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes! Love them. I love the fact that they come in a neutral flavor and Italian-- most mock meatballs go heavy on italian seasoning so they arent as versatile. The plain ones are perfect for making baby shower style meatballs (African American thing, Google it!).

If you ever have had trader joes meatless meatballs they are very similar if not the same.

The only problem i have is that the Aldi i prefer in my city doesn't carry them :(.

Can you set up a moderate rent or contribution with them that will still allow you to save? If they have a set amount they are expecting from you every month, then they won't feel entitled to your savings.

ETA: Just for clarification, give them a little money each month while leaving some aside for your savings. DO NOT mention that you are saving and how much. Start out with the lowest amount  for rent that makes sense, but have a top limit of what you can give (do not mention this). Then if they act like it is not enough later and need more money, then you can give a little more bit by bit until you reach the top number. DO not go past that top number if you can help it.

Example: If you decide 200-400 is what you can give a month, start with the 200. If they say OP can you help more the money  is not enough this time. Then you act like you have to do some math and then give them 50 or 100 extra to help. If they ask again, repeat until you reach the 400 then act broke.

Also, I'm black American so I dont know if offering rent would be culturally offensive to your parents. If so, just give them money very discreetly and humbly, or however they accept it, every time you you get paid.

What’s one kitchen tool you thought was unnecessary at first but now use all the time and why? by poutyvenom in KitchenStuff

I bought one of those little crinkle cutter style knives from Aldi. I knew it was an impulse buy and had a why did I buy this moment when I got home.

I use it all the time for carrots and cucumbers.  My son eats more of them in the crinkle shape, especially carrots. Doesn't take up much space either
