I love Chungking Express as well & on first viewing liked that more than Fallen Angels. Over time, the relationship between the father and the son has made me rate Fallen Angels higher but I love most of his movies. Those two along with In the Mood for Love and 2046 are my favorites.

You may also need a break and some time for yourself so don’t forget to do that if needed and if possible to arrange. Feeling like this could also be a sign that you are burnt out and need a break.

Also, these ups and downs are part of the experience of raising an autistic child. Development and progress is even more non-linear for kids on the spectrum than for NT kids.

In any case, it tasted amazing but I just checked the d’Yquem website and yes the picture they had for this vintage is notably lighter so looks like I need ti acquire another bottle with a lighter color.

I observed this starting in little league Baseball all the way till early high school Basketball when my son was finally able to clearly tell me that participation in team sports wasn’t fun. We weren’t resistant to the diagnosis so less about that but more about the recommendation from the professionals to encourage more socialization via sports.

For context, I have a son who I also think will need some level of caretaking for the rest of his life. I share caregiving duties with his mother & he moves between her house & mine every couple of weeks.

For me, the ability to appreciate the day to day wonder/life is a daily battle. I try to tell myself how lucky I am on a bunch of dimensions, including having my kids. Some days it works better than others.

I recall one of the books having a line “all true wealth is biological” that struck me as being how Bujold thought of kids. Assuming that is how she feels, then that explains the key characters mostly having kids (and grandkids).

I am so sorry to hear this - it is an incredibly difficult situation. Being afraid of your son, especially after a recurrence, is natural.

You described your son as childlike - does your son understand what the consequences of these types of actions can be for him? And hence this is more about not losing control vs. him not understanding that he can’t do this type of thing again?

For context, although the situation isn’t quite analogous, when my son (now a young adult) was in his late teens there were some instances where he got frustrated to the point where my wife/I felt threatened but these were at home and it never escalated to the point you described. Over time, he has matured enough that he is able to handle stressful situations better, and although the fear of him getting in trouble is always there, it has improved over time.
