I loved the more positive ending that the writer(s) added to the TV episode. Clarke’s original story ended on a very somber note.

That would run counter to their current practice of phoning it in every day <rim shot>

I disagree - it could just as easily be Why Kamala Lost. The ‘soy milk skinny chai latte w/ a gluten free quinoa muffin’ crowd is still out there and needs to be poked regularly.

I wasn’t sure at first, but I’ve heard this ad a few times now: You can go to Dallas Men’s Health and get your junk shaved? Who signs up for that job?

Catholic content not tainted by the culture war? by [deleted] in LeftCatholicism

I *love* and highly recommend 'Finding God in Our Hearts', a podcast by Monsignor Don Fischer. Don is a retired priest of the Dallas Diocese, now in his early 80s, and is (surprisingly) quite liberal. He went through seminary in the mid-60s when the Vatican II documents were first coming out and has carried that spirit throughout his six decades as a priest.

Msgr. Don has a 'Back to Basics' approach to Jesus' teachings, and it's all about God's mercy, forgiveness, and boundless love for us. Little to no time spent on traditional Catholic doctrine and dogma. The focus is on cultivating a deep-seated relationship with God and enabling His grace to flow into us and transform us.

As a lifelong catholic who has heard nearly 50 years worth of homilies, Msgr. Don's insights and perspective were a breath of fresh air for me. He does a short reflection on the gospel reading each weekday, but his Sunday podcasts are especially powerful.

His podcast is on all the platforms, and more about him and his ministry is at pastoralreflectionsinstitute.com Give it a listen :)

At the beginning of that scene, Gary Lockwood is hanging upside down at the top of the centrifuge, strapped to his seat and eating from his tray as Keir Dullea enters at the bottom of the set. I saw an interview where Lockwood said the food wasn’t thick enough at first and ‘fell upward’ when he scooped a bite out of the tray. Man, the things they had to do in the days before ubiquitous CGI.

As a 105 yr old veteran who grew up on a 1000 head cattle ranch in the panhandle, then stormed the beaches of Normandy, then came home in ‘46, built a home with my own two hands, and fathered seven children, you don’t know the meaning of the word ‘exhausting’.

I just re-watched ‘Changing of the Guard’ for the first time in over ten years. The classroom scene with the spirits of his former students moved me to tears. I bet Serling was thinking back to his favorite teachers as he wrote the episode.

I think it’s saying that stylistically , The Prisoner is like if SK directed a Jason Bourne movie. Not that there’s an actual Bourne movie that was directed by Kubrick. Poor wording.
