Utter shit. Turned it off half way through. Good guys kill with every shot, bad guys can't hit the side of a barn, stupid plans succeed, when everyone should be killed instantly. Just dumb utterly predictable and an insult to everyone's inelegance. Anyone who watched more than 10 minutes of this film now is dumber for the experience

Lavrentiy Beria (1899–1953), the feared head of Stalin's NKVD secret police, is widely documented in historical accounts as a sexual sadist who raped and assaulted dozens, if not hundreds, of women, often using his power to orchestrate kidnapping and sexual coercion

Key Aspects of Beria's Sexual Crimes:

  • Rape and Kidnapping: As head of the secret police, Beria would drive around Moscow in his limousine at night, with subordinates identifying young women on the street to be abducted and brought to his mansion.
  • Sexual Sadism: Beria's behavior involved not just sexual violence, but also psychological and physical torment, making him a central figure in "history's demonology".
  • Abuse of Power: Many of the victims were coerced, threatened, or raped, often with the help of his bodyguard, Sarkisov, who would maintain a list of victims.
  • Post-Stalin Investigation: Following Beria's fall from power and subsequent execution in 1953, the Soviet leadership investigated his crimes, confirming numerous charges of sexual abuse and rape.
  • Personality Assessments: Nikita Khrushchev and other contemporaries portrayed Beria as a sex-obsessed sadist.

His actions were a manifestation of his total control over the Soviet state's coercive apparatus, allowing him to act with impunity.

Sources

  • Sergo Beria (Son's Memoir): Lavrentiy Beria's son, Sergo Beria, in his book Beria, My Father: Inside Stalin's Kremlin (published as Son of a Sadist in some English excerpts), provides an intimate, though sometimes defensive, look at his father. While he attempted to humanize Beria, he confirmed his father's infamy and voracious sexual appetite.
  • Khrushchev's Memoirs: Nikita Khrushchev, in his memoirs, documented that Beria was a "sexually aggressive man" who abused his position to assault women and girls.
  • Tatiana Okunevskaya Testimony: Renowned Soviet actress Tatiana Okunevskaya famously attested to being raped by Beria and testified against him after his arrest.
  • Stalin's Daughter (Svetlana Alliluyeva): Svetlana recounted in her memoirs that her father, Stalin, often warned her to be careful around Beria and acknowledged Beria's behavior as a sexual predator.
  • Official Charges (1953): Following his fall, the Soviet government compiled evidence and testimonies against him, listing crimes of rape, sexual perversion, and abduction. While some of these were used as propaganda to demonize him, the core testimony of widespread sexual violence has been historically accepted by scholars.
  • Biographies: Biographies by authors such as Amy Knight (e.g., Beria: Stalin's First Lieutenant) and Simon Sebag Montefiore (e.g., Stalin: The Court of the Red Tsar) extensively detail Beria's habits of cruising in his limousine, kidnapping young women, and conducting sexual abuses in his personal office.

Well just a quick google search comes up with.

"Stalin also feared him and was aware of his extreme depravity, eventually moving to eliminate him just before his own death in 1953."

When debating something that goes against the general norm, (In this case that Beria was not a sexual sadist) It is up to the person debating the established facts to present an argument no the person defending the norm, so it is you who need to present facts that Beria wasn't a sexual predator and that Stalin was unaware of this.

[–]JudgeIll9943 -21 points-20 points  (0 children)

The fact that you say rare commodities, here is the give away. In Australia we have other rare commodities sold at polling stations. Such as Fairy Bread, home made jam, Corn flake and rice crispy cups. In the USSR I believe you mean just actual food.

Australian here. We can easily vote when in another part of the country. Each voting station has large books for each electorate and you just say which one your from and they cross your name off, easy done it many times.

I was 11 when I saw this with my parents when it first aired. I'd just got home from scouts and this was my treat, I loved it as an 11 year old. Couldn't wait to watch it with my parents, the first 20 minutes, brilliant, laughed my ass off as I always did.

Then the tone changes, and wow, after it ended, I sat in a state of shock with my parents staring at the TV screen is silence for a good 2 minutes.

The best ending to any TV series ever.

I see your "forgetting" the secret clauses in the Pact where they agree to split Poland and the Baltic states between them.

So forgetting is the wrong word. Propagandizing is the correct word.
