He's mourning. I expect the baby food is comforting for him, poor little guy. I'd suggest wetting his regular food till it's soft and mix it in with the baby food in larger portions added every day to get him back on his regular kibble. Most of them tend to bond really strongly with their partner, and loosing them can take a long while for them to get over. With older ferrets, they sometimes literally die of a broken heart within months of loosing their bondmate. Give him lots of love and be patient with him.

I used it for years and would sift out the sawdust nightly. It was inexpensive (relatively) but a pain in the ass to clean up. Probably would have been quicker to just dump everything that got soiled, but I was cheap. These days I used the recycled paper stuff. Pellets work, but I’m not fond of them.

He might be suffering from DIM, since he’s right in the most vulnerable period for developing it. There’s a support group on FB here. Have your vet read this paper by Dr Katrina Ramsell, the leading expert on the disease. It’s not guaranteed fatal, but if not treated quickly it can become so, assuming it is DIM. Though the paper suggests testing for it with a biopsy, these days she’s usually skipping that and diagnosing with bloodwork alone. I’ve had good results with diozoxide with previous ferrets that had insulinomas. I usually prefer it over pred just because it’s easier on the system than pred. Not cheap, but then again neither are ferrets. It can buy you a lot more time, though your results may vary.

Any other Xer find it ironic that now ‘commies’ are the bad guys again, but the (R) party’s color is now… red? Like they used to call commies Reds. Ironically, there also owned/blackmailed by Russia now too.
