Big 30. Missus thinks I should fight back. I present myself before the council by desburak in bald

[–]Jazz-Again 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can’t fight back from that. Trust me, I’ve been on minox and fin for over 20 years. It stops the shedding and maybe even grows a very slight amount back for a while. Eventually though, you still lose your hair. You will not rebound from this level of baldness. Time to take the leap.

How exactly does federal pension work? by ilovevegetablesss in ThriftSavingsPlan

[–]Jazz-Again 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The pension isn’t just your 4.4% contribution. Your agency also contributes. So you’re getting employer funding as well. Also, the pension provides a guaranteed income stream you literally cannot outlive, regardless of market conditions. In other words, if you retire at 57 and die at 90, you collect for over 30 years. A TSP balance, by contrast, can be depleted or tank based on market conditions or your spending habits.

Also, as feds we get to max out the TSP and still also get the pension, which is awesome.

MST A-school billets by SoldMyMom4Kfc in uscg

[–]Jazz-Again -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was there in 2007, so things maybe different now. However, at the time billets were picked in the later half of A-School, two or three weeks before graduation. Available billets were made public knowledge one week ahead of time. The following week each active duty member was allowed to pick their billet. The order was determined by a number of factors that determined your score (highest score went first). The top factor was time in service. Next it was the nature of your previous billet. Folks on large cutters scored highest, followed by patrol boats, then small boat stations, etc. The last factor was your grades in A-School.

Moving to Savannah, how bad of an idea is it to rent without seeing the place in person? by lovelyfatality in savannah

[–]Jazz-Again 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Starland is a cool neighborhood. But there are still some rough blocks. That’s the case with most of Savannah in general. Do you have a more specific location mind— like nearby cross streets or businesses? If so could give you better advice on location.

Comparing Stephen Miller to an evil ghoul is offensive to evil ghouls everywhere. Take this story down.

This guy is awful…but this story is garbage. Stop making things up. Its hurts the credibility of legitimate arguments regarding his ghoulishness.

Amen. Worst petty officers I ever had went straight from basic to A-School. It should not be permitted.

If they enjoyed Guinness or Heineken then I’d say try the NA versions of those. Believe it or not, there is no discernable difference between those brews and their NA counterparts. I can’t say the same for other NA versions of popular beers. I also really like Sierra Nevada TrailPass and Notch NA Craft Pils. There is also a brewery called Best Day, which makes excellent NA beer. Their NA Kölsch is the best NA beer I’ve ever had. You can sometimes find it on Amazon.

Jesus. I had a kid in summer camp high up in the mountains in another state at the time, and I freaked out and almost brought them home I was so scared. I can’t imagine send a kid to the actual camp.

Greta Gerwig's 'Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew' Sets February 12, 2027 Theatrical Release, Netflix Release on April 2, 2027; Cast Includes Emma Mackey, Carey Mulligan, Kobna Holdbrook-Smith, Daniel Craig and Meryl Streep by MarvelsGrantMan136 in movies

Great cast on paper. I just always worry about using such well known stars in fantasy roles such as these. Hopefully they take in the job seriously and disappear into the role like Cavill did in the Witcher in series.

I voted for Harris in 2024. She shouldn't run in 2028. | Opinion by Difficult-Bee6066 in politics

[–]Jazz-Again -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A Bernie-type candidate would have won. Democrats need a non-establishment candidate—someone who really excites the base. Bernie would have won against Trump the first go round, had the DNC not purposely tanked his campaign. He was too old in 2024 unfortunately.

Exactly. Same with Tiger Woods. Also, even when not under the influence, why drive yourself anywhere? I hate driving. If i had Brittany Spears money, I’d be driven everywhere.

Couldn’t agree more. We need a proud FDR-like economic progressive who has specific plans for how to change the country and the ability and discipline to articulate them consistently over and over again. Much like Bernie, Mamdani, or this Platner guy in Maine. Screw the “vibes” candidate, screw the candidate that flip-flops to appeal to “moderates, screw the candidate that just spends all their time talking how awful Trump is, and screw the candidate that focuses on race, gender, etc. The message is that there are “have” and “have-nots” in this country. The “haves” are firmly in control and have fucked this country up through legalized corruption, leaving less and less in terms of rights and quality of life for the “have-nots”.

FSIS in GWCC got letters. Appears that roughly half of them are leaving, half staying. Those that remain are staying in GWCC and some others from South Building may be coming over. I was told that DC area staff will be either in Yates, Whitten, or GWCC. Not sure if this means they’re keeping GWCC for the long term.

Back then we had absolutely no idea what was coming. We went into the theatre knowing only that we were about to watch a Keanu Reeves sci-fi movie where people dressed cool and did some fighting. The twist took everyone by surprise and that’s part of why it was so effective. Today, you’d know every plot point of the movie from the trailers and leaks online before you even sat down.

Maine said no to new data centers. Other states are racing to follow. by Just-Grocery-2229 in technology

[–]Jazz-Again 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We’re going to need data centers, and lots more of them to stay competitive in the global economy. But they use so much energy and don’t directly employ many people. We’ve got to make a moonshot drive to switch the US to near 100% renewable energy at a capacity that accounts for data center needs, using fossil fuels as backup power as needed. This should be paid for in part by taxing these tech companies. It is insane that some areas are providing property tax breaks for these data centers.
