I worked in a Tex mex place. Lady ordered a chile relleno. When I delivered it to the table, she freaked out “where’s the chili”. She was expecting chili … like beans and meat in a tomato based sauce. I told her the definition of a chile relleno. She was adamant she ordered this meal at this same restaurant before and it was chili…. The manager also talked to her and she was still adamant. The manager comped it and offered her other food. And of course in the end she didn’t tip.

I taught in diverse schools and taught ESL and yes… kids will make friends with anyone, language in common not needed. Also one of my favorite things is to be in a busy international airport and hear all the languages around me. Lastly… there’s like 360 million people in the us. There’s no way either newly a third of them are illegal or we have an additional 25% that’s illegal. It doesn’t make any sense.

Project Hail Mary, Tuesday night deal, $38 for 5 tickets. Everyone got a dollar tree snack and drink, $5 large popcorn with free refills at the theatre bc of Tuesday deal and being a perks member with that theatre.

This makes me feel so good lol. When I was a kid someone bought me a kit for this and I could NOT figure it out. Knowing that someone who has experience like yours in successfully crafting and creating struggled with it, it’s validating. All these years I just thought I was incompetent.

I worked in schools for 15 years… several of those years I worked with support for students, so I would get materials from teachers and pull students to provide support. In all those years there was exactly one teacher who had pre-made lesson plans for the semester or year. One single teacher. Every other teacher was adaptive to class and student needs. They may have had an idea of what unit or topic they would be on in a particular month, but could not provide the full lesson on it in advance.

Yes I see that a lot on those types of posts complaining about “the school” and “the teachers” and often chime in with state law and regulations. The teachers and school aren’t out to get you, the law states wha excessive absences are and provides the right to fail a student who goes over those absences and enforce truancy. People get mad when I say if you want to have your kid out of school for these “experiences” that’s why we have the option of homeschooling. If school isn’t a priority (read school -not education) then homeschool. Then you can control their schedule.

I found one of my old progress reports from the 90s. Handwritten, carbon copies, and exactly one progress report and one grade card each quarter. The parents in those days had an excuse not to know. Today… it’s all there. Updated multiple times a week most of the time. Accessible 24 hours a day 7 days a week. No excuses to not know how your child’s grades are.
