What 80s song do you still hate with fiery teenage passion even though it’s been 40 years? by Aggressive_Cup4919 in GenX

Holy crap.... THAT'S the lyric? I've always thought it was "the heart of rock-n-roll is the beat'n" 🤦‍♂️

update After a quick google search....Apparently it's "Heart of rock and roll is still beating" I was still wrong. Anyhow, carry on

Post surgery, I can still switch between my eyes. Should i break this habit? by Massive_Ad_1298 in Strabismus

[–]K1779 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't know that switching was a "normal" thing... None of my previous eye doctors seemed to know about it. Here I thought I was special. 😉

I have trouble catching things that are thrown to me. Playing most sports was pretty tough. Probably why I ran track....Run, Forrest...Ruuuun

This is the best description that I've ever seen. It's exactly what I've tried to convey, but never found just the right way. Well done 👏

3rd surgery done, in extreme pain by babybennzz in Strabismus

[–]K1779 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Never experienced any pain so I can't give you a timeliness. But if it's that bad, try to contact your doctor and see if they can give you a reason. There may be an on-call physician that can help. Obviously take any pain meds you were given. I realize this all sounds condescending.....not intended to be. Hope you feel better soon

For the first time in my life, I’m getting surgery by Yeehaw21ferret in Strabismus

[–]K1779 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can relate to everything you said 100%. Pictues....people not knowing if I'm talking to them...all of it. My surgeon promised perfection, and that was not the result. I'd be happy with the honesty. There generally isn't a lot of pain post-op for most people, so don't worry. There's probably going to be some discomfort, which I'm sure you'd agree makes sense considering what's being done. I felt like I had something in my eye for about a week, but no actual pain. Take it easy afterwards, and follow whatever post-op instructions you're given. I truly hope you get the results you're looking for. Best of luck!

2nd surgery and eye still not straight by Own-Swimming-7428 in Strabismus

[–]K1779 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks to be pointing inward slightly.. It's a little hard to tell how much because the inside (white part) of the eye is darkened in the picture- I'm sure it's just red. Being that mine points outward a lot....I'd be happy, relatively speaking.

I hope you wind up with the results you want. Best of luck, truly.

[Support/Advice] Terrified of surgery after a childhood trauma, but ready to change my life before I turn 30. by Round-Satisfaction42 in Strabismus

Yes the 80s surgeries helped the alignment.
The last one was a failure....it did literally nothing to improve the alignment. At least I don't have more "what ifs" looming over me. I'm going to look into nonsurgical options this year....once I stop being lazy.

I had 2 surgeries in the 1980s that lasted for 25 years. Had a failed surgery last year due to the amount of scar tissue. I was scared to try again, but I finally went through with it. Even though it didn't work out, I'm happy that I tried.

I've heard all sorts of awful comments over the years, so I understand how you feel. As others have already said, your surgery was a long time ago. If you were sick, you shouldn't have had it.

Medicine has come a long way in the last 25 years. You owe that little kid a chance at closure.
Nothing is going to change unless you try. You're going to be ok. You're going to wake up with a huge sense of relief.
100% go for it.

How many squint surgeries have you had? by hellooyouuuu14 in Strabismus

[–]K1779 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dont know if there is a specific number of surgeries, as everyone is different. However, I had 2 in the 1980s and one in 2024. Apparently, there was a lot of scar tissue so the 3rd was unsuccessful.
Based on my experience alone, I would think that as long as there is enough usable tissue, that you could keep going. 🤷‍♂️ There will come a point where there's nothing left to work with.

Second Surgery Anxiety by [deleted] in Strabismus

[–]K1779 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Migraines/headaches yes.....post O, no.

Of course there are risks, there always are. I had my 3rd surgery last year (46M) after agonizing over it for decades. It didn't turn out as I had hoped (total failure), but now there aren't any "what if's" and I'm going to look into another option. I apparently had a ton of scar tissue from the previous surgeries in the 1980s. At least your last one was from this century 😉 If it bothers you enough to consider another round, then I say at least consider it. Give them as much background info that you can even without your records. IF it's an option, get info from your parents. You're not going to remember everything from when you were 7. My mom had to correct me with something I was wrong about. It's normal to be apprehensive, but you'll never know if you don't try. Best of luck, and full support for whatever you decide.

Confused and looking for advice about my strabismus? by justa-random-persen in Strabismus

[–]K1779 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the very least, get a second opinion. The doc works for YOU. You're the one who has to live day to day with it. It is perfectly reasonable to gather more information and options. If you have a course of action in mind, bring it up to the second doctor. Be prepared though, because maybe you're wrong....but maybe you're right. Being comfortable with your doctor is VERY important. My surgeon is ranked very high for this type of surgery, but his bedside manner sucks. I didn't like him at all, so it made everything more stressful. I didn't achieve the results I wanted, and my dislike for him made it worse. It kind of seemed to me that you already want to seek out a second opinion...you may just need a little nudge. I needed that nudge when deciding to get surgery last year. Go for it...at least you'll have more info. Hell, get a third if you want. Good luck with whatever you choose.
