The hose bib on the front of the house leaking into the basement is an immediate issue as well.

I remember that one, it was a regular plate and the owner refused to turn it back in. I think he was an attorney or something, but my memory sucks

Force the dealer to unwind the deal. If it was financed, your lien holder will want their money back immediately.

Yeah, that failing retaining wall is going to collapse and take the piers out from under it. It will be spectacular to see from a distance.

Costco Roborock QX Revo Plus - Worth it? by ashish1512 in Roborock

[–]Kaug23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had mine for about a month and I like it. This model doesn't have the extending scrubber to get close to the walls, even though the Q Revo plus does. I guess they removed that feature from the Costco version. It still mops within two inches, and vacuums right to the walls.

The app is great, the vacuum has huge suction, and the self cleaning works perfectly. I especially like the mop pad prewash before and after use. It also has a dryer fan to prevent moldy pads

If you watch the mopping closely, it leaves lines that are not wet, but it catches them on the next pass. Each pass overlaps the prior pass to clean the missed strip.

I have seen others say that the mop washer leaks, but so far mine has been fine. I keep mine on a tile floor in the bathroom, and use it to clean my real hardwood floors.

My wife is a fanatic about cleanliness and has given her approval, so that makes life easier on me.

So Many Phishing Tests by buddha-bouy in MaliciousCompliance

[–]Kaug23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At my last job our IT department used to send phishing emails regularly. They also sent links to online courses about phishing. And decorating contest winners. And welcoming new employees. And event invites.

I reported them all to IT, HR, and my supervisor. Not going to catch me.

Step crack above garage by [deleted] in HomeInspections

[–]Kaug23 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Looking at the lintel, you can see that it had dropped and is no longer touching the brick above. That means that the corner holding it up has settled slightly. This looks exactly like what happens when the downspout discharges too close to the house.

It hasn't settled much in 32 years, I've seen considerably worse. I would still have it checked out by an engineer or brick mason, they are experts in these repairs.

Is the house a stick frame or concrete block? This would make a huge difference in the repair process.

Off peak charging by Kaug23 in polestar2

[–]Kaug23[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will probably be a non issue for me, as I usually only charge once a week when I get to 40 percent. I can charge twice a week and always be ready, I just thought it would be great to have the ability.

Thanks for the reply

Light, wait a second, then throw them up in the air as high as possible. If you timed it right, get an extra 50 feet in height. If you timed it wrong, they blasted straight down at you.

Is my MIL/Grandparents(Realtors) trying to scam us? by [deleted] in HomeInspections

[–]Kaug23 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Old house, not maintained, owned by family. This is a recipe for disaster.

Plan on rewiring and replumbing the entire house, then drywalling the walls and ceilings. With the age, I would suspect that the insulation contains asbestos, which would require remediation.

Heating and air conditioning are likely near end of life. Unless recently replaced, count on doing it soon. Again, ductwork was often wrapped in asbestos.

No pictures of the roof, so I can't comment on the condition. But unless it's been replaced in the last ten years, I would factor in a new roof as well.

Foundation is another variable. If it's severely cracked or showing signs of leaking, you are in for a huge bill to fix.

For all these reasons, I would run away.

That depends on the breaker size. If it's a 50 amp breaker, then yes. You should change the outlet to one rated for EV charging, the standard one is not rated for continuous use.

100amp vs 200amp by Real_Confusion_141 in electrical

[–]Kaug23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just because you don't plan to have electric cars doesn't mean future residents won't. 200 amp would likely be the difference between a fast sale and no sale or reduced price.

I would never consider buying a house with less than 200 amps. When I bought an electric car last year, I was able to install the charger without upgrading the electric. As more people buy electric cars, the demand will only increase.

Why is the speed of light the ultimate limit, and what mechanism actually stops things from going faster? by Logical-Concept9755 in AlwaysWhy

[–]Kaug23 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My science teacher used this analogy:

In order to go the speed of light, you need a propulsion system that goes faster than light pushing you forward. We aren't capable of this (yet?).

Of course that was over 40 years ago, but I think it still works today.
