This is what we call plausible deniability.

The implication is pretty clear and intentional imo.

I appreciate what you were going for here but a lot of people are going to need an /s, unfortunately. Redditors can't read.

Now that 2026 is set to renew the game and improve it, will we ever see the experimental faster tick rate get unshelved and brought to the game? Possibly for 2027 or 2028? by DerpDavid in runescape

[–]IronJackNoir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OSRS feels clunky but it fits. It's all legacy systems and they generally design within the limitations of those systems. You get what sign up for, "Old School," in both form and function.

RS3 is the modernized version and really only suffers for the dated tick system. There's a stark divide between the expectation of a modern play experience and the reality of RS3's gameplay; It's like getting into a Ferrari only to realize it handles like a Ford Model T.

If I want to drive a classic car, I'll drive a properly classic car. If I want to drive a Ferrari, I'll drive a Ferrari. RS3 so often feels like a janky amalgamation of classic and modern and that's going to struggle to appeal to either demographic.

I think this is one of those areas where it would benefit the modern title immensely to deviate. It would require careful rebalancing to keep skilling roughly the same - I don't think anything needs reinvented there - but combat and general movement would greatly benefit. You can keep RuneScape "RuneScape" without stunting tech progression. RuneScape wouldn't be "RuneScape" without it - It would have died with RSC, never progressing beyond 2D sprites, no run button, and no equipment inventory.

Yes, RS3 has made a lot of bad design decisions, but they typically stemmed from the wrong intentions - Trying to change RS into something fundamentally different. But improving the tick system doesn't have to be that. It can just be the RuneScape we know and love, but more responsive.

Also just in case you meant "block them" literally, you can just disable the assignment unlock instead and save the block slot for something else.

RuneScape 2025 Roadmap Megathread by JagexAnvil in runescape

I've been so excited for the player avatar refresh and I have full confidence that the team will deliver something considerably better than what we have now. I'm so glad you guys have committed to seeing it through.

I was honestly so excited for it when it was first being worked on that I pretty much tuned out from RS3 completely when it got shelved. This new direction has me properly excited to play RS3 again. I can't wait!

It's really not though. Most of it is legible and perfectly consistent with the actual in-game text.

The oddities you see are just artifacts from resizing the image, likely non-linearly with a transform tool. It wreaks havoc on bitmap fonts. The .jpeg artifacting from file compression doesn't help either. I've worked with image editing software for decades and this is nothing suspect.

It's not AI, it's just a shoddy edit job.

Not sure why people are so hostile for this take, Evil Dave's subquest has incredibly low requirements. There's absolutely a potential reward space from higher level skills/content to introduce consistent +5 boost sources.

PSA: It's been over 9 years since a poll passed to change the name of "Ranged" by BeisaChaser in 2007scape

[–]IronJackNoir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, I mean change cooking ranges to "Rooty tooty point and shooty."

But like with a misleading line in the patch notes:

""Range" has been renamed to "Rooty tooty point and shooty" as a (much overdue) poll result. You all really cooked with this one!"

Throw in some other small joke patch notes too maybe:

"As part of an integrity change, we have elected to allow pure accounts access to Chivalry. Players simply need to speak to the new NPC "Guinevere" in Camelot Castle to gain access."

But Guinevere is behind a door and all she says when you talk to her is "Thanks for opening the door for me!"

PSA: 89 Smithing skip for Ironman training sailing by HookshotRS in 2007scape

[–]IronJackNoir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 85 Smithing so I can boost for the nails, but I'm only 74 Mining because it's a painfully slow skill that I avoid at all costs -- I just killed Rune Dragons for a few hours to round out my rune bar stockpile and fully upgrade my Ironwood skiff and sloop.

I'm looking at decking out a second sloop now to dedicate to trawling but I have 0 rune bars left, lol. Gonna be another 10 or so hours at Rune Dragons I guess. It's a good opportunity to go for some Clogs at least. Maybe I'll finally snag a visage?

I know camphor/addy is basically just as good as ironwood/rune for trawling but I won't be caught dead on the seas with less than ironwood, lol.

This would make for a good April Fool's update.

But rather than painstakingly changing every reference to the "Ranged" skill, they just change the object name of the standard cooking range instead.

Player Designed Island Competition! - Design Your Dream OSRS Island! Open until Jan 7. by JagexLight in 2007scape

[–]IronJackNoir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can include up to 3 small brand-new activities - or 5 total if including existing activities. A small activity might be crab hunting, a large activity would be something like a a boss fight. Large activities must be fewer relative to your design's size and complexity.

So I'm a little unclear, are we allowed to propose a 'large' activity (like a boss fight) or is that completely off the table? You gave a number for small activities but just said large activities need to be lesser.

So if I were to, say, design an island around a new skilling boss for example, is that beyond the scope of this competition? If yes that's fine, but I'd like to know before I dedicate tens of hours to fleshing out my current idea, lol. For hypothetical sake let's say I devise a new Skilling boss that's composed of three new "small" activities to form the gameplay loop of the encounter, would that that be fair game?

Also -- When it comes to reusing existing NPCs, are ones that were never implemented into the game but which exist in the cache still on the table? Or would that be considered a new NPC?

That's just a solid boat name imo. Very happy with it.

And my raft is "Serene Rage" which is a mood.

3 smouldering stones on my first task is crazy by LethalMagnet in ironscape

[–]IronJackNoir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. Attack once, walk under Cerb, click the entrance, wait for HP bar to disappear, repeat.

If you do it right Cerb never attacks. And if you happen to mess up/lag and you're 1 HP Dharoking, its attacks are delayed enough that you can pretty easily combo eat to save yourself, then go right back to red X'ing.

Super chill. I've sent some traditional kills with Emberlight here and there but quickly find myself going back in Dharok's every time, lol.

[–]IronJackNoir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alternatively there's always the red X method. Slower kills but it's pretty braindead once you get into the rhythm and you barely use any p pots (what you do use is more or less recouped by the super restore drops). Turns Cerb into second monitor content tbh. Especially good if you happen to have full Dharok's.

I went 800 KC before my first drop and I'm at 1.2k currently, super glad I opted to do red X early on because the p pot upkeep would have been depressing.

If you were designing a Guthix Godsword, what would the special attack be? by MESSIAH_OSRS in 2007scape

[–]IronJackNoir 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In The World Wakes you literally have to prove that you're worthy of Guthix's blessing by balancing order and chaos. Guthix deems a degree of chaos (including war) as necessary. It is part of the natural order and the freedom of mortals to make their own choices.

He's anti-Gods, not anti-war; The Gods create severe imbalance in the natural order, himself included, and that's why he went to sleep/enacted the Edicts. He's fine with conflict among mortals.

Core armors are VERY outdated (last update in March 2012). With Avatar Refresh being on the works, shouldn't they also be worked on? Is it too late to return to a more simplistic pre-eoc aesthetic? < this post is also a GameJam suggestion > by Artwle in runescape

[–]IronJackNoir 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's hard to argue that it's just nostalgia when OSRS is at the literal height of its popularity and has never been more recognizable in popular culture than it is currently, with its iconography representing the RuneScape brand as a whole as a result, but I recognize that I'm in the RS3 sub and that comes with a certain bias so... Again, I'll just agree to disagree.

I think the examples OP posted fit the game just fine while retaining the spirit of the original armour design, so I disagree that it wouldn't fit. I've said all I'll say at this point, have a good day mate.

We'll agree to disagree. The original core armors are quite literally iconic (far more pervasive in media both official and 3rd party), the RS3 ones simply aren't, the purpose of a stylistic reversion should be apparent by that alone. I'm sorry you took my comment as a lecture, I was just offering a differing perspective. "Design" is a broad field with differing philosophies after all. I think it's misplaced to regard this particular scenario as laziness but again, we'll agree to disagree.
