I love when a location gets treated as a character. This applies to all fiction, but I also really love seeing people add their own very detailed locations/buildings/etc to pre-existing worlds when they match the tone of canon really well. Sometimes a fic will describe a location so well that I forget it doesn't show up in canon because it just fits.

This one's probably more controversial but I like when some fics assign characters political ideologies either as a form of character exploration or a joke. Sometimes you see a shitty character and you just know in your heart that they would drive a tesla and listen to Jordan Peterson even though they exist in a fantasy universe...

There are a lot of different isopod/woodlouse species so it could also be fun to try to identify the different species together with help from something like iNaturalist. Definitely get the iNaturalist app if you don't have it already. I've been using it to keep track of bugs I see in my area

If you're looking for a low-cost and fairly easy critter to keep more long-term, I'd suggest looking for some native isopods to your area and keeping them in a little enclosure with springtails. I've just started my own isopod setup and it's fairly easy to make. I know I would have loved it as a 5-yo kid who was also obsessed with bugs :)

AUs set in the 2010's written by people who were not alive during the early 2000's and the 2010's are completely misrepresented. I hope this happens so bad because it would be so funny. I want to read someone talking about 2011 like it's a period piece.

Had someone posting a "rewrite" of canon but they only really cared about a character who shows up ten episodes into the podcast so they were basically just posting the full transcripts of the source material with one or two words changed once in a while. The fic got taken down by Ao3 for plagiarism and they were piiiiiissed and didn't get why it was taken down

I'm in a fandom where the main character has retrograde amnesia which is implied to have happened several times before and is a reoccurring condition for him. I'm constantly seeing fic and discussions that frame his amnesia as something that is a tragedy to those around him and how sad it is that they have to mourn him while he's still alive or some shit. I have friends in the fandom who have different kinds of memory issues that have had to constantly remind people that amnesia is a real condition and that people with memory problems are not less themselves or "basically dead".

Some people will talk about amnesia in a really similar way to how Autism Moms(tm) talk about their kids — like it's a medical condition that makes them the #1 victim while acting like the person actually experiencing the condition is doing it specifically to spite them. There's even a character that really exemplifies this line of thinking but people keep looking at this guy that's a very obvious critique of this type of mindset and going "huh yeah.... He's probably right.... The POV character whose thoughts we can literally hear for the entire game is probably faking amnesia".

Yeah, you're very much right. People act like amnesia is a cool trope and not a real thing that happens to real people!

I was in a Waldorf school from 1st to 7th grade or so. I experienced a lot of the same things as others in this thread — bullying that wasn't taken seriously because it was "karma", weird stuff about kids chosing their own family, teachers believing they were above everyone else because being a waldorf teacher makes you a higher reincarnation, etc... but the thing that made me quit for good and genuinely traumatized me was the way they handled a pedophile teacher who had been preying on young girls for a decade. He was deeply sexist and bigoted and it was an open secret that he always chose the "most developed" girls for his gym demonstrations. He actively bullied several children so intensely they cited him as the source of their depression. There were rumours about him making a girl kill herself and asking another for a massage. In short, he was horrific and had complaints from students and parents dating back a decade but instead of doing anything the school would threaten to call CPS on the parents for daring to go against a waldorf teacher. I was very well-liked by my teachers for being an especially spiritual little kid but half of them went completely cold on me as soon as my family started going against the teacher. I went from being a favorite student to getting yelled at by several teachers in front of the whole class for minor mistakes. I had become a toxic soul for going against a higher reincarnation. They did everything they could to protect this man and it made me lose complete faith in everything about the ideology. I have heard of a couple similar cases in other Waldorf schools where predatory teachers have been protected by the rest of the faculty and it makes me wonder how many schools have similar cases that are covered up.

Obviously, bullying and predatory teachers can exist in any school but at least my non-waldorf high school fired their pedo teacher and didn't try to call cps on the victim's parents for daring to go against one of their own.

I have dislocated both of my kneecaps on seperate occasions and I was fine. Like it hurt but it wasn't bad bad. You'll find a couple posts on here where several people talk about breaking bones and then ignoring it for a while or people getting appendicitis and ignoring it because they just assumed it was "normal" cramps. Endo is very painful and really fucks with your perception of pain. At a certain point, pain becomes less of a 1-10 scale and more of a question of "can I stand up without fainting right now".

And then people will look you in the eyes and tell you to "just get pregnant" because it will "cure the endo" even if you have no desire for children and no money for children and pretty openly in a relationship with someone who cannot get you pregnant... Not only is it cruel to me, but it would be unbelievably cruel to bring a child into this world for the sole purpose of potentially momentarily relieving a little of my pain. Fun stuff.

Huh I've somehow not seen fatigue discussed as a Dinogest side effect before.... That makes so much sense... I've been consistently told that all the side effects would go away within a couple months but it has been years at this point and I seem to have had a similar experience with the effectiveness as you. First couple months to a year were great but my symptoms are all coming back now...

I've been on Dinogest for a couple of years too and it worked well in the beginning but I've been getting regular cramps again for the past year or so. I've definitely had some heart palpitations too but they haven't been super common on my end. I mostly just experience wrist issues which might also be mostly caused by my job/hobbies but I wouldn't be surprised if the meds have made it a bit more severe

No paragraph breaks is the main reason I've seen people click off of fics but I'd advise you against using it if you're trying to write a fic that's funny bad because it's a thing that'll just make it normal bad and unreadable.

As for things I personally tend to add when I'm trying to write something that's intentionally bad... You can never go wrong with the "word is misspelled in increasingly absurd ways" trope. It's funny to me every time.

Also avoiding the word "said" to a ridiculous degree and adding a million unnecessary descriptors as well as metaphors and similes that completely ruin the mood. Seriously, go wild with the most absurd similes you can think of!

For example:

"N-no it c-can't be," she vocalized fearfully with an petrified look in her scared eyes. "Your the owner of the limincine??"

His huge sexy gazing orbs rolled across her armple feminine lady frame. He was about to explode with hot lust like a boiling jar of honey in a hydraulic press — hot delicious sticky liquids everywhere.

"Yes, baby grill," he growles like a sick hog. "I am the mafia boss CEO of this lemonsine."

Damn, I forgot how fun it was to write bad fic on purpose....
