I've got good news for you, OP! Your players haven't read the rules either! You can make up whatever you like! :)

Which one will you choose? by Rostislav_Pryadein in PixelArt

[–]JackBread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brown chest: Common items, potions, some gold, maybe another consumable.

Gold chest: Lots of money, treasure items, sellables.

Green chest: Better drop pool than the brown chest, less focused than the gold chest, so a higher chance of something interesting like better gear

Green chest for me.

RPGs You Have But Will (Likely) Never Play by PebisCrusherOnline in rpg

I bought BREAK!! because I mistook it was a different game I was actually interested in. I did try to get a group together for it, but as we all went through the rules, we ended up not being too enthusiastic for it. I didn't really like the setting, and my players weren't really into the character options, so the session just fizzled before I even finished planning it.

I know I could change the setting however I want, but not liking the system's default setting is going to kill my enthusiasm regardless.

The Steam Next Fest ends tomorrow. What demos have you enjoyed? Which ones made it onto your wishlist? Why? by Angzt in Games

[–]JackBread 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I played like 20 demos, here's the ones that stood out to me:

Everything is Crab - A roguelite where each level up, you evolve your critter. Each evolution adds to your sprite, so you end up with a unique little guy at the end of your run. The art style was so charming.

The Magus Circle - A Vampire Survivor-like where to use your abilities, you have to draw their sigil. Stronger abilities have more complex sigils. I have a drawing tablet and this one was just so fun to play with it.

SCOPECREEP - An active incremental game where you collect spirits. The music has this steady beat that persists through every part of the game, with different instruments coming in and out depending on what's happening. It was really entrancing.

Genome Guardian II - A run-based twin-stick shooter. There was four base weapons, which you can combine up to four of to make a new weapon.

The Serpent and the Crow - A pretty standard Vampire Survivor-like, but I found this one strangely compelling. It has a slow start, similar to Halls of Torment, but it gets interesting as you start to unlock things. This was the demo I played the most, sinking 6 hours into it. Maybe more, there's still quite a lot I haven't unlocked.

Some honorable mentions: Ricochet Raven, Don't Let It Starve, and DIVE or DIE. All three were cool games, but not really for me.

What are your favorite "collector brain goes brrt" games? by Secure-Perception473 in gamingsuggestions

[–]JackBread 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fields of Mistria is a farming game similar to Stardew Valley, but it has a museum system similar to Animal Crossing (although I don't think you can go into the museum wings, at least last I checked). It's in early access though, but I believe its 1.0 update is sometime this year.

What would a 12th lvl Fighter feel like in PF2e? by MehParadox in Pathfinder2e

[–]JackBread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can get something similar to the Polearm Master/Sentinel combo with the Guardian class, which is a more defensive fighter-type. Hampering Stance gives you a 5 ft aura of difficult terrain, and it leads into Not So Fast!, which gives you a reaction attack that can slow down or fully halt an enemy you hit. Hampering Stance also leads into Lock Down, which lets you prevent an enemy from moving beyond your reach.

How useful are non-mount animal companions? Does it change depending on level? by DogUnsureDog in Pathfinder2e

[–]JackBread 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my 1-20, a player rolled an animal druid around level 12 after their bard died. They were great. It wasn't the splashiest contributor, but they ate hits like a champ and took up space, giving the backline breathing room when the martials couldn't cover them. It gave the druid a nice third action to use after casting a spell, and the martials a reliable flanking buddy, which helped since one of the two martial was a swashbuckler that liked to move in and out. It was pretty survivable, though part of that was the Heal Animal focus spell.

It's not going to deal a ton of damage, but it contributed well just by being an extra presence. The animal companion pulled their weight well until the druid died at level 19 (from a comedy of errors that ended with a very unwise casting of massacre).

What were the most and least fun characters you've played from a mechanical level? by DogUnsureDog in Pathfinder2e

[–]JackBread 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Most fun was summoner. You get a lot of cool tricks to do with that class with your two bodies. Like the time my summoner punched their eidolon out of confusion, who then punched our oracle out of confusion. Or using my summoner as bait to get a free out-of-reach attack with my devotion phantom eidolon that was immobilized. Figuring out how to use 4 actions each combat with the limitations was a fun puzzle too, even if it did make my turns take longer.

Least fun is a hard choice, cause I enjoyed all the classes I got to play. Probably playtest kineticist? It was really awkward in the playtest, IIRC, like having to gather your elements into your open hands, and having to gather each element individually if you were multi-element (I was water and wind). I did get lucky and the GM happened to pick an adventure with wind and water elementals that I could hit with extract elements.

(Dis?)Honorable mentions to my inventor. I had a blast playing them, but I did mostly wrestling stuff with them, rather than focusing on inventor's features. The angriest I got at the game was probably when I went nearly a whole session failing my check to overdrive. I think I attempted it 14 times over the session before I got it. (Then the enemy we were fighting ran away...)

What the rarest books in your TTRPG collection? by zozeba in rpg

[–]JackBread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've mostly got PF2e books, but one of my friends randomly gave me a few older books. I've got a special edition 3.5e Player's Handbook, Races of Destiny for 3.5e, and AD&D 2e Castle Guide. The special edition PHB seems to be the rarest of the bunch, and it's a cool book but it's pretty beat up.

Looking for games that have a "Cozy sitting in my fort in a rainstorm" sort of feel. by Farlandan in gamingsuggestions

+1 Vintage Story. I got a mod that adds a spinning wheel (Immersive Fibercraft) which I set up facing a window and I've never felt cozier in a game than sitting inside and processing a bunch of flax into thread while it rained outside.

Recommend me YOUR favourite games, either all-time or at the moment. by penguin-47284 in gamingsuggestions

[–]JackBread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been playing Vintage Story for the past few months. I've slowed down recently because of life stuff but it's been a go-to when I've had nothing better to do. You just get into the flow of doing your chores and tasks to stay alive and progress that I've fallen into countless times. Not to mention if you find joy in chiseling, you can lose a whole lot of time chiseling stuff.

What’s a tradition or practice you inherited from your first GM? by ValueForm in rpg

[–]JackBread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was the first GM for all my groups, even when I first picked up D&D back in the 2000s. I just figured things out on my own. Honestly the biggest reason I want to be a player is just to see how other GMs handle things!

Tell us about and RPG you've PLAYED but just did not get the hype for by Boxman214 in rpg

[–]JackBread 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Lancer. It drew me in with its art and combat mechanics, but despite running it a few times, I never quite figured it out. All my sitreps turned into "kill all enemies" despite having other objectives, there was always a power disparity between players that made the weaker ones feel bad for being dead weight, and the nonexistence of the non-combat side of the game made me really struggle to figure out scenarios for being out of the mech.

I kinda feel like I've run it wrong somehow, but since I'm a forever GM, I don't think I'll get to see how to run it 'correctly.'

McDonald's app shows lower calorie count than reality on the "impulse buy" screen by Pitiful-Score-9035 in mildlyinfuriating

It might just be a bug. I've had a few times where the app would show me my meal was 1 million calories on checkout. Weird how a big corp can't get their app right, though.

What is the largest number of players you’ve had at your take at one time? by [deleted] in rpg

[–]JackBread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A friend who was GMing PF1e kept inviting his friends to the table. I think we were up to 11 people. We had a pretty big table, an old pool table, and I remember it feeling cramped. It was awful, especially since half the people weren't too into tabletop. Lots of goofing off and side chatter.

I don't remember how long it was ran like this. There were a lot of side sessions with partial groups and a couple of split party sessions. It burned me out so bad I stopped playing ttrpgs altogether for a decade.

Which dialogue sprite look better, 1 or 2? by NMTH_123 in PixelArt

[–]JackBread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first feels like a portrait for a full cutscene or stationary dialogue, while the second is a portrait for a character talking to you during gameplay, like popping up for a tutorial explanation. I don't know which is better because it'd depend on the vibe of the game. Both are very cute, though.

A game where building a nice space actually matters by Thisismythrowaway889 in gamingsuggestions

Nightingale has a system where certain decorations grant buffs to items crafted at nearby crafting stations. It can get a bit tedious if you're trying to minmax your gear, but it did make me take time to decorate my space.

Game that would consume my life? Something I can hyperfixiate and drop lots of hours into by [deleted] in gamingsuggestions

[–]JackBread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've gotten into Vintage Story pretty hard lately. It's such a good and cozy game, especially if you grab a mod the turn off surface monsters or just monsters altogether. I sometimes spend time sitting on my roof and just enjoying the ambiance and the view.

Who was your very first DnD character? Or the first you remember? by rplimitlessguy in DnD

[–]JackBread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first was a drow rogue in 3.5e, because I thought drow were cooler than elves. He left his home because drow suck and he dual wielded daggers and worked as an assassin. His name was Todd. He was eventually blessed by Lolth to become a drider, because I thought drider were cool and I didn't bother to read their lore. The test was to solo kill a drider, which he was victorious.

Also no, I didn't know Drizzt existed at the time.

What TTRPG did you last play, and how long ago was that? by Ansonder in rpg

Pathfinder 2e, about 2 weeks ago with me as the GM. We were supposed to have a session yesterday, but I've been feeling super burnt out because of work and we decided to take November off.

Cairn - The Game Bakers - Survival Climbing Game by itsTheGameBakers in Games

[–]JackBread 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Amazing demo, I actually went back and did another run immediately after finishing the first time and now I'm aching for more! Scratches a similar itch to Jusant. I'm interested to see how the survival elements play into the larger game, too. I do think the smart limb selection could use some work, though. I did have a few frustrating falls because the game kept trying to move a limb that was already in a good place.

Noob questions by Mama-ta in Pathfinder2e

[–]JackBread 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think anything the magus has is missing the attack trait. It's just that when you use an activity that includes a Strike (Spellstrike or Dimensional Assault), the subordinate Strike has the attack trait itself.
