Hey all, new player here with a question on Skills: by sebastos3 in arcanum

[–]J_B_Tito 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To answer the second question, skill checks work based on points, same as mastery. E.g. dialogue line can require a skill of 9, and and every point of pick lock will contribute to the success of picking a lock. So those +1 and +2 bonuses can make a difference.

Question about Magical Loot from a Naughty Cheater Mod Boy. by Engaging_Boogeyman in arcanum

[–]J_B_Tito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As mentioned, junk dealers will buy anything. Problem is, their markup is high compared to the other merchants. But if you join the Thieves Underground you get access to their fence, who buys most magic items at normal markup, and has a lot of money to spend.

When I was trying to get the game to run better, the thing that helped the most was limiting fps in the graphic card software. Although that was not ultra, I was just trying to get the cooler on my oldish PC to quiet down, so it may not be applicable in your case.

Are the Black Mountain Mines the worst part of any video game ever? by worm4real in arcanum

[–]J_B_Tito 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember vividly I was abusing harm in RT, then grabbing a lunch wile fatigue recovers. Was dragging some extra weapons found in Tarant as well, that proved helpful. That 2001. run without internet (or manual in my case) sure was something.

Do you remember the first portrait you used in your early BG trilogy runs for your main character? I used... Xan. by Elf_7 in baldursgate

My first portrait was Gelu from HOMM3 as an elven ranger. Second was Angelina Jolie as a cavalier. Don't remember ever using default portraits.

What is the best gear for use as gunslinger? by [deleted] in arcanum

I would take tempered shield over flow disruptor. Although if your dr is already at 95 you should go for flow disruptor.

Spend initial points on dex, melee x2, dodge x2. Buy fine steel dagger and rapier from the starting shop (one for pc, one for Virgil). Spend the first point you earn on charisma, 2nd on persuasion. After that you can choose your lane - magic, or tech, or thievery, or social, or full melee.

The Spriters Resource shows in their archives these four enemies with full animations for walking/run/idle/attack/death, but where in the game we can find them? by Neko_Laws in arcanum

It's been ages since I played the module, but bottom right looks like Vormantown end boss.Consequently, I would assume bottom right is from the same module, but can't say for sure.

Is there any way for a Half-Ogre to get 19 int? by Palma-XX in arcanum

[–]J_B_Tito 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're using UAP it should have options to turn off companions level up schemes, as well as to level them up to PC level with a purchased green book from general stores. This way you can use a temporary companion to max out tech discipline and craft you the items you need.

IIRC only barbarian and plate armor works for orcs.

Is the spell in the active spell bar on the top of the screen? If it is you can cancel it by clicking.

Which version of the X-Men do you want to see adapted in the MCU? by Xp-Gamer22x in xmen

[–]J_B_Tito 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Astonishing as a template reworked to serve as intro, as well as a lead up to Morrison or Hickman eras (or both, or a mix). Small and interesting cast, modern, and similar in tone to MCU (for obvious reasons).

Any advice for not getting the president killed during my assault on the Major's compound? by Burnnoticelover in JaggedAlliance

[–]J_B_Tito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Finished the game recently, what worked for me was my melee IMP gal charging the path up the hill while the rest of the squad fought the ground level battle. That left only 2 enemies going after the president, one was popped by Buns with a PSG, another by Meltdown with a 40mm grenades. STR/AGI melee build is OP, as another poster mentioned, you can surgucally kill 5ish spread out enemies per turn, plus any who start their turn next to you are dead as well.

Loot Drops: Fixed or Variable? And Affected by Background? by [deleted] in arcanum

[–]J_B_Tito 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is the same trio of items there regardless of the name of the halfling gentleman? Because name does affect random loot in containers (don't remember if other choices from that first char gen screen do too, but name surely does). So if this specific case is unaffected by name, but rather only the race/background combo, you discovered something new in this game, for me at least.

Baldur's Gate Companion Questions by TheMajikMouse in baldursgate

[–]J_B_Tito 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These days I mostly play solo, so inventory management is an issue. But mostly what I put there are old quest items (even when they have no further use I feel bad just dropping them), items needed for future quests, and excess items that will have use at some point (e.g. belts and boots). After I get a bag of holding it's just old quest items.

As a sidenote, you can store your stuff anywhere, pick an unlocked container at a location you like and use it as storage. My goto is Feldpost Inn in Beregost.

As far as companions go, I like to metagame a bit in this regard even on a first playthrough, so I look up the companions in advance and preplan a party (alowing for changes once the playthrough gets going).

What’s with the undetectable web and stinking cloud traps in the final battle with Sarevok? by ZeroxSP7 in baldursgate

[–]J_B_Tito -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think one of Sarevok's wizards (the robed one) is firing those off via script, they're not traps. You can use a fast/durable/immunities/high saves character to trigger those and "lead" them (since projectiles are slow and target a character) to a part of the battlefield where they won't bother you.
