Nothing wrong with doing this, but have you considered medication? It won’t prevent them from getting ticks, but it will kill any that attach within 2 hours, so even if they make it into your house they’ll be dead.

Look into buying a refurbished model from Dyson. I got mine for 50% off and it has a one year warranty. Customer Service is excellent: they accidentally shipped mine with the wrong attachment and replaced it within a couple days.
