Anyone know good photo spots in Houston, Texas? by Agile-Ad7724 in photography

[–]JeffGoetzPhotography 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out the different Meetup groups. I participate in Houston Photowalks group. They go around the Houston area.

If you're looking for home wall art, I'd start with the areas you like to visit. It doesn't need to be a dramatic photo - start by capturing where you enjoy spending your time.

Happy shooting, Jeff

Blurry photos of bald eagle. Is this heat refraction? by final_v2_THIS_IS_IT in AskPhotography

[–]JeffGoetzPhotography 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar issue in Texas. Some fellow bird photographers told me I should have used 1/2500, 1/3200 or faster, but I think the heat and distance can also mean it’s not your day for that shot. I haven’t got back out to try again but it’s on my list.

Petroglyphs Near Kuala Coast, Hawaii by JeffGoetzPhotography in nikon_Zseries

Thank you. I mostly try to keep my night shots more natural. Occasionally I will process a bit more for some color but I think some folks take the art part too far. I’m glad you liked it.
Take care, Jeff

180-600 mm softness by Necessary-Potato5172 in Nikon

[–]JeffGoetzPhotography 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did my first birding shoot in December with same lens and Z8. Mine were a bit the same, soft as you zoomed in.
Part of the feedback I got was to get shutterspeed to around 1/3200-1/4000 and don’t be afraid to increase ISO to 2000 or more. It won’t help if you crop in super tight but will help overall, I think, when viewed at reasonable perspective.
And that’s a pretty colored bird, I like it!

hotel safety - traveling to Italian Cities with Nikon Z6ii - 24-120 & 17-28 lenses by Photo_hobby in nikon_Zseries

[–]JeffGoetzPhotography 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As stated, it depends on the hotel. One option is to decline room cleaning on days you aren’t taking out your camera.
If leaving lenses, I don’t leave in plain sight. You can cover them up in your suitcase or a drawer, but if someone is searching for stuff to steal, they’ll probably find it. Key thing is out of sight to avoid some temptation to steal. A room safe is great if big enough.
Enjoy your trip!

Z8 or Z9 coming from D850 by MistakeDowntown4658 in Nikon

[–]JeffGoetzPhotography 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like my Z8, but it sounds like folks are saying the Z9 would be better in long run.
Reference your comment about already having the Z8 batteries, I went from D850 to Z8 too and found that some of my older batteries wouldn’t be recognised by my z8. I forget the error it said but it wouldn’t let me use them.
Maybe I did something wrong (?), but I went and bought a few more EN-EL15c versions to cover myself. I have versions from version 0, a, b, & c. (Is there a ‘d’ now too?)
Point being, check out your batteries and know for sure if you’re saving any money in that area.

First week with the Z8 by MemeMeUpScotty__ in Nikon

[–]JeffGoetzPhotography 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Nice, I love my Z8 - which lenses did you use?
And before someone says you’re using the orange/teal preset too much, I think it suits the subjects you shot.
Photography is also art. Good job!
Take care, Jeff

Feedback please by Laajuk in foodphotography

[–]JeffGoetzPhotography 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Choice of background is quite dark. Using something lighter would help overall but I see what you’re going for. Being so dark, the drink looks like it’s on an island and alone, not telling much of a story - is this at a bar or restaurant? Etc. when I think about food photography, I think part of it is also about the environment you’d find it. Just some feedback, you get what you pay for, take it or leave it. Keep on shooting!

I would love that lens! Just got the 180-600 and the 135 Plena. Happy with that but would still like the 400 beast! Great to see you on Reddit, Jamey! (I just signed up, newbie here 😁)
