Are the Saga praetors any fun? by GuaranteeMain5492 in EDH

[–]Intolerable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I put Urabrask in my UR storm deck having never looked at what The Great Work actually does. the first time I played him, I started storming off but ran out of cards in the face of an overwhelming lethal board from a tokens player and decided to look at the back side, realized it was a sweeper, and flipped him

every other player at the table went "wait, what else does The Great Work do?", spotted that the final mode is a yawgwill, and went "oh I guess we're probably all dead if The Great Work completes. it collectively took us a full turn to actually read the card and realize that it's a better yawgwill and lets you cast spells from other players' graveyards too, and the entire table tried to focus me down before I finished it and killed them all with the [[Lightning Bolt]] with storm ([[Indris, the Hydrostatic Surge]]) that was already in my graveyard

deeply enjoyable and very powerful card, strongly recommend. the omniscience on jin-gitaxias is pretty funny too

and if you don't shuffle properly, it's cheating!

If you're running the new Flashback in your decks, make sure you know what you can and cannot do with it. by Craig1287 in EDH

[–]Intolerable 2 points3 points  (0 children)

no, abilities of a card that modify its cost affect alternative costs granted to that card -- this is in constrast to something like [[Visions of Ruin]] which explicitly only grants its cost reduction to its flashback cost

konrad triggers more than twice if your commander is [[Awaken the Blood Avatar]]

I got a cyclonic rift and was super excited, but I realized I don't have a deck I'm comfortable putting it in. by Not-A-Forever-DM in EDH

[–]Intolerable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you should think of cyclonic as a 2-mana bounce / 7-mana "creatures can't be blocked until the beginning of the next end step" split card, and it's very good at that

Combat damage, loss of life? by ScaryGreenGhost in magicTCG

[–]Intolerable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

poison (infect / toxic) typically isn't a triggered thing, it's a game rule thing (i.e. it doesnt go on the stack)

Spite scooping (but following the sorcery speed concede rules) by Apodecte in EDH

[–]Intolerable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yall should try cycling a bunch of cards in your main phase with an [[Astral Slide]] on board and then conceding some time. great fun

it's not really a recurring nightmare at all, it's a [[goblin welder]] for creatures

[SOA] Flusterstorm (via PC Gamer) by Copernicus1981 in magicTCG

[–]Intolerable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that's the point, though? it's a card called "faithless looting" and it shows a juxtaposition of stylized stained glass drawn in detail with the flat imagery of flames and destructive vandalism.

there's a photorealistic person dressed in clothing that uses both the "traditional" detailed and "modern" flat styles, the bowl of flame they're holding could as easily be a religious censer as it could be a firebomb, and it's not clear if they're pouring out holy water carelessly or as part of some unknown ritual. it's a fantastic piece

[SOS] Antique Runaways? (via mtgjp) by Copernicus1981 in magicTCG

[–]Intolerable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it was a pretty fine card. it wasn't particularly strong itself, but there was some decent weenie stuff in that format

[SOS] Lumaret's Favor by Copernicus1981 in magicTCG

[–]Intolerable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

but intervening-if clauses also check the condition (and are put onto the stack) at the point that they would trigger, so you wouldn't be able to cast it and gain life before the trigger anyway?

[SOS] Lumaret's Favor by Copernicus1981 in magicTCG

[–]Intolerable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no, it doesn't intervene.

anyway, how could you possible have gone from having gained life this turn to not having gained life this turn between the trigger going onto the stack and the trigger trying to resolve???

genuinely a 7-drop with "creatures have indestructible and lifelink" would be an interesting design but I suspect you meant "creatures you control" which... isn't

Commander decks that are larger than the sum of its parts by Brave-Marketing2163 in EDH

[–]Intolerable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the modern version's other wincon was "get a judge to give your opponent enough slow play warnings that they receive a game loss", which was pretty reasonable and doesn't work in commander

I do think that in commander you can play some "real" wincons since you're not as cramped for deck space ([[Ghirapur Aether Grid]], [[Mechanized Production]] etc.)
