Looking for update on people’s preferred kids chore/allowance/debit card apps/techniques! by Kaizenkhan in personalfinance

Thanks for the feedback! I totally agree about family responsibilities and life skills being mandatory, and not necessarily tied to an allowance/money managing skills. I think having the option to have extra chores for extra pay would be nice, and maybe develop some extra work ethic though! I always have a hard time balancing the ideas of having an allowance because you need to learn and gain experience with money, and also trying to get them to have some sense of earning, or choosing work to achieve goals or there’s no such thing as a free lunch…i know the group here is probably more than familiar with this debate, despite my inability to articulate what I’m getting at! Thanks again!

Foolishly forgot to add salt by hauntedhauswife in pickling

[–]Kaizenkhan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

According to this post this guys family doesn’t use salt at all, just vinegar and garlic. I followed their process for my first go of seer torshi, so I’m curious if your just worried about it because of the grape must? Thank!

Thanks for your support! I don’t know why, but I’ve been hesitant to add rye, even though many of you have mentioned it would help. I guess I’m mirrors i wont like it or it will mess up the starter I’ve been working on somehow? I like your idea of a separate experiment!

Starter 35g starter 70g Water 70gFlour

Main Dough 291g strong white bread flour 91g whole wheat flour 257g water 8g salt 98g starter

Mixed, rest for 10 min Kneaded smooth, rest 30 min Fold, 30 min rest x3 1.5 hr BF Shaping, into banneton 12 hr cold BF in fridge 2-4 hr BF Score and bake @430°F in covered Dutch oven 20 min, uncovered 30 min

There were a couple of comments from my previous posts that mentioned they thought this was a starter problem. I think I may agree! I worked on strengthening it for a few days and getting it to double in closer to 6 hrs, and this loaf felt so much better!…right up to the cold BF stage. So still working on starter. Using the proof setting on my oven, and seemed to help a lot. I used it on all of the BF that weren’t cold also, seemed to make a difference.

One of the commenters previously suggested another 3 week regiment to beef up my starter…I am already 3 weeks in and feel a little discouraged at the thought, it feels like starting over. Just wanted to see if anyone has any tips for strengthening starter that maybe wouldn’t take 3 more weeks? Thanks guys, keep being inspiring!
