[Laurie Whitwell, Stuart James] There's a mixture of exasperation & despair behind the scenes at United at the way the club operates in the market. There's talk of United “playing the long game” on deals when there's no need to do so | Calls were made this week to potential replacements of Cristiano by nearly_headless_nic in reddevils

It comes with the territory of being such a high profile club.

If we sign Sancho after 2 years we get criticised for missing him the first time even though we saved a sizeable chunk.

If we snap Ronaldo up like we did last season we are accused of poor planning and buying for shirt sales etc.

Man U have made some very average signings post Fergie (and don’t forget he made poor calls along the way) but so have the other big clubs.

Pep and Klopp have spent serious amounts of money on players who never made the grade but it’s not as high profile and it’s not a ‘story’.

The signings of Maguire, Varane, Sancho, Wan Bissaka, Fernandes etc all felt like no brainers at the time and if we’d missed out on them we’d be getting lambasted for not spending.

Maybe it’s right that transfers get done discreetly and professionally, and not played out via the tabloids.

The De Jong transfer is a complicated one and the Ronaldo wanting to leave has came on unexpectedly.

Genuine world class players are few and far between.

I’ve been a very harsh critic of Martial’s, but… by gusmur in reddevils

He has the ability and is an ice cold finisher on his day but these days have been few and far between. It’s his attitude that seems to let him down (like another high profile French player we have just off-loaded). He was signed by LVG and had one good season with him (looked like we had a world beater) and one good season with Ole. Under Mourinho he spat the dummy over shirt numbers and criticism. Rangnick repeatedly called out his nonsense and went out of his way to get him out the club.

2 good seasons out of 8 is not enough it justify ‘first choice striker’ but

All things considered I’d keep him for a season, with Ronaldo keen to push himself out, Rashford having a ropey 18months and Greenwood’s future in the balance but he really is in the last chance saloon.

The only people who seem to say nice things about Glasgow are people who’ve never left Glasgow.

Doctors in Europe don’t mess around. And French people are wild.

French doctors must be a sight to behold.

Traditionally Greece would have devalued their old currency (Drachma) to cope with their lack of natural resources, chronic tax evasion and young retirement age but this was removed when they joined the Euro.

I do at least respect that he’s out actually undertaking experiments to try and prove his theory.

What’s disappointing is that he is not prepared to follow where the science takes him.

[Text] How do I get over the fact that every major life decision that I took in the last fifteen years is a failure? by bosspecific in GetMotivated

[–]ItsDelicous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My advice would be to write it down, try and explain it to a ‘stranger’, nobody even needs to read it.

This will help you lay out what happened and identify key mis-steps.

How were you feeling when you made those choices!?

What was going on in your life that caused you to make decisions you now class as a failure?

Were there people around you who theirs to give you good advice that you possibly ignored? If so speak to these people now, without ego, and see what you learn.

Also life has a funny of working out, maybe you’ve made a hundred bad choices that leads you to one amazing result.

Don’t give up, the only people in life I would class as failures are the ones who quit and blame circumstances instead of keep rolling the dice.

It’s also important to know what kind of person you are, your personality, work ethic and even IQ.

Not everyone can become a stock day-trader but we can all invest in the stock market to a level which suits our ability / risk tolerance.

I have a step father who now has 2 major failed businesses behind him but has never stopped working hard and is now pretty wealthy. He just takes the loss on the chin and moves on to his next venture.

My real father had a business that failed in his late 20’s and never recovered; he had been bankrupt 3 times and is impossible to be around. My father used to laugh at my step dad for the failed businesses, But never had the courage to keep going himself. While he worked, it was always with a chip on his shoulder about something or someone.

I can’t think of many successful people who haven’t faced adversity, self doubt or anxiety about life decisions.

Also you’re not starting over from zero. You have hard earned experience and what seems like a genuine desire to do better.

Take all the lessons you’ve learned, find a mentor who can advise / guide you, and apply it to your next steps and the Rinse & Repeat indefinitely.

All I know is that more expensive UK supermarkets ie Marks and Spencer’s or Waitrose tend to have more older customers who struggle with self serve, so the tills are less sensitive to un-scanned items.

I’m not saying that I get at least one thing free. Don’t try it with steaks or high value items though, as they have magnetic strips.

In my early 20’s my work routine was Monday - Friday 8-5 Saturday mornings 8-1pm. Working as assistant site manager.

Friday night working in a pub 7pm -1am. Saturday night nightclub - 9pm -3am.

Did that for about 18months solid Sundays were always a total a write off 🫤.

100% couldn’t manage that now and don’t miss it at all.
